I applaud Rockstar for making fun of the GTA rip-off games.

"True Grime" billboard next to the train station and a reference to Tanner (Driver series) in a mission from OG Loc.
 
"Tanner" was also in GTA 3. They made fun of Driver 1 and 2, with the fact that Tanner couldn't exit his car.

KM -- I, like Blake, became quite accurate with the D-Pad. Me especially with Driving, Blake especially with Shooting. I've always known you to stress "practice makes perfect", so now I'll say it. Practice makes perfect.

I have to try some driving in San Fierro. I haven't tried yet. I've been focusing on missions and customising.

I'm in the VC recordbook for street races and at times had a couple better then you--and I'm a D-padder--- I don't know how I did it, I just did it.

Headshots, with the M-4, in the Malibu are easier with the D-pad--you don't want to adjust your height- but want to fire at.....head level-- I didn't really think about it.

Maybe that is why I got hung up on 'Phenom Penh 86' the first time through the game--after you learn to use it, its hard to go back-- I always had the aim drift up or down when I'm changing targets with the stick--you wanted to stay on the same level--most of the time.

I only used the stick in the helis-- you can't fly the hunter without the D-pad (at all).

I am starting to get used to the stick for driving the bikes--- I've been finding some good stunt spots although I haven't had alot of spinning luck yet-- stilll figuring out how to drive a car properly with it.

I've seemed to be real natural with the Stick. It's weird, since I never had a N64. Must be practice with True Crimes (ugh), Midnight Club 2 and Mafia.
 
Man, I can't imagine using the dpad again...last time I used it for a whole game was gt1 on ps1 I think...
 
I'm good with both I guess. They make no difference to me. At all. It's weird. I thought I would take some time adjusting. It took a while with True Crimes (ugh). Mafia wasn't so hard. Midnight Club was the worst for me, since that was the first Analog Stick game I owned. But I got good at it.

GTA games come natural to me, it must, seeing that I play them so much. :lol:
 
I just recieved this game today, played for 2:14 hours so far and 7 game days have passed. I have over half of the stamina bar full and 1/3 of the muscle bar full with absolutely no fat. I think stamina is the most precious out of all of them seeing as I can now outrun the gangs trying to put caps in my a$$. Anyways, this game r0x0rz...period!

P.S. Im gonna post some screenies from my capture card later.

EDIT: Level 10 on that fitness-bike is way too easy.
 
How much is a Capture Card over there? If anyone could tell me a price in Australia, that would be handy too. I want one.

Also, I have the Muscle Bar full (like I said I would) and the Stamina bar just under half.

the game has locked up on me twice at random times so far. Has anyone else had these issues? I'm guessing its just that my laser is getting worn out and skipping but it's hard to be sure
 
It may be a problem with your PS2 version. I'll link you to a certain thread that contains you information soon, just gotta find it.

That's more like it. Never tried though. I'm sure it's doable, just a little tricky.
 
Yeah, it runs fine on my PStwo (so small).

eMad -- Couldn't find it, sorry man. If anyone else remembers the discussion about the PS2s in which San Andreas had problems with, please post where it was. Thanks.

You do use the D-pad for flying the Hunter?

The thing with aiming the guns is that when you tap left or right with a weapon like the rocket launcher or assault rifles, your vision swings too much to the left or right so I find it impossible to aim precisely. I like being able to adjust my aim by tiny amounts.

You get to learn to use it though. I don't think there's a best way to play GTA between D-Pad and Analog Stick to be honest. It really comes down to practice and comfortability.
 
As for my first impressions of the game.....

It's pretty cool so far. I like the car physics and the new style of graphics rendering on the vehicles is good. As for the whole D-pad/analog thing, it makes doing wheelies much harder - I find it difficult keeping the bike under control while holding back on the analog stick.

The language has certainly been raised a notch!

There was a queue in the shop when I was picking up the game this morning. In Ireland the game is certificate 18, but that's just a guideline, not legally binding. I swear I was the only person in the queue who was actually 18. Half the guys looked like they were 10-12 years old and some had come with their parents to buy the game. Some of those folks are in for a shock if they find out exactly what kind of game they've just bought for their 12 year old son. This is definitely not a game suitable for kids.

It's hard to post a proper impression of the game until I've had a whole bunch of experience. It's like Vice City, it wasn't until I'd gotten used to all the new features and truly knew my way around the game map that I felt at home in the game and started to really get into it.

But it's certainly a solid thumbs up so far.

I'm starting to feel at home a bit in Los Santos, except for the minor inconvenience that is the Ballas.

I don't think I could be bothered sitting here and typing out what new features I love, and what I love about them. I would forget so many things. The game boggles my mind in how much it's stood up to expectations. I've been on about this game since the first "San Andreas" rumour revolving around the name.

So just seeing how far it's come from there is astonishing. For once, Jimmy Enslashay is lost for words. And considering the amount of time I spend posting on here and trying to contribute to the GTA Forum, it's a rare thing. :)

I've got an old TV capture card in a drawer somewhere. I might reinstall it one of these days. Could be handy for uploading any interesting shots I save with the in-game camera. Better than snapping the TV with my digital camera anyway.

Exactly. Good for those Camera shots you can take, and to post them on the Images of San Andreas or GTP San Andreas Community threads. By the way, check the San Andreas Community out. It will be alot better this time around.

well the game is awesome. I unlocked the next Island. Which SUCKS! because once you do, your no longer welcome in Los Santos. Which means the whole 'gang terroritory' system goes away. I didn't know that would happen. Sorry for spoiling, but I thought i should warn some of you. I wanted to take over all of Los Santos before moving on, which isn't happening now. So do not do the "Green Sabre" mission until you've spent plenty of time in Los Santos and made a bunch of money!

WOW OMFG! I just took my first tour of the country, and all the small towns in Red County, Palomino creek. etc.
R* have done it!, the country is amazing!. I also noticed how cool the new freeway and wayfarer bikes are, the best to tour the country in, in my opinion.
I also noticed how out of place CJ looks when you get into the country, i tried to look for a clothes store so i could blend in more, thats a testament to R*'s graphics and reasearch teams i think. Also the Hicks look amazing!
I won't say anymore incase i spoil.
 
This just makes me want the game even more, but I must be strong...pc version...3rd quarter of 2005...sigh
 
One thing I've noticed is that drivers on the freeways are very fast and aggressive. Much more so than any of the drivers in Vice City or GTA III. I was shooting along on a Freeway (on the freeway :dopey: ) at max speed which must be at least 100 mph and there was a Linerunner type truck running alongside and he was almost keeping up with me.

The only vehicles in previous GTA games I'd seen that fast were cops and FBI when you had loads of stars and they were hunting you down.

Plus, I've had a look through the stats screens. SEVENTY unique jumps? I've found 2 so far. Oh dear. And only 2 tags apart from mission tags. One by accident and one because I thought "I bet there's a tag up there!".

Put a car on the freeway and watch them pile up its so funny (someone show a pic of that somewhere else)

get the tow truck and grap a car with it, then reverse the car over a freeway overpass (corner if you have to) intill it drops and watch the carnage :D

Sorry.....CJ took over me for a minute.

Please post in a spoiler thread or if it is something truly unique-- start a new thread.

I've found 5 jumps so far but can't get 1 of them to register-- that unique jumps found and unique jumps completed isn't working. They both say 4 but I have found a 5th and have gotten the slow-mo cut scene on it. I need to start writing these down-- the game still won't tell you if you've already done one again :banghead:-- is that too much to ask--- a little message after you repeat one-- "you've already done this one CJ"

I'm hung up on another mission and its the only one available right now....and one of the missions is the stupidest ones ever--if you don't have memorized which button is which on your controller--you better start (circle, triangle, square, X).... I never know which button I hit---who looks at there controller??? You will have to know this in your sleep...sorry can't tell you more without putting out a spoiler.

I do like the skip early parts of mission that you already failed option--- 👍
