UPDATE - added a poll!

So these were the redeeming feature in GT5 that was renewing people's faith in PD. Actual challenging races where you had to pay attention to upgrades and tuning. I loved them, as did many others based on comments in these forums.

Now all tuning restrictions have been removed from the 2nd round of events and the 3rd have none to start with.

Why is PD so out of touch with the end users? Being challenged to drive fast and consistent, and fine tune settings was an eye opener to how much detail is in the game. After struggling all week at 14 seconds behind the leader in the GT-R event to winning tonight at 9:45 pm EST (15 minutes before the 1st events closed) with a gap of 0.446 to the Ford in second place by just tuning the car right was amazing!

Now all that can easily be overlooked - it is easier to make an 800hp car and annihilate the competition than to work at improving skill. How many people new to GT5 will do just that and then wonder what all the fuss is about?

Rant over - back to birthday glitching and duping, something the seasonal events were enough to tear me away from!

Did it occur to you that PD maybe wants to make some events more accessible for non hardcore players? Just accept the fact that not all events can and will be the same. Some will be challenging, some will not.

Btw, if you were duping and glitching at first. That's pathetic and not so hardcore after all:tdown:

And, I suppose, just because YOU haven't done that, no-one has?

I'm sure plenty of people have done it, but certainly not the majority of us, so please don't group us all together. That's profiling after all, and profiling is wrong. :sly:

If you like unrestricted, it simply means you are probably winning by overmuscling your way to the podium. Now, be honest... did you enjoy any of the License Tests and Special Events, or do you also hate THEM for not being able to set them up so winning is a breeze?

I'll admit to always hating the license tests. In previous GT's it meant that huge chunks of the were closed off to me (until a friend came over and opened them up for me). If I can't play the entire game then why should I, or any of the other casual gamers buy it. Remember, we make up the bulk of sales. Without us you get no sequels.

IMO, if you overmuscle a car to the podium, you ARE a glitch exploiter, because the game is too DUMB to recognize you have gone past the HP and weight limits of the 'Typical Opponents'. You probably don't see it as that way, though... If the game allows it, no matter HOW retarded, it MUST be OK, right?

So only you and your 10 best friends should be allowed to fully enjoy the game? Ok, let's see how Sony likes those sales figures. No, it's not exploiting a glitch, it's called playing the game the way I like to play it. Why should I have to play by your rules? Why should I only be allowed a handful of features, so you can feel better about yourself? HA, I don't think so.

So what if I win using a different method then you. So what if I play differently then you. You play your way and I'll play mine, but don't try to force your way on me.

So tell me about those License Tests and Special Events again... You done them, yet? It must grind your gears to have to play them the way the game makers INTENDED!

I've passed all the way up to last IA test. My problem in that one is they AI, not the car or the track. I get about half way when some AI drive cuts down and hits me which DQ's me from the race. I've done about half the challenges, but I'm not going to spend hours getting frustrated with them.

Hey, I'll admit it, I'm a casual gamer. I have a wife and kids, which means I don't have the time to do a challenge 600 times over just so some Uber-gamer like yourself can feel better.

It must grind YOUR gears that people like me can actually get enjoyment out this game.

nothing has changed; seasonal events have never been hard, not a single one. And the GT-R SS5 event was one of the easiest to be honest (excluding events #3 as I havent driven them yet).

Than you must've played with SRF on, as the Focus challenge is was certainly 'hard' without SRF, just like the RX-7.. Just feww people managed to gold the Focus without SRF.

I don't know, the ones with the restrictions really weren't that hard either. If you want a challenge, go to any A-Spec race and pick a car, then tune it as needed so that said car is hard to win with. You can do this with any A-Spec race really...

Besides, I thought the idea behind these Seasonal Events was to help people level up and earn cash because too many people are stuck "grinding". This is easy cash and XP. That's what we asked for.

I think the best way is to at least put a difficulty on it and if PD is doing this to help those casual players, well its not working!

There's not even a reason for them casuals to improve their driving..:ouch:

You guys are crazy. It's just a game you know, and I can play it butt naked with a hooker and a monkey drinking gin in the dark. Wanna know why? because I bought it! I could put the disc in the microwave or put it in the toaster who cares. I think its great that they add new things to keep everyone interested. That's all. Have a good new year everyone!!

I got no problem with that. But an easy game which is not challenging will disappear on fleabay soon.

Maybe that'd be better..:indiff:

 Exactly, it's a game, play it how you want to play it. If people like Destinkeys want to make it personally challenging for themselves that's fine with me. If people want to play like I do, that's fine with me too. How you play is up to you, just don't try to force others to play your way, and only your way, that's all I'm saying.

All games get sold or traded if they are easy, hard, elite, special, loved it doesnt matter. Used copy of GT5 was in one of the gamestops not to far from the house for $54.99 gasp.

Now when I've done the new events I have to say I like the new system, just because it gives more freedom. In the the set #2 I usually bought a flywheel, a clutch, a fixed sports suspension kit, often a transmission and for the Mazda aerodynamics too. The cars were transfromed quite a bit from what they were stock. Now I could get just a set of sports softs for the first four races, having a good time with the cars handling like they were made to handle in the first place but with some extra grip, and even getting away with less money spent in the end. Absolutely no need for the SRF anymore either.

It's indeed all about how you want to do it. I very likely could have done them with stock tyres too but in real life I'd definitely upgrade the tyres for a serious trackday so why not do the same in the game too.

I really did enjoy the harder Seasonal Events. I felt like a better "driver" when I was done with them.

I don't mind a few easy events for big money. I could use the cash to get some cool cars.

That said, I hope they bring back the restrictions on Season 4.

..

GT buyer #1 wants a challenge
GT buyer #2 wants to race to make money and collect cars. Maybe even dupe some cars.
GT buyer #3 wants to buy a car and ram it straight into a wall for 8 hrs a day

All 3 paid money for the game. None of them are stealing or cheating. All 3 can make the game as difficult or as easy as they like by using the correct car. Yet Buyer #1 is the one that is always crying. Buyer #1 that complains is what you would call the president of the home owners association here in so cal. They want everybody to live by thier rules. You may even say they should run for a government position. They want to CONTROL.

Set the car to lower hp than the Other cars in the event an you have a challenge. Set it higher and it is easier. Both are happy. But buyer #1 isn't happy because how dare buyer #2 get things easy!!! That can't be!!! Well because maybe buyer #2 didn't buy the game for the same reasons as you. And buyer #3 is still happy smashing into walls.

Moral of the story, stop trying to control others actions when they don't hurt you. We have enough of that from our government in america. Don't need it from a fricken game.

What I feel a lot of people are missing is that part of a "game" is some structure and some goals to compete.

I am all about doing it how you want - rewind? Sure don't use it if you don't want to. Unlock all cars in arcade right off the bat? Why not...

But the structured progress is part of any good game, a lot of which was missing from GT as the Aspec races were pretty poor...

So taking that structure out isn't just a case of "do it how you want" it's a case of taking away the game.

I do agree that PD could do a week of the event restricted then a week unrestricted. Then everybody wins. I personally like the challenge and will try it until I'm about to chuck my wheel at the TV, then at that point if I can't get it will I just go for the easy money.

That's just it. Because of all the complaining about the difficulty, now restrictions have been removed and I can't play it how I want to. Now if PD put in optional restrictions then I could play it how I want to and you could play it how you want to. Isn't that better than only you getting to play how you want?

Look on the bright side, at least this time we should not get lots of threads asking how to win these races, or how to setup the cars. Stock + Racing hards = easy win. Want a challenge ? Then use weaker tyres. Simples.

I would be perfectly fine with optional restrictions.

You know what, I bet most complaining about this being too easy plays with a wheel. A wheel can make a huge difference. I play with my custom G27 cockpit and my controller. The driving experience is great with the wheel but I am not trying to me the next F1 or NASCAR sensation. I play with what works best for what ever race I am in. Stop hating on other less accomplished drivers because they can now get the same thing that you can get.

Oh yeah, and I like the post about when GT5 installs, it ask what level are you. Right then and there GT5 can set your level for you. It should make you delete you game file and start over if you want a easier setting. If you want harder it should let you change it but once you do, you can't go back.

run comfort hard tryes for a challenge on the Lotus race, no other mods.

Also the races are unrestricted by PD, doesn't means you can't say use a stock Lotus or Prius etc

I would be perfectly fine with optional restrictions.

Optional restrictions in itself is sort of makes no sense. If its a restriction how is it optional :nervous: sort of like the option to restrict your car by not adding upgrades to it. Crazy ain't it.

That was just the great thing that came out of it. Discussing about the game, discussing about the setups and the cars.. That was just fantastic..

Agreed...

I mean, I have no problem with just being able to buy upgrades and power my way through the races, but when they were offering like 1 million and credits in 100k in experience, it was a lot better to feel like they were earned.

I hadn't even gotten gold on all of the Week 1 and 2 events, but have Bonus Race No. 3 done in like 45 minutes.

I dislike how there is no restriction anymore. Like, they even removed in part 2.

Hopefully it comes back in the future. In the meanwhile, I'll just enjoy free money and xp.

I think they should've just included an option to turn restrictions on or off

Haven't seen seasonal event 3 yet (working on getting the x2010 around nurburgring..), but I found the previous entry requirements too restricting.

It'd be better if the restrictions were only tires / weight / HP OR a specific car, but not both.

Can't comment on previous GTs, I haven't played them at all.

You could put something under options for tire restrictions or hp restrictions, or both. Then you could have the hard-core gamers who could make themselves happy by bragging about beating the game with "full restrictions", while at the same time the regular gamers could still enjoy all the prize cars and whatever else the game has to offer.

You know what, I bet most complaining about this being too easy plays with a wheel.
They are really easy with a controller. In fact you could have one arm around your girlfriend, smoke something, have a gin & tonic in the other hand... and still struggle to come 2nd.

That is a good point. 👍

I just hope that having these 'open-ended' events are just part of a mix that we will be getting going forwards and why, in this instance, I am not screaming from the rooftops.

I don't see how you can think that this is remotely the same. Most aids besides the srf don't speed you up and none do to the extent that a full tune will. Not even close. With no restrictions, you have no idea where the bar should be set. Should you put sport hard tires on or will you need sport soft. Maybe the tires should be the same and you just need an air filter. Who knows. It then becomes trial and error to find a challenging race. Again that is much much different than someone setting the bar for you and challenging you to reach it. I understand that some people like the way the new event is. I don't get why some people don't understand why some of us are very disappointed with it.
No I don't understand why people are disappointed because we can just continue as we did before. The bar (as it used to be) is racing without adding parts, with the standard tires. That's still equally possible as before.

You got the number for the girl with the gin drinking monkey? LOL

It makes perfect sense. I want the restrictions to create a challenge. Restrictions tell me that a really good driver can accomplish gold with those settings. It gives me a goal but just as importantly, tells me that the goal is obtainable. That is completely absent if there are no restrictions. I can then strive to accomplish that goal by tuning my car (within the limits) and working on my driving without worrying whether or not my goal is even possible.
