I don't like them as much now that they're easy (I love a challenge), so I just made it hard on myself, tried to do each one with minimum mods. Check My video thread for a couple of them done without any mods or aids (besides ABS).

We have a winner folks! Instead of whining you made it challenging for yourself! I salute you mate. (seriously I mean it, this is one of the most intelligent posts I've seen in a long time)

Yeah - immediately followed by this:

If you want a challenge good for you, wear a blindfold or give the AI a 10 second head-start or don't mod the car! Wow, what a concept. Personally I want to blow the competition away and get my credit and XP. It's my freakin' game and I want to win, also I don't want to buy another duplicate car WITHOUT MODS!!! Like the old saying goes, never bring a knife to a gunfight, bring a Howitzer (OK, I added that last part). My 2 cents

Ruined! Ruined! I was having a very good time trying to improve myself. Now they are only rubbish. Too easy: mod alle the way up your car and win in 2 laps....

What's it matter to you strtgang? I agree with djKyoto, make it challenging for yourself. Really man, I don't play on line or take away anything from you nor is anyone else by using a fully modded car. It's my little world. If I had disc like I did for GT4 that let me race any car, with any tire in any event, I WOULD USE IT. Did you feel a disturbance in the force or something like that. Really man, get a grip and ask yourself does it matter? Life is too short to get upset about a GAME...........

But pd are not afraid of tough challenges I mean I can only silver the top and challenge races its tough love. They don't make it so I can tune up the sls a bit so I can get gold. I accept for now silver is my best effort
I don't cry about it or expect pd to dumb down. I want a challenge to aim at.

Pd schizophrenia in my opinion.

Agreed.

I mean I have got gold on all of the Special Events barring the AMG ones which are all a mix of the odd Gold and alot of Silvers.

I'm not bummed out by it at all I just need to spend some more time on them.

But the folks complaining about "well I just want the money for the cars I want to race against the AI the way I want"
Yes well this generally ends up with an overtuned car and you just turning laps alone.

Don't forget it is a racing game afterall you should actually have to earn that money by actually racing and those races should provide a challenge to win.

The Special Events and the previous Seasonal Events provided at least a set limit so it came down to your driving and tuning skills not how much money you threw at a car.

Of course we ALL know how easy it is to beat the AI in A-Spec at least the new events made us actually have to work a little to beat them for a change.

This will get old very quickly if the only race events that PD puts up are mission races that are last to first on tires with low grip chasing a rabbit that has a 12 second lead even if you finish second.

This. ^

Is it that freakin' hard to make a nice event where you have to race a car that is evenly matched with the AI (without modding the crap out of it), and you have to beat them in a straight up race? You know...like...racing?

Guys, seriously. Where did the seasonal events ruin the game?
Relax, and try to do the events without overpowerring your cars.
Just try it with the normal car, if it doesn't work install a few tuning parts and try it again.
It was fun in my opinion.

I'm quite mad. I finished the Focus challenge at gold without SRF and it took me quite a lot of time. I felt awesomeness inside when I finally finished first and that it was a great achievement.. But now, the replay and setups aren't worth anything anymore. There;'s no need to talk about the challenges since everyone will finish them easily with enormous heaps of turbos etc..
I want a challenge, and the Focus and RX7 were a challenge. Now I've no real challenges left, except when I create one.. Yuck. The real challenge for gold is gone.. And the new ones can be won with a stock car.. sigh.. I already finished all normal challenges in GT5, and A_spec is just getting boring.. What should I do now :(

Maybe - but I'm not duping and glitching to beat others online or be in the trading scene. I just want a big collection of cars to drive when i want to (arcade mode) and not grind to get them. When driving in the game I want it to be a challenge and most importantly - have motivation and a goal to beat.

Well since you asked, lets see. You are duping basically using an exploit to expand you garage instead of "challenging" yourself by playing GT life or playing online for levels and credits to buy cars. Oh wait you said you want to have a collection of cars to drive when you want to drive them BUT not grind i.e. play with out using the exploit to get the cars BUT yet you are here whining about a challenge and need motivation. As said before no one is forcing you to max your car. I mean if you are so pure about a racing challenge jump in stock see what your times are and "challenge" yourself to tune the car for a close race.

Having a few hundred extra cars in my garage doesn't help me shave the last few seconds off of my time in the GT-R race or hit consistent lap times in a 68hp Fiat. I don't see the driving side of the game and the collecting side of the game as being very connected to each other.

Yet you are exploiting to collect cars but then over tune your car for a race then complain about the challenge. :dunce:

If every A-spec race had real restrictions like the seasonal events did, I think a lot of us would have had much more enjoyment out of the game to begin with. A lot more frustration too... but a good frustration as opposed to being frustrated that the balance of the game was tilted way to the "flavor of the week" gamer who will be back to the latest shooter game next week.

No the minority would, this website is a minority of the GT sales, like I said before I have a strong feeling PD is able to see the data of players that are completing some of these seasonal events so they changed it up. You know made it ACCESSIBLE to EVERYONE. Even if the game is sold and played by the "flavor of the week" gamer its still a sale 💡

Stay in that small box thinking the majority of GT players want some hardcore frustrating experience with games. Some play it because they like cars and this game is pretty much auto pokemon car pr0n. I know players that are not hardcore players but liked the series because they could still win in an overpowered car, get credits so they can buy more super cars.

Good enough for you?

I drove 2 weeks for the first both events, for the 3rd event i drove 2 hours. I my opinion is the no restriciton a disadvantage.

I would like drive hard an acurate, and not with a overpowered car with 20 sec. lead.

I just did the second of week 3, with a stock Audi TTS:tdown:.. Now going to the next..

Hey we should all be happy....

Now we at least have a purpose for the prius :)

I hope you can add bigger batteries :)

From what I can tell, people want PD to make restrictions on their behalf!? And you want to be challenged....!? I'm just wondering if, you, who wants to be challenged, can't make that decision for yourself!?

When there's no limit on tyres, why put on racing tyres, go with a lower selection, you don't have to tune the car to the max either, but again that's your decision.... I don't think PD is cheating you for an challenge, you're cheating yourself if you make it easy! I guess it all comes down to your own view on what a challenge should be. Personally I think it's boring to win by 20 secs., so I don't go full out on tuning and such, I match or go below the opponents to challenge myself. I'm past wanting to win every time.

So they make it easier for some non-hardcore racers. Big deal! The challenges (events) are changing from time to time and this could for some be a relief from grinding the same track over and over again and cash in.

Officially ruined is not what comes in to my mind.... People who want a challenge, can still make it a so and for those who want some easy cash, it's now a possibilty for a periode of time.

But question is, are the seasonal events still officially ruined, if they change it back next time they update the events, with restrictions on?

I´m looking for the events number 4, i hope there will a little bit more difficult.

"officially ruined"?

If they are ruined, then they were ruined for you, by you. They're not ruined for me.

I shall continue to try and use a car that'll give me a good, close race.

100% true.

And works like this in the whole game. If you use a competitive car, you'll have a competitive race... Overtune it, and you'll have a boring race.

I've had lots of fun in some of the A-spec races. Just using a realistic car for the event.

Yes, i´m a little bit agree with you. But without restrictions you seduce to tune upe your car. Wit restriciton you dont´t have this problem.

So I should buy the Comfort Hard tyre on the TTS before even trying the event? Since I can't downtune it..

UPDATE - added a poll!

So these were the redeeming feature in GT5 that was renewing people's faith in PD. Actual challenging races where you had to pay attention to upgrades and tuning. I loved them, as did many others based on comments in these forums.

Now all tuning restrictions have been removed from the 2nd round of events and the 3rd have none to start with.

Why is PD so out of touch with the end users? Being challenged to drive fast and consistent, and fine tune settings was an eye opener to how much detail is in the game. After struggling all week at 14 seconds behind the leader in the GT-R event to winning tonight at 9:45 pm EST (15 minutes before the 1st events closed) with a gap of 0.446 to the Ford in second place by just tuning the car right was amazing!

Now all that can easily be overlooked - it is easier to make an 800hp car and annihilate the competition than to work at improving skill. How many people new to GT5 will do just that and then wonder what all the fuss is about?

Rant over - back to birthday glitching and duping, something the seasonal events were enough to tear me away from!
I can't believe how irrational some people are.

You like getting challenged, you like to improve step by step etc. Good for you. So do I.

But it should have crossed your mind that other people buy this game too and they might want to enjoy the game in an other way. Why do you think these other people should be kept from playing the way they want?

Nobody is forced to buy & tune their way to glory. Play the way you want and let other people decide what they want themselves. They only added an easy option for people who aren't very good. Who could possibly be against that?

The events are only ruined by people who don't wish to make them a challenge, and therefore ruin it for themselves due to lack of self-discipline. But if someone doesn't want a challenge on those events, who's to say they're wrong? But if you tuned the hell out of your car and then complained that it was too easy, well, that just makes you sound funny.

At first I was really surprised by the response to this thread but I guess that it goes to show that GT means different things to different people.

I can understand that some people just want new events to get more credits without having to redo other events.

I can understand that some people want to choose their own level of difficulty and create a fun race for themselves. I like to go back to a-spec races sometimes with different levels of car just to have a fun race.

But please understand that changing the level of difficulty yourself is a much much different thing than having someone set a bar for you and say: this is possible, now go find a way to do it. I want that kind of challenge in the game. That is the reason that I really liked the first two seasonal events and why I am really disappointed with the last one. I don't care if I'm not able to get gold without srf. Better yet, remove srf and I won't be unhappy that I can't get gold. I'm not that great a driver so I understand if I can't gold on every event.

Basically comes down to this - you cannot please everyone. That is what makes us individuals with our own personality and characteristics. Some like to race their cars stock others like to modify them. This doesn't make one bit of difference to me how they do it. I appreciate everyone that has an interest in Motorsports.

I think PD is working at generating more interest in the game and Motorsports in general by offering something special. I expect next month it will be something different again. We should be grateful they are providing these. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"

If you want realism go out and buy a real race car. This is a game! :)

But this is the same as turning off all assists, isn't it? As far as I know, the vast majority turns off all the assists because it's more real & fun.

Why would we think differently about upgrading cars? For starters, it even costs money while assists are free.

All they did is give extra options. Nothing changes for us (people who think these options aren't nescessary).

I don't see how you can think that this is remotely the same. Most aids besides the srf don't speed you up and none do to the extent that a full tune will. Not even close. With no restrictions, you have no idea where the bar should be set. Should you put sport hard tires on or will you need sport soft. Maybe the tires should be the same and you just need an air filter. Who knows. It then becomes trial and error to find a challenging race. Again that is much much different than someone setting the bar for you and challenging you to reach it. I understand that some people like the way the new event is. I don't get why some people don't understand why some of us are very disappointed with it.

Very well said. 👍

That really is it.

Maybe they should get a rating system like Forza and a difficulty setting like.....Forza

At times I think they have no real idea what people want.
People have no idea what people want. Reading through the forums you get people wanting this and people wanting that. It's impossible for PD to please everyone.

There were a load of complaints from users here that the 2nd lot of challenges were too hard. Now they've made them easier, there are still loads of complaints.

I agree with the OP.

This is nothing less than shame from perspective of challenge.
GT has always, to a certain extent, allowed you to overpower the opposition. They leave that up to you for the most part. If you want a challenge in which you can't out gun the opposition, then that's what the challenges and licenses are for.

You said it much better than I did! This is EXACTLY my problem with the lack of restrictions. I need motivation!
GT has never been a one sided playing experience. It's not all give give give from it. You need to put a bit of work in yourself in order to get the most out of it. You need to spend a bit of time getting to know which cars, with what mods, suit the championship you're racing in. I like the fact that I can look around and pick something that wee bit out of the ordinary. I don't want to be forced to drive that car with those mods. I want to drive this car stock, thankyouverymuch :p

I have to say I did prefer the events with the restrictions. Yes, it was a little more hassle and yes, some people screwed up and made cars that they couldn't use and had to buy another one in order to run the race.

However, you did have to drive properly in order to win these races, some were easier than others but even those with less skill seemed to enjoy trying to beat them.

Now it's a simple matter of apply racing soft tyres and a stage 3 turbo to breeze the competition, even just racing softs is probably enough.

They are now just quick money earners rather than fun money earners, imo.

I too was disappointed at first, but after racing for a day I don't mind the lack of restrictions. I see it now as a way of making money. If the extra cost of the tuning isn't worth the amount of Cr. I can win I don't do it. Races keep challenging that way for me.

Wow, if true Im kinda conflicted. On one hand it makes the seasonals more accessible but on the other it takes out some of the forced challenge. Howver it didnt break Aspec for me so Its all good. Some races I would over power(just to get through it) others I would under power because I love the cars. I think PD should just have scaled XP/Credits system. 100% within a certain % of the comp. Then increase / decrease the reward based on how much you over/underpower your car.

But please understand that changing the level of difficulty yourself is a much much different thing than having someone set a bar for you and say: this is possible, now go find a way to do it.
Thank you, this can't be stressed enough. I am actually surprised to see so many "you make the challenge all by yourself" posts in this thread. In my opinion, this is the rationalization of something which is deeply influenced by your mind and thus can not be rationalized.

For instance, let's say I take a mildly tuned car and win a race by a fraction of a second. I will of course be happy and proud of myself, but at the same time I will question my achievement and wonder whether the victory was down to my quality and consistency of driving, or whether I just made it too easy for myself. Maybe those tires were too soft, or I did have that bit more grunt on the straights.

So naturally, I will try to run the race again with reduced power or worse tires. But maybe it wasn't the car, maybe it really was my driving that won the race. The problem is that I just don't know. I can try to judge my driving, but doubts will always remain. And the reason for that is simple: I have no benchmark. I can not compare my achievement to anything, because there are no restrictions which tell me where on the quality scale I currently am.

This is why I say that it is the duty of the game designer to create the challenge. My part is only to beat it. Shouldn't I be able to, maybe the game is too hard for me, or I didn't practice enough. Is it too easy, maybe the game was designed to be easy. Leaving this completely open to the player however is a mistake in my opinion. People just don't work like that. Giving choices sounds great, but it puts the load on those who should be busy with having fun playing, and not trying to find the right balance in difficulty.
