Soo...this is bad how? There is still GT Academy, playing online and many other options if you need a self fulfilling challenge. Or does it take away that many others out there will have money and cars?

It's bad becasue that's what games are, a challenge. What is the point of them if there is no challenge. A challenge you set yourself is never as much fun to beat as a challenge someone else sets you. I'd be more than happy if PD told you the restrictions they expected you to use but it was your decision what to use and the reward scaled to how close to those restrictions you came. I'm not wanting to tell people how to play the game. I just feel, in this instance, that my game experience has been lessened by the removal of all restrictions. And as I keep saying, where is the shame in coming 2nd or 3rd if the challenge is difficult enough? Why must everyone have to be able to come 1st, lifes not like that?

What I want out of it is to say, 'PD set me that target and I achieved it.' The credits XP don't matter to me, it's the challenge laid down be somebody else being removed that I miss.

While with for example the Focus challenge I had to restart at least 40 times to get gold without SRF. That was one hell of a challenge. There's no challenge in this, at least not a challenge I like to see.
In fps's there are levels and difficulties I cannot achieve. So why should GT5 achievable for everyone? WHY?! Why can't some people be satisfied with having silver or bronze, while a lot of people play fps games can be happy not being able to achieve the hardcore extreme level?!

Your FPS comparison is not a good one, the best thing this game could have done is taken the rating and difficulty system from FM but it didn't.

I'm in it, to win it son. If you want to challenge yourself then don't adjust any settings on your stock car and slap on some comfort hard tires. Make it really hard and turn off all assists (abs, racing line, tcs.. everything). Start the race by giving them a 10 - 30 second head start. For rolling start races, come to a complete stop, wait 30 seconds, then start. "zomg, the race is impossible then!!" STOP COMPLAINING and play the game the way you like

why does everyone care about whether or not other people won the bonus race or not, if your so against being overpowered and needing skill to beat it, then set your cars up to run that way. Why do you care so much that other people are winning credits and xp????? its not like it has any bragging rights by winning it! I really enjoyed the GT-R challenge from the first series of seasonal events. It took me about 20 attempts, but I finally got gold. When I did it was a great feeling. However, I also would like to get some easy credits once in a while. I hate the idea of repeating races just to earn money or credits. I only want to race if its fun.

What I'd like to see is some mixture of difficult and easy. I like that they have a set now that will be easy credits and XP. I do hope that they also have some difficult, but achievable challenges like the GT-R one in the future.

UPDATE - added a poll!

So these were the redeeming feature in GT5 that was renewing people's faith in PD. Actual challenging races where you had to pay attention to upgrades and tuning. I loved them, as did many others based on comments in these forums.

Now all tuning restrictions have been removed from the 2nd round of events and the 3rd have none to start with.

Why is PD so out of touch with the end users? Being challenged to drive fast and consistent, and fine tune settings was an eye opener to how much detail is in the game. After struggling all week at 14 seconds behind the leader in the GT-R event to winning tonight at 9:45 pm EST (15 minutes before the 1st events closed) with a gap of 0.446 to the Ford in second place by just tuning the car right was amazing!

Now all that can easily be overlooked - it is easier to make an 800hp car and annihilate the competition than to work at improving skill. How many people new to GT5 will do just that and then wonder what all the fuss is about?

Rant over - back to birthday glitching and duping, something the seasonal events were enough to tear me away from!

I'm sorry to say this, but this feels a little bit pathetic...
It also seems soooo popular these days with some groups off people to rant in a new thread, and hope they'll get alot of "thumbs up" from others...

Simple, I can put call of duty on easy and see the exact same content in probably the same time as the guy who played on Veteran, trophies and achievements are outside of game content. Grinding in GT5 either locks out or unnecessarily complicates getting to certain content in GT5. Its a racing game right, why restrict me from driving cars I actually want to drive So like I asked earlier does it just bother some of you that other "casual" players will have money without also being hard core racers?

Also I have been there with retry after retry, do not have time for that anymore and I do not find it rewarding.

The events in the first batch were goldable without SRF by most dedicated people by putting some efforts in tuning.

Those in the second one, without SRF were mostly pretty much impossible for the majority of people (especially the Focus ST and the RX7 ones) without a good setup and very good driving skills. They have been probably thought with SRF in mind.

Those in the latest batch have removed all restrictions so that, like in special olympics, everybody wins, SRF or not.

I think the perfect balance would have been a batch of events of difficulty between the first and the second batches, leaning a bit more on the latter.
I also think that SRF use should be discouraged in some way, although this should not be forced on people (I would prefer SRF to completely disappear from the game, though, to be honest).

Ok, If they want to remove the restrictions then that's fine I can live with it IF they put a "recommended bhp and weight limit" that is purely optional. It would basically be the restriction if it was being enforced but at least I'd know for sure that I'm playing at a level that is challenging, but it actually winnable in that spec.

At it is at the moment I have to hope that running stock might actually allow me to win the race. Of course I could simply be trying to win in a configuration that is impossible.

because casual gamers make up 90% of the customers who are going to buy the product. Make it too hard to please a few hard core gamers and guess what, your sales slump and your series comes to an end.

You know the solution hit me and I'm surprised to not have seen it mentioned specifically here.

Hopefully PD will look at their data and find that the 3rd set were solved a bit too quickly and realize there needs to be further modification.

Based on the end dates of the events it now looks like we will get a new event each week with it lasting 2 weeks. So if I were on the phone to PD my suggestion would be to put restrictions in place for week 1. Then when the next weeks challenges are posted take those restrictions off. If you want a nod to the hardcore players then reduce the payout by 20% or something so you get more benefit from solving the restricted version but for those who had trouble with them they are able to challenge them in the 2nd week.

I personally think these events are likely to undergo further modifications whenever the next update is released. As someone else said I would expect that PD are tracking number of attempts, where people achieve, seeing how people are progressing on the game etc to learn the best way to balance the challenge for all users not just the hardcore who inhabit this board.

Except player 1 was happy with the challenge. It was all the wall bangers who complained so it got dumbed down enough for even them to win.

Its the crashers and adhd kids who got everything nurfed for everyone else.

The sad thing I'd that most wall bangers don't even realise they are one themselves.

Exactly, I think they are a little upset because more players will have money and cars. They almost had a heart attack when their beloved X2010 was not exclusive because of duping. I am starting to think their life revolves around GT5 and it defines them.
