Why do pepole do this? Why not just focus on breaking, while shifting only with Clutch?
Does it give anything?
Do you have faster breaking / shifts? Or does pepole do it just for the fun of it?
seen this a few times watching replays, this is not the normal blip on down shift but the throttle pedal is mashed to the floor while still braking.

heard this is a software glitch with some wheels with a H pattern shifter that allows increased braking above normal, what they do is bang it into 1st gear from top whilst say doing 140 mph with full throttle and the car stops nearly twice as quick.

if this happened in real life the valves would be spat out of the exhaust :)

T-56 swap? What made you do that?

Edit: Oh, someone said that downshifting doesn't actually help your braking distance. In real life/theory, etc, no it shouldn't. But it definitely does in the game, and pretty much any other game I've played. Can't offer any explanation why. And yes, H-gate+clutch users can "cheat" and bypass the rev limiter by downshifting as much as they want, which does indeed cut down braking distance.

Are there different techniques to downshifts?
For example, when I play rFactor I double clutch.
Which is Brake, Clutch, still braking, put in neutral, rev, clutch, still braking, put into lower gear.

Are there different ways of doing this?

My Dad (who has completed a couple Skip Barber courses) says that I need to be double clutching as opposed to just holding down the clutch. What's the difference?
I can do it pretty well, but don't know why I'm doing it lol.

In a game there is no difference. Double clutching is for transmissions with straight cut gears which track cars and big trucks use. It allows the driver to properly mesh gears by getting both the next gear moving at a similar speed as the gear connected to the output shaft of the transmission so they when the clutch is let out and the next gear is engaged everything is moving at the same speed inside the transmission and teeth on the gears can make smooth contact. For transmissions with syncros such as the t-56 you mentioned and pretty much all street cars double clutching helps to save wear on the synchronizers by doing most of their jobs for them. It also can help shift worn out transmissions that have worn teeth or syncros:)

Edit: @Eric I had the same thought when I read that too sounds like a lot of extra work.

A friend of mine had it in his car.Had the 1st 4 gears changed for street/strip and last 2 set for highway use.Somebody ran a red light, destroyed his car.I got the tranny for $200 and it was 6 months old.Cost me another $50 to shorten my driveshaft since the T-56 is slightly longer than my world class T-5 i had in it.

It sucks that we cant turn off autoblip :( even with clutch. There is no danger of shift lock in gt5 :(

1:50 in.. the Downshift, in A normal car is A good way to ruin A clutch quickly, but he has the right idea!

downshifting WITHOUT rev matching like that is a good way to ruin a clutch in a normal car
