Should I be entering a Jaguar against Minis?

The game has events with "suggested PP" and events with a "limit PP".
In suggested events, you can enter with every car you like, unless there are other restrictions in place, like region, weight, power, and so on.
There are also events with "BoP" which prevents any tuning and means, you have to use the race car with a setup provided by the game.

Yep, on these "Suggested PP" races you can choose whatever car you want, pretty much. Of course, when ~98% of the races in the game are "chase the leader" you are pretty much forced to pick a car that has much more power or far better handling than the AI. So use a McLaren if you like. The game doesn't care. Polyphony doesn't care. Making the game a challenge isn't really in it's DNA.

You'll find that a majority of the races in GT7's cafe career as you play do not restrict which car you use. Many of them simply have a suggested PP in the green bubble when you view the event prior to entering. This is just a mere suggestion based upon the cars the AI use. If you prefer to use the Jaguar, then by all means go ahead. The game simply doesn't restrict you.

My first Gran Turismo was GT4. Back in the days, one of my favorite cars for all these non-limited races was the Nissan R390 GT1 race car, simply because it destroyed the competition. So ... :D ... yes, why not use a Jag vs. Minis.

On a side note : Do you think you're capable of winning these races with an adequate car ?

I know what you're thinking of ... ;)

However, isn't this the way we learn and get better ?
Of course it is, but having this kind of information in advance - before hitting the wall - maybe makes it more of a learning experience instead of grinding gears about how to win at all ;)

I'm just thinking that all races irl would have some sort of classification, so bit suprised that GT didn't follow that. Anyhoo. I never noticed the recommended classifications so I'll now follow those. 😁

Just at the Silvia Sisters recommendation, be glad you can go above because the opponents are just too fast (at least at hard difficulty).

That is the entry screen of an event with suggested PP - but coming with 3 other limitations of which I fulfill only 1, so I cant enter with the current car. There may also be info about required tyre type, or mandatory pit stops.

You can see these info in the garage, by visiting the dealers, used cars and legendary cars

It's the Sunday Cup. So it is literally a turn up and race in what you want kind of event.

It's true what you said in your comment.

However, despite the creator of the GT series himself having participated in various forms of touring car racing through out his life, of which gives him at the very least an elementary understanding on the evident structure or order that governs certain disciplines of road racing, instead suppose the lax guidelines in GT make the games (especially the older ones) appear to come off as very ignorant of those structures to even a fledgling motorsport fan.

Personally I am undergoing a project with the aim of proving (more to myself than anything) that given the games resources are used adequately enough with the TLC GT7 desperately needs, the GT franchise with all it's past and current features, qualities and physic systems can actually be one of the best racing game platforms for teaching new and veteran players about said motorsport structures/classifications.

The race highlighted in the OP in particular seems just one out of many junk food races in GT7 that is needed for the casual player and is as much an obstacle for 100% ers' as it is a tutoring race for beginners. Hence, some may feel GT games should always have races like these. Which I would stand to agree to some extent as well.
Unfortunately because of the lax A.I. along with the event specifics or lack of them, even if you "play by the rules" of the race it's still going to feel grindy and drab. So either way I guess one would reason the best thing to do is just get it over with as quickly as you can and hopefully never have to do it again.

It took me so many tries to get gold at that Goodwood Mini race that I couldn't wait to take the Ferrari VGT to the Sunday Cup races! 🤣

If I recall, that was kind of a fun race early on in the game. The AI was always slow into those last couple right handers before teh chicane to the finish line. Easy place to pass there.
