Just me $0.03 worth, Biggles. I would suggest you keep your own records on a spreadsheet and just cut and paste the info onto GTPlanet as it changes. Otherwise, with so many consecutive challenges taking place, it's very easy to lose track.

Maybe we should send a PM to Biggles when a challenge is accepted and send him the results after the races, so it could be easier for him to move us up & down the ladder.

Biggles, is it possible to number the ranks on the ladder (so we can remember easily our rank) and maybe create a list of who is challenging who...?

For information, Arvore challenged me and we planned to race it on thursday!:scared::sly:

MannyMoenjack;3880873]Well as long as I don't have to run it, count me in.

Now please don't tell people didn't warn YOU.

Did You thought this will be all joy and no work,Master Peter?:sly::)

As Alan posted, you can challenge 4 places up the ladder.

The problem is, I can't be monitoring the thread constantly, so I'm not sure posting challenges in advance is going to help things. I don't think you should send PMs. Better to post the results publicly on this thread & then I will edit the first page accordingly. I'm not sure a spreadsheet would make things any clearer.

ok ... I have some time now so I'll try to clear this up for Peter.

Meanwhile, noticed that Justin signed in (post #60, last of page 3) and he is not on the list, or is he?

did i move up the ladder ?

I thought I did move you up. The problem is, once I've done it, there's no record of it happening. :dunce:

It will start to become quite complicated to keep an independent record of each movement. I'm thinking we should scrap the idea of moving the challengee one spot up if he wins - it's fine in theory, but it creates too much confusion when there are a bunch of challenges taking place at the same time. As long as most participants race regularly, any racers not racing will find themselves moving down the ladder anyway.

Does that sound OK to everyone?

BTW: Has anyone communicated with new_soul recently?

I have to say, I do like the idea of driving a variety of cars with little or no practice. I tried the 550 Maranello after Mario & Jeff's event, & it's really quite impressive how heavy & powerful the FFB makes it feel. 👍 I also tried a bunch of other cars I have never driven - wow, there's a whole different world of SCC handlin once you get away from the race cars! :)

Ok, my study is complete, and I tried to be careful doing it. Here's my report:

Comparing this to your list, as posted in the OP, I detect two mistakes: you moved kemp up twice (this was your doubt), and also you forgot to move fingers&thumbs up one slot for his win against Redgate. Also, don't forget to check post #60 and add GTP_Justin to the list.

EDIT: Hey Biggles, keep the "move one up" rule, without it the 1st half of the table will freeze. And I know what I'm talking about, I already lost two positions (to you and kemp) because of it!

If the challengee doesn't gain a position upon winning, then non-competing participants will never move from their positions. Think about it; if I'm in 1st position, and I don't do a challenge for 2 months, it's impossible for anyone else to gain 1st position for that 2 months.

The challengee gaining a position upon winning is the only mechanism to ensure non-participating players are pushed down the leaderboard.

It's a big change, but if I was doing this thing, I would change it to a points system, with a simple won/lost statistic. This way each player can see at a glance if their details are reflected correctly. And this would take care of the problem of non-participating players sticking on a position.

The current system is good, but things get complicated if things are not kept track of, as there are already some problems showing up. Jeff suggested already to use a spreadsheet. This is a great idea. The way I would do it is paste a copy of the leaderboard for each challenge, with the new leaderboard reflecting the changes.

I think, in principle, the winner moving a place up makes sense in keeping the ladder more fluid. However, I see a problem in the timing of the challenges & particularly reporting & registering the results of the challenges.

EG. if 8 challenges 5 & 5 wins, 5 should move to 4 & 4 should move down to 5. If, at the same (approximate) time 4 is challenged by 6 & wins, he should move up to 3 & 3 should move down to 4. So should the previous 3 go to 4 or to 5? :dunce: It would depend on which event was completed first, or reported first, or registered first. As these events are run on their own schedule, & I can't always be on hand to immediately register the results, the rankings could get confusing with the "winning challengee moves up" method.

Do we actually need the winning challenge to move up a place? Admittedly, it allows the number one ranking to remain untouched, if he does not race, but I don't anticipate this happening in reality. Other than the first position, the other positions will remain fluid as challenges are made around & above other racers.

In any case, I would suggest that each event, when completed, is immediately recorded in this thread. With the previous rankings copied & pasted, the two racers marked in bold type, & the result recorded in bold type underneath. Any anecdotal information could be added after this.

Thank you for your patience! :)

any track any car, any time any place, anyone!

I'm thinking you should start by challenging Hendrik or Alan!

I actually also agree in keeping the rule of the challengee stepping up one position(and it would be unfair to eliminate it now) if he wins a issued challenge that will keep the leaderboard more dynamic and will motivate the leaders to race more and not comfortably holding their position waiting for someone to challenge them(not that I think this would actually happen but in theory it was possible).
That said I also sympathise with Biggles position(as he expected this to be kind of self -organized) overwhelmed by actualization's,but he already offered the solution IMO.
The defeated player would have to report the result of the challenge and copy paste a actualized leaderboard contemplating the position after the challenge result.

My solution would be two steps:

1) Each challenge has to be approved in advance, at which time you assign an ID to the challenge. This way, the leaderboard will have a strict updating order.
2) Create a new thread in the forum, strictly containing one post per challenge result (no chat etc.), with each post listing the ID plus the updated leaderboard. The beauty of this is that each leaderboard change is easily traceable, any mistake will be quickly noticed, and also it keeps everything in a nice, orderly manner.

Even if the suggested ID system is not used, I think a new thread should be created with each new post updating the template of the previous post (with new leaderboard etc.). It's a bit of a mess with all the action happening in this tread, with all the bits of chat in between challenges and results.

OK. Here's the definitive word:

1) As most people seem to favour the challengee winner moving up one place, we will keep that.

2) No Excel spreadsheets, venn diagrams, flow charts. No challenge IDs.

3) The idea is to keep this SIMPLE & SELF-ORGANIZING. I think, if you stop to reflect, you will realize that there's no way I, or anybody else, can be constantly monitoring this thread & updating the results with spreadsheets in a timely fashion - we're not talking about an event every 2 or 3 weeks, we are talking about constant (hopefully) events.

4) Challenges, & any commentary, will go in this thread, event results (ONLY!) will be posted, by the participants, in a separate SCC Racing League Results thread. The winner will post the result.

5) There will, inevitably, be some errors & confusion in posting: please bear in mind that we are doing this FOR FUN - an opportunity to race a variety of cars & tracks without spending hours practicing to be competitive. Each individual result is of little significance, as the loser can always regain positions later. That's why there is no points system. At the end of October, before GT5 comes out, we can have a grand finale race to decide final positions.

6) I will try & update the ladder in the first post in this thread on a regular basis, but the SCC Racing League Results thread, last post will be considered the up-to-date rankings. If there are questions or disputes , I will try & act as a referee.

Sample result posting (no numbered postions, so that it is strictly a cut-&-paste operation):

I think you guys don't need to thank me for the hard work I did yesterday trying to retrace all that happened to the ladder since its opening ... :sly: ... anyway I'd like to ask you (Peter) if challengers must post their challenges in this thread, or if that can be done privately, through PM, member page, etc. and only the result being posted

Thank you for your hard work Mario! :)

I think it would be a good idea to post challenges publicly in this thread, so that other people know what is going on, but you could also post privately the details.

hey biggles are you up for a challenge ? (only if your not too busy organising this thread)

I'm supposed to be challenging jjaisli, but he seems to be hiding out. :sly: When are you able to be online?

I think he has one pending with Jeff( Mosley vs Blatter):p:D

I guess the only available opponents for You right now are Hun and newsoul...

Why, is kemp having another challenge? I noticed Biggles challenge on Jeff, but didn't notice any new challenge on kemp.

Peter, I think you should demand the challenges to be issued in this thread, I think it is important that all know what's going on, at least what challenges are pending ...

Yes I've already been challenged by arvore some days ago :
And I would like to challenge the winner from KEMP vs BULLIE duel...:)
We're doing the challenge tonight! You'll know who's your next opponent very soon!:sly:
I know it wasn't very clear:crazy: but that was my positive answer for the challenge:rolleyes: We're racing it later tonight, results will follow:tup:

I already said that the challenges should be issued here.

Recap from last night challenge:

This was a late night show...Kemp is even more a night owl than me so we started after 1am and finished at 3 am:scared:

I gave Kemp 5 car choices:

Mclaren F1
Zonda F
Enzo
FXX
F40

He chose the last one!
My tracks were:
Nurburgring
VIR
Silverstone National(wet)-9 laps

Kemp chose:
M.T.
Misano

We did a brief adaptation to the car in a 5 lapper at Monza.

The races were all(except for Misano where I did a stupid mistake at lap 4 that kicked me back to a 4 second gap and Silverstone National where Kemp had trouble with the slippery F40 in the rain:) )very close with both of us finishing with best laps with less than a second gap between them!
I won Nurburgring and M.T but then had to face the typical blaugrana comeback and Kemp won VIR and Misano.:nervous:
So we had the Grand Finale at a very Slippery Silverstone National.
I'd like to say this could have gone either way since me and Kemp are very levelled drivers(since Shift) and I'm sure this challenge will be repeated several times and I expect Kemp to be luckier next time(...oh,wait not really:sly::p )!
Most of all I think we both had great fun(can't wait to see those footage) and drove a car we barely knew(must be the second or third time I drove it) without our Blind men cane-the breaking zones.👍
So thanks Biggles for implementing this refreshing competition that makes us drive cars that we probably wouldn't, giving this game a new online dimension,at least for me.👍:)

Hey arvore & kemp, we want details!

There You got them-I had to wait for my lunch break...and I type really slow:dunce:

Dunno why but I'm predicting a "tuga" challenge for this weekend:p:D, it's my itching big toe...but I already asked Paul the Oracle cephalopod some tips

P.S :Let's wait for Kemp recap I think he has some of the races(at least the ones he won;) on camera
