Who cares though? I don't desire to be good at a video game, I desire to have fun and be entertained. I work all day and the last thing I feel like doing when I get home is work towards some meaningless goal. I just want to race, win, get credits and have fun.

Then you would be happy with 4th place?

I really enjoy that these seasonal events have been unrestricted, it's allowed me to buy a couple cars I hadn't yet and I'm finding the Ford GT to be 700hp of fun!

I agree.

I think way to many people are taking this way to seriously, just kick back, relax and tune the car to whatever level you enjoy.

I agree.

If you want bragging right just say you mastered the event in a stock car.

This is not exactly the same as getting a bonified, hard-core, I-got-it-and-you-didn't trophy that some legitimately crave. <shrug> Not me but I can see the motivation. If I put a lot of effort mastering skills I crave a venue that can showcase them. It is what motivates all kinds of sports.

But then again for some this is 'just' a video game. For others it can be a true test of skill in ways that few other games can achieve.

Which in the grand scheme of things is a very small block of the player base and sorry to say but one that they won't miss.

Yes i agree, financially they won't. But conceptually they might lose direction and their reputation as a 'simulator' and simply become another 'game'.

I swear I saw a thread about the earlier seasonal events full of tears about the restrictions and the rolling, last place starts. cant please everyone.
me, I was happy to get millions of quick, dirty credits.

I thought how a game is played was up to each individual person, not how YOU think WE should play it...

Actually, a GAME is played according to the rules, or it is no longer the game. Chess where any piece can move any way is NOT chess. Pool with balls that are magnetized to the pockets is NOT pool. Horse racing where you can enter a jet fighter is no longer horse racing. And car racing where you can enter a Zonda against a Vitz is NOT racing.

To paraphrase someone else (sorry I forgot who), you DIDN'T buy 1000 cars. You DIDN'T buy the right to drive them all immediately.

YOU BOUGHT A GAME.

A game where the makers of the game set it up so that you progress through a series of challenges and races to get the rewards for playing the game. The cars. The cars aren't the game. The game is the game...

People who aren't exactly like you. That's who cares.

It's great that you have fun with it a certain way, but remember you have all of Aspec, all of practice mode and all of arcade mode plus online to do just that.

Please respect those who enjoy the game on a diferent level than you regardless of the fact you don't feel the same way they do.

Some people just love to take a car to the track and zip around, some people really want to win championships. Is one kind of person not right because the other doesn't enjoy the same thing?

For those not like me there is nothing stopping you from competing in the seasonal events unrestricted. You get your challenge and bragging rights.

And I've beaten A-spec as much as I can, practise mode is still great but it requires credits to buy cars and online gaming on GT is pretty "meh" in my opinion.

In response to the whiners about, a-wha, a-wha! just how HARD those first set were..! In truth, they were no harder than most of the License Tests and Special Events, and those remain.

Perhaps those should be gelded, too, as this thread seems to be, basically, don't make ANYTHING a challenge...

You up for that?

Please see my sig.

If you would like to go ahead and lay out the the challenges that are both very challenging and but doable for each seasonal race, I am fine with that.

What's stopping me from doing it that way is the very fact I don't think anyone reasonably has the time to come up with those settings.

Imagine you take a library of well catalogued books where I can find the adult sci fi mystery section and have a great chance of getting exactly the read I will enjoy.

Now take that library and randomize all the books... I still CAN read all the books I enjoy, but I think you will agree the epxerience is much ruined now.

That's why the argument "you still race how you want with no restrictions" doesn't work... sure I can... but it's not reasonable to expect I will be able to reproduce the experience I would have within reason.

Actually, chess is just the game. When you buy the board, you can do whatever you want with it. Pool is also just the game, if you buy the table, balls and cue, you can play it however you want.

Horse racing implies horse racing, so obviously you wouldn't put a jet. That's a stupid analogy.

People buy gt5 for different reasons. Some buy it to have a challenging race, some buy it to collect cars, others buy it just to take photos of cars. Some people even buy the game just to have a laugh and pit a veyron against a vitz.

The cars are the game. The challenges are the game. Take it less seriously.

If you want to have the challenge still, just don't tune your car, or impose your own BHP restrictions.

I don't care. I play the game the way I want too and let others enjoy it the way they see fit.

No offense to the casual players, but while a game needs to be supported by the casual crowd, a franchise has to be maintained by the core fanbase. GT is successful because it has stood for something, and I think part of it is the challenges and depth, which sets it apart from other "Arcade" titles.

The core fanbase is always going to be smaller than the general public in a game of this scope, but if the game is developed for the general public, we won't see improvements in physics and handling because most average joe won't tell the difference, seeing only a portion of people drives with SRF off all times, you may even say all those coding has gone to waste, but it is still import to improve upon that because if GT has to maintain what it stood for, it has to do what it has promised - people have already accepted PD's use of "real driving simulator" very liberally however I still maintain there should be an aspect of challenge, or obsession if you will, that differentiates GT as the more driving man focused sim.

If GT stopped doing that it will just be another driving game with a pretty poor "game" aspect, and frankly with many studios with more innovative gameplay ideas I don't see PD going down that route successfully.

I have no object people will less skill should enjoy the same content, but that's the problem of the leveling system, not the seasonal events, they should make life easier for the less devoted players in other ways, hand out more in A-spec etc.

But for the casual players, while everyone is welcomed on the ride, it should be remembered that the premise of GT is different than other titles, and hence expectations should differ as well, while we detest the needless delay of player's progress which has nothing to do with skill but just time invested, those challenges which is only winnable for the selected few should be preserved, because the staple of console simulations needs players like this.

If you want to have the challenge still, just don't tune your car, or impose your own BHP restrictions.

And please, pray tell, how do I know what the correct tuning and bhp limitations are to make the race completable but not impossible?

The problem with saying "you can just do this" is, have you considered how hard it is to do that?

Take any of the previous seasonal challenges, how long would it have taken you to figure out that restrictions were doable? On many of them I would have given up an hour or two in and insisted - that's not possible.

And there lies the problem with "just do it yourself" it's not reasonable to do so.

See my sig.

Lol, just don't tune your car...

Lol, just don't tune your car...

Lol you realize that makes some of the races completely unbeatable right? Pleaes go to the Focus challenge, don't tune your car and then beat it.

Lol that was such an easy solution! :D

That really is a lame argument. The answer is the car they assign to the event.

And that game maker removed restrictions. So it is being played exactly how they want it to be.

Except how they want it to be played removes the enjoyment factor.

I think people are getting upset about this because they want different things:

One half likes the seasonal events because they represent a tangible challenge not available in A-spec mode where they can concentrate on driving, and that is what they find enjoyable.

The other half (lets face it, way more than half) simply saw new events and thought "hey, fun...", THEN saw the prize credits and exp and thought they were automatically entitled to the rewards since they were accustomed to cheesing them out due to the A-spec system.

The rewards were high because the difficulty WAS high and that was completely justified and fair.

I'm not one to be defensive over others being able to claim i got first in so and so seasonal event, or that people are able to earn huge amounts of credits and experience by overpowering the event they couldn't win previously. What i am defensive about is PD removing the restrictions that made those events so enjoyable!

I don't care about the credits, or the experience , or the bragging rights. I just want some driving pleasure. Hopefully PD introduces some new seasonal events with restrictions as well as unrestricted.

The way you are talking you seem to be acting like some how your life has been cheated because the race is unrestricted.

If you want to make it challenging you can! Buy a Ford GT and put comfort tires on it and see if you can win. After the race starts take your stock car, stop and wait for 30 seconds to widen the gap and then take off trying to chase down the leader. Take the brake balance and drop it down so your stopping power is greatly decreased. Buy a racing trans and make the gears really long to make your acceleration slow. Just give yourself some random suspension settings. Try drifting the entire time.

GT is a game that is exactly what you make of it, you can make it as hard or as easy as you want. I want to make it easy but I could very easily make it much harder on myself.

you should be able to compete with a custom transmission, racing tires and maybe an upgrade to the air filter and exhaust. you act like it's soooo hard to figure out what's what. funny, I thought "hard" was what you wanted.

Lol, just don't tune your car...

And than? When the car is too slow and you're sure it's out of reach after 2 hours?
Install an air filter, but whcih one?
Maybe tyres? But what type could make it interesting? DSuddenly you upgrade too much, and the race is boring. Well thanks..

There's nothing that you know 'it should be possible with more practise', like we had in the Focus and RX7 challenge

Some people don't seem to understand what racing is, yet they bought the biggest racing game on PS3..

Real racing series ALSO have restrictions.. It's not like Schumacher can put a turbo on his Mercedes in F1...

So now you're complaining that it'd be too difficult?...

Wasn't that what you wanted? To be challenged? Go do them without tuning, if you can't beat it in an hour or two, then add a mod/tune. Repeat.

People just love complaining, even when there's nothing to actually complain about.

Hahahahaha, another gamer who thinks he's a racer.

What do you think they spend all year doing on F1 teams?.... They dont' just watch the races, they experiment with tuning, different parts, tweaking different aspects of the car.

This is a continual process, they never perfect it.

You claim to understand what racing is, yet you complain about the freedom given to "free tune", because it might cost you two hours to test out the car?

Also, this isn't racing. This is catching up. If it were a real race, you wouldn't be 40 seconds from the lead with only 5 laps to catchup. Not in the type of cars they give you to drive anyway.

PD only made these races because they can't make grid start races challenging enough.

I think you misunderstand. It's not about the difficulty of the race, he is complaining about the process of having to find out what tune you need to create to manually restrict yourself so that it is challenging. This can take hours and isn't fun and certainly not why we are playing the game.

This would be a legitimate complaint imo

Actually, go to a chess forum, and talk about how YOU like to play chess with all queens. Or talk on a pool forum about how you have the pockets two feet wide.

Then stand back and wear a flame retardant suit!

I personally don't give a toss one way or the other how YOU play the game. But when your whining gets the game designer to completely change the gameplay, so you don't flame them about it, now YOU are impacting me. A challenge is a challenge. GT5 isn't a box of crayons and a blank piece of paper. It was DESIGNED to be played by certain rules, a certain way. Play it any way you want to. But have the decency to not come to a forum for fans of the game, and demand that it be changed just because YOU find it too hard.

Or, at least, if you do, make your complaint across the board, and whine about how HARD the License Tests are, or how DIFFICULT the Special Events are, and how PD should change the game so you don't have to do anything at all. And we could all see you for the whiny children you m seem to be.

There is no simple answer to that though. Some people said the focus and the rx7 race was impossible. Except that wasn't the case for everyone. So how to you make it possible for everyone? Give everyone options.

I reckon theres more people who were after easy money and XP (Casuals) then people who wanted a challenge (Hardcore)

Sadly I fall under the 'casuals' and I've been play GT for 8 years. The seasonal events made me finally be able to afford a FGT.

Did you even read what I said? I said a difficult but attainable challenge...

Read my sig, it explains why havinng to waste hours to test every possible change to see when one is hard but possible is not enjoyable vs being given a limit to use that you know is possible but very hard.

So you are saying I should spend 2 or 3 hours with just the first level air filter and whne I deam it impossible, then move to 2nd level air filter and try that for 2 hours, then try jut manifold and first air filter for 2 hours... basically try potentially hundreds of hours of impossible races to come up with the setting that makes the race just barely beatable but still very hard?

Now toss in suspension and gearing tuning... the potential number of optinos is MASSIVE! I should try the thousands of possibilities to ensure that none of them make the race beatable before I move on?

Have you actually thought about what you said instead of just saying it like somehting so easy would get overlooked?

And what makes you think 2 hours is enough? Some of those events took me over 6 hours to get first... so how do I ever know it's impossible vs just really hard? I mean the first dozen time I did the Focus challenge I lost by over 20 seconds! That to me says impossible, must tune up... but no it's not... it's just VERY hard.

So your idea doesn't work plain and simple and that's if we ignore the ridiculous amount of frustrating impossible grinding it takes to reach those concolusions and the almost certainty that whatever I finally arrive at will probably actually be overtuned.

Go ahead, you do it for just ONE of the new races. I want you to set the limit that is so hard it takes me HOURS of practicing and playing with the tuning to finally win but isn't impossible. Have fun spending hours with each tuning setup to make sure it's really not beatable before moving up a step...

Oh and as for your commment about F1 teams above... I am pretty sure that's in large because it's a real job that pays a lot of money and can reasonably be something you spend almost all your time on... unlike this GAME which is something I paid for to provide me with preset fun challenges, not so I could bang my head against the wall over and over trying to weasle out what the real challenging setups are.

I think there is a bit of over reaction. Well maybe that was an understatement. Anyways, maybe there is rhyme to their reason, method to their madness.

Could just be that they make an easy one, an hard difficulty, and an extremely challenging set of events. Just cause they have released one where it is very easy to beat, everyone is running around screaming the sky is falling. Calm down people. Take a deep breath. And realize.

1 easy set of events out of 3 means nothing.

Who knows, we might not have another unrestricted set of challenges for awhile. Or maybe it could mean that PD is too busy to fully commit themselves to providing a challenge, perhaps they are working on more pertinent matters. OR possibly they don't care about giving us a challenge anymore. But either way, it is way, way too early to tell what road they are going down.

We need to have patience, or not over react.

Also not everyone who plays GT5 is amazingly good at it. I know I didn't gold all the seasonal events in 1 and 2, that doesn't mean I was mad, or figured they should be easier. I definitely did enjoy the challenge. I can imagine though, there were people extremely frustrated at the difficulty of the first two. Maybe they complained to PD somehow, and they decided to give them their wish. More than likely, as stated before, you can only make so many people happy, and props to PD for, at least possibly, showing they are trying to target everyone who plays GT5. Seems that the rate that this thread is growing I can envision the coming seasonal events to be more difficult. Which is fine by me.

If it turns out to be the opposite, then it will be unfortunate, but life will go on.
