Really fun racing. All the races were quite close except Riviera where I won quite comfortably.

Tied at 2 each going into Siverstone wet. We both had problems adjusting to the car in the wet (with no prior practice) & struggled at Maggots on the first lap, however I managed to spin the car going into Becketts & came out of it 6 seconds behind. Over the next 4 laps I pulled back to within a couple of seconds & then one second & when arvore made a brief off-track excursion I was able to push past for the win. :)

I've got to say, it's just really fun to drive a car with no preparation & just figure it out as you go. 👍

I've moved Manny to the bottom of the list due to his (worrying) lack of communication.

I'm challenging jjaisli - if & when the race with Mario has been decided.

And I would like to challenge the winner from KEMP vs BULLIE duel...:)

Well, I failed to be successful in my Challenge, jjaisli kept his ranking place (in fact he moves up one slot, past new_soul if I'm not mistaken).

We picked the 550 Maranello, and the chosen tracks were Silverstone, Mont Tremblant, Vallelunga, Riviera and Spa.

We did everything "by the rulebook" except that I set the grid to "Race Position (Reverse)". Those who have been playing in lobbies hosted by me know that I like this setting very much and, in this case, it sounded the most fair to me.

Here you guys have a short recap:

Race 1 - Silverstone - I won. Was marginally faster than Jeff and slowly pulling away until, in lap 4, Jeff was "visited" by his daughter so he slowed down. I offered to quit and restart, Jeff didn't accept so that was it. This was my best drive of the night.

Result: 1-0 to the challenger!

Race 2 - Mont Tremblant - Jeff won. By a considerable distance, he clearly feels at home at this track and I ... don't. Race had no real history, he started in front and ended in front, faultless driving or at least no serious mistakes. His best drive of the night.

Result: 1-1 !

Race 3 - Vallelunga - I won. This one was very, very close between us but in the end a few mistakes by Jeff cost him dearly. First race we really diced it out and exchanged positions, unlike what had happened at Silverstone (me leading flag to flag) or MT (Jeff leading flag to flag). We both did a few mistakes, but Jeff did a few more than me and that ultimately decided the race result.

Result: 2-1 for the challenger!!!

Race 4 - Riviera - Jeff won. In this race we behaved like drunken playboys smashing their Ferraris at Monte Carlo. All we missed was a couple of uptown girls (or even princesses) to keep us company. We changed position more than once, in the end it was a funny race but, as Jeff put it, if it was recorded he would delete the resulting file  Regardless, the race was again very, very close and the decision came only in the last lap, in the fast section we were side by side and one of us crashed. It was me :dopey: ;)

Result - 2-2 and on to the final race!

Race 5 - Spa -
Jeff won. Again, 5 laps of intense battling, always very close, never more than 1 second apart. I won't bother you guys with a 5 laps detailed account, but all I say is that lap 5 started with Jeff in front, I got him on the top of the big straight up, he got me again in the bus stop chicane and that was it. A great race, even with our fair share of equally distributed mistakes.
so ...

Final Result: JEFF WON 3-2!

Thanks Jeff, was great fun to do these races and a great opportunity to revisit the 550 Maranello, indeed a lot more fun to drive than the FC version of it (The PIG car, only danjama could drive it properly )

Mario and I finally had our titanic battle tonight. With certain rounds, it became more like Mad Max and less like racing. But it was fun and fair and all together, enjoyable.

We chose an old classic. The 1996 550 Maranello. A road car. It's not quite the understeering pig it was in Ferrari Challenge. It's been tweaked and improved. So it's more like, the understeering...wild boar. A big difference, to be sure. But I actually really like the car. It's what a big, heavy and powerful road car should feel like.

The tracks were chose were:

1. Silverstone.

2. Mont Tremblant

3. Vallelunga

4. Riviera

5. Spa

My brief recap is as follows:

1. Silverstone. We had both done a few rounds of practice on this track today. But in both cases with the 355 Challenge. We started with the 550, completely cold. No practice laps, no racing line, no assists, no one quick lap to check braking points. Neither of us had driven this car in many, many months. And we literally threw ourselves off the deep end. Ready, set, GO! Banzai!!! Silverstone has never been one of my favorite tracks and I thought Mario would have the edge. Things were pretty close until I made a series of small mistakes on lap 3 (pushing too hard) and Mario pulled out a lead of about 3 seconds. At this point, I kept seeing colored lights dancing on my ceiling and then noises and 30 seconds later, I realized it was my daughter watching from behind, walking around in her neon lit, dancing shoes. At this point, rather distracted, I drove off the road. Mario offered to restart but we were both tired and with his 3 second lead and a better 'feel' for this track, I couldn't see that I would have caught him. Round 1 to the Hun.

2. Mont Tremblant. Mario was making much better starts. I was getting excessive wheelspin and he was pulling nearly a 1 second lead on me by the first corner, 2 tracks in a row. But I managed to make it through this round with no mistake where as he seemed to have a few moments. Round 2 to team JJ.

3. Vallelunga. Where as in the first two rounds, we crossed the finish line like two ships in the night (two ships who weren't close to hitting each other), Vallelunga was very close with at least 3 lead changes and a finish that had us < .5 apart. But it was Mario who crossed the line first. The Hun takes 2.

4. Riviera. I wish I had recorded this race. It was right up there with the best kubica88 has to offer. Although, completely unintentional. Between hitting the walls, the armco and each other, I know Mario's car lacked both front and rear bumper and had many body panels out of place and I'm sure mine was in a similar state. I spun around completely at least once, collecting Mario in the process. And on lap 4, I was laughing so hard, I could hardly concentrate on driving. The sound of car smacking wall could be heard at least once every 20~30 seconds. But in the end, I somehow ended up across the line first, close though it was.

5. Spa. And so we entered the final round with two wins each. And it was now, all or nothing. Shootout at the OK corral. High noon. Two men enter, one man leaves. And it was 5 laps of very sloppy, very tasteless driving from both of us. It's tough jumping into a car that suffers from heavy understeer and seems to go slower the more you push it. And it was a hard fought battle. But in the end, a completely ugly and selfish overtaking move that only Juan Pablo Montoya (and his tasteless fans) could love, meant that I got by the Hun on the 2nd to last corner on the last lap and it was neck and neck down to La Source. But having the inside line was an advantage and like a tick that just won't let go, I stuck to the line and made it...ahh...stick. That made it 3 out of 5 to JJ, in a very hard fought fight that left us both hot, thirsty and sleepy.

I DID manage to get this one on video, embarrassing though it is. Doubtless, those who watch it, will be quick to challenge both of us as it makes us look like a couple of chumps and easy marks. Yeah, sure. YOU try driving this car with no practice.... ;)

Thanks for the challenge Mario. As always, we run each other very close and it could have gone either way.

Hi!

I also had my challenge with Kemp last night and it was something similar to the Germany vs Argentina, being mine the role of Argentina...

We choosed the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and the tracks selected were Silverstone, Infineon, Nurburgring, Paul Ricard and Mugello. 5 races, 5 wins for Kemp. Well done!

Not much history on the first race, Kemp did lead from first to last lap and won with a comfortable +-10 sec. advantage.

On the second race things were a little bit tighter and more enthusiastic, with me leading for the first 3 1/2 laps after a better start than Kemp. However, in the beginning of lap 4, a stupir mistake make me going wide and ended up on the gravel. Kemp won by 3 or seconds.

Third race was the best! Nurburgring! Lead changes were a constant throughout all the race and entering last turn I was first by about 0.3 seconds. However a missed downshift made my tail to slide and loose some time. Kemp did it perfectly step on the gas and we cross the finished line in first... by half-a-car (0.20 second difference)! Great fun!

With the result in 3-0 and a confirmed challenge win for Kemp, we decided to do nevertheless the remaining 2 tracks - Paul Ricard and Mugello.

Paul Ricard don't have much history. I really dislike this track and Kemp win well by a 4 second gap. Mugello had a exciting ending like Nurburgring but exclusively thanks to Kemp! He crashed in turn 1 on lap 1, I get a 12 second gap and in the end he managed to win by half a car difference! Well done!

Thanks for the racing yesterday Kemp, I had a good time!

We're doing the challenge tonight! You'll know who's your next opponent very soon!:sly:

Ok ,now I know!:sly:
Let's schedulle this during the week-I might give You 1 or 2 nights off depending on Spain National team result...:sly:

I love the way the Spa video is up on You Tube with George Bush.

Obviously, the Maranello is a particularly difficult car to drive & driving after a car like the 355 Challenge requires some ... err ... adjustments. Perhaps, there should be extra points for managing to turn-in a non-red lap. ;)

In a 2-man race, I'm not sure starting 2nd is much of a handicap - as long as you can stay in touch, there are always plenty of easy drafting opportunities (except, maybe Infineon).

But in the end, a completely ugly and selfish overtaking move that only Juan Pablo Montoya (and his tasteless fans) could love, meant that I got by the Hun on the 2nd to last corner on the last lap

Call me tasteless, but I would consider that a very nice pass Jeff! Mario went in a bit deep and you took a good line which allowed you maintain optimum speed straight through the gap. No contact, clean as a whistle!

Quite similar in essence to Mario's excellent pass on you through Eau Rouge.

Why thank you Derek! :sly: Although to be fair, there are a few things to consider.

- I was taking rather outrageous lines through Blanchaimont (although in fairness, so was Mario) and in doing so it allowed me to close in on him.

- I took more than a humble portion of the curb on turn in and could do it only because Mario chose to defend the inside.

- I put myself in a position where I cut across Mario's front, making a pass that meant he either had to brake or hit me.

And I will say, Mario's pass through Eau Rouge was impressive but it was aided by my own cowardice (I braked heavily before he did so). But it's VERY difficult to judge exactly where the limit is with that car. In the laps that followed, I used a LOT of track. Or, ahh, blacktop that kind of looked like track.

In fairness, the fact that this car suffers odd terminal understeer, both at low speed and at high speed, with curious levels of grip, somewhere in the middle, combined with the fact that neither of us had any practice with it before the race started, made taking fair and 'legal' lines through some corners a stab in the dark and I wouldn't normally indulge in these antics during our normal bi-weekly meets. BTW, if you think Spa was bad, you should have seen Riviera. They're still cleaning the place up. And both cars were nothing short of smoldering wrecks at the finish line.

I think that's called "passive-aggressive"! :sly:

Either way, it was entertaining to watch. ;)

For the challenge with Bullie , I choose Infineon & Paul Ricard cause I think most people don't like these tracks...sorry Bullie  The cars proposed were the F40, 330p4, 250 Testarossa, Koenigsegg and Mclaren F1. As your already know took the 250 and as a mark of respect to this old lady we decided to not drive it under the rain...:dopey::dopey:

For the Silverstone race I knew it was going to be good for me cause I just did a 50 laps practice session with the 355 just two hours before and due to this I could finish the race 1st without any pressure just concentrating on the car and not the track:p

Infineon. In 1st lap I was to fast in the 1st turn and lost control in the braking zone. Bullie passed me...:ouch: and at the moment I just didn't imagine how hard it was going to overtake on this track. I had at least one chance every lap to do it (always in the long straight), but everytime I tried an overtake, I was using the same braking some as usually and went wide... Damn draft...:banghead: In the last lap Bullie had pity of my situation and decided to help me going wide at turn 4:dopey: I won

Then Nurburgring and his crazy lags:ouch::ouch::ouch: But despite of it, it was the closest race we had:tup: with side by side racing, lot of overtakings and mistakes too:sly::sly: and the finish was fantastic! Photo-finish needed!:D I won

At Paul Ricard, I think we both just tried to keep the car on the track and not crash in each other in every turn (at least it was my impression!). Bullie did more mistakes than me and I passed the line first.

Then Mugello! wow I really impressed myself. I did a big mistake braking late and on the grass at turn 1 of 1st lap and 13 sec behind when back on track. For me the race was over and the last win for Bullie. So decided to just rejoin the finish line doing a clean race but I quickly saw that I was closing the gap by more than 2,5 sec a lap and then push hard was able to be behind Bullie's bumper 3 or 4 turn before the finish and managed to pass him in the last straight and the photo-finish was needed again and I was 1st by a nose again:crazy:

Thank you Bullie for these great races and some close battles!:sly:👍

I didn't raced a lot the 250 before this challenge, but after some practice I can say now that's a really enjoyable car to drive.O

I'm not sure: did I put you up a position due to your win kemp? It's a bit difficult to keep track with a bunch of races at the same time.

I think yes, as I won the 5 races ...:sly:

Me and fingers&thumbs had our challenge last night, i'll give a short summary as i'm writing this on PS3.
We used the 430 challenge on Mont Treblant, Monza, Muggello, Vallelunga & Silverstone GP.
Mont Treblant- Fingers won this easily by about 30 secs as i binned it every lap.
Monza- Fingers again but much closer this time i lead a few times but guess what......yes binned it from the lead on lap 4, Fingers had an off on the final lap and i finshed half a car length behind.
Muggello- Both of us had trips to the gravel several times, a theme for the evening it seemed, Fingers won again. 3-0 the challenge was over but with the pressure off i managed to win the final 2 rounds.
Overall very enjoyable racing, i just need to keep it on the track for more than 2 laps.
👍

Wow, I see last night was the night of all challenges, wasn't aware of this! Congrats kemp and fingers, better luck next time bullie and redgate! 👍

thanks to redgate for the races last night ,

as mentioned we chose the f430 challenge
i chose mont tremblant , monza (wet)
redgate chose mugello , vallelunga (wet), silverstone

i started of ok for the first few races and won the first 3 , the 4th and 5th races was a combination of redgate finding the zone more and me perhaps taking corners in a way i might not had done if the race depended on it .but i enjoyed the races.

nice one 👍

I think yes, as I won the 5 races ...

What I mean is: did I already advance you one place up the ladder (for winning your match as the challengee) or not? If I did not already do it, then I need to, which will put you one place higher than me.

We just finished our races with PhanTomI (FourwheelBrow).

He gave me 5 choices of cars which were 250 LM, Corvette, F365 Spider, 430 Challenge and DB9 (correct me if I didn't remember them right). From these I picked up Corvette, as I had heard that it is a pleasant car to drive. PhanTomI chose Spa, Riviera and Nurburgring as tracks, all on sunny weather. I chose Mugello and Mont Tremblant on a random weather (I actually thought that there is a option for random weather). We did a 3 lap warm-up on Vallelunga and then we started.

In all shortness I was able to keep up a bit better pace on 3 first races (Spa, Riviera and Nurb) and I was leading 3-0 after three races. After that we agreed to drive one wet race and then call it a quits. We drove Mugello on wet and I was able to take the victory in there too.

Thanks to PhanTomI, it was nice to race with you and it was a pleasure to drive the C6R (what a great car! Nice balance, good brakes and ohh, the sound!). So:

PhanTomI (challenger) 0 - 4 vompatti (challengee)

PS. Biggles, for future, what's the procedure in situations when one driver has 3 victories before 5 races are done. Is it ok to call it quits if both agree on it?

Yeah thanks for the races vompatti. I've been playing this game a while, but with the stabilisers on (racing line, assists, manual gears etc), so this was something of an education for me.

I'm not too dependent on the assists i think, and switching to a manual gearbox was fine - my big BIG problem is knowing when to apply the brakes! It will come with practice I feel. (I hope...)

Your report is completely accurate there, but it leaves out the detail of the huge margins you were able to run up on me! :P
If the rule is that we're supposed to do 5 races, then you can call this a 5 - 0 win.

Twas a fun set of races though. Having said that, I do hope that vompatti's standard is not representative of all down this end of the table, or else I fear I will be rooted to the bottom!

I think it's fine to call the race finished after 3 victories if both drivers don't wish to continue.

FourwheelBrow: don't worry Vompatti is known to be very fast. He shouldn't really be down there on the ladder, but I don't expect he'll be there for long...

So I can challenge anyone up to four places, but just to be certain, which is the way positions are counted?

This:
4 GTP_Hun
3 arvore
2 fingers&thumbs (spelling?)
1 bullie77
0 vompatti

or this:
4 arvore
3 fingers&thumbs (spelling?)
2 bullie77
1 vompatti

Me neither...I´m expecting to serve him my butt in a silver plate at some point(and I don't think I'll be the only one:sly: )

I think You have to move him one place up(we did our challenges, both, previous to his he won so he goes one position up...

@ vompatti: the way I see it you can challenge me.

@ Biggles: if you are not sure if you already edited the post moving kemp up or not, you can always ask a mod to check that for you, I think they can still access the "post history" and all previous versions of it.
