Sims vs Slicks

Would anybody care to share a vid with the same car sporting sim tires and super-slicks just to show how much faster one is going through a turn drifting?

That would provide us a good example. I have my Shanghi Trueno equipped with super-slicks, but the fact that it's power curve is different and the engine requires higer revs, it's a bit harder to power-oversteer unless I'm like 85mph and under.

I like to control my drifts as in transition from left to right quicker. Super-slicks provide me that as compared to sims. I've tried sims for a while before, but they just didn't give me the grip I needed to go left to right or vis versa fast enough. That's just my opinion though...;) ...I do go back to sims from time to time though just to give it the kick.:D

Drift the way you like it, and If possible master drifting under all conditions, but never say that drifting with "insert tire here" is cheating or isn’t real drifting or what ever. It just blows up into a flame war. I usually drift with low powered cars on sims, but I can drift just as well with a 1000hp supra on super softs.

Very well said

its also good to know that I cant state my OPINION(which is not a fact just what I think) without getting bombed by people. Its just a game ok.

As for the guy that said a 200HP Trueno won D1, yes I friggin know because I was there. I saw the whole thing happen, so don't tell me or offer me info on it.

must have really hurt inside to see a 200hp car on street tires win the most renowned drift event in the world.

do you aspire to do the same? by the looks of your sig, i'd say you don't.

Some drifters keep the horsepower low...to keep it realistic. To be just like the real drifters. By using low-hp, mildly modified cars on normal tires, we are honoring all the real life drifters out there.

by boosting your car to an un-reasonable amount of horsepower and putting race car tires on it, it sort of defeats the whole purpose.

Then I'll call you a hypocrite because you said... and I quote...

I don't see a stock 86 winning any real comps. a driver qualified in a rented 350Z with an LSD for D1GP, but thats about it.

now 200hp from 160hp isn't that big of a bump in hp, and no gobs of turbocharged HP like most of them. Sure it's not stock, but no ****, nobody is going to use a "stock" car to win anything except those miata spec races. But a 200hp car beating out some 400hp and 500hp cars?

Wow!! Flaming!

Are we forgetting something here??? We suppose to have fun.. And I'm having lotsa SIM-less fun.. Someone else again will have SIM-fun galore!!! Wateva the case... JUST HAVE FUN!!! :p

Different strokes for different folks... it's THAT easy..

not to start up a racing drift flame war but i prefer sims on my drifts cars i aslo match the tire to the hp of the car . Another reason is when i race drift with my 86(hah) i use mediums or softs whatever i see fit so the tire chocie depends on waht you want and as long as you can get sideways then drift on!

Me a hypocrite? That Hachi was not stock, It may have had low horsepower but it wasnt stock. Hmmm, Cusco LSD.. I guess all 86's came with those. :banghead: So that is not proving me a hypocrite.

Yeah that 86 winning was great!!! As the last guy said I believe, were here to have fun, I lost sight of that with my opinions and ruined my fun and others fun which wasn't cool.

But as for my sig, come one, it's just a game to me. I'm here because I don't know any other GT3 drifters except my friend chuck but we never have time to race eachother. so I don't think it matters what I use to drift with. So I have an over powered car, I also have mild cars like the SW20 (except I dont have my PS2 right now so I can't give the specs on it.)

Yeah I wish I could honor the real drifters, but I'll go about it my own way. I drift on GT3 for "fun" which is the best reason for me.

Drift on Guys.....

I could try to throw something together. I would probably do 3 different cars...

Low hp ~200hp
Mid hp ~350hp
High hp +500hp

I know the high hp car is going to **** a brick with sims but i'll give it a shot. I am going to try and see the Return of the King Tomorrow, having a friend over to watch Evil Dead II on Thursday and going shopping on Friday for X-mas **** and some new jeans for myself. I'll fit it in somewhere.

I think sims are kind of a cheap way out too...you don't even really have to try much, just get maybe 400HP tops, get a custom suspension and LSD and you can hit the track. Then again, after a certain point it's all the same on sims or slicks with the same power...things just happen a lot faster on slicks...A LOT faster.

what are you talking about... we allready established sims are not the cheap way out... just because you can't drift w/ 123hp car doesn't mean sims are cheap and easy... i'd like to seee you drift first... then you can talk about what cheap...

often times people will try sims...on some suped up car, first turn they come to..they start sliding and think "WTF IT SLIDES WAY TOO EASY" this does NOT mean it's easy to drift.

Sims do in fact give up their traction early, but by no means is that cheating. Drift has many aspects...once you have learned these, you can argue with us here.

until then, we'll call you a n00b. ;) :p

I've been spending alot of time on a 100% stock AE86 with sims for the past couple of days. I want you to try to drift this car well, because I can almost guarantee you won't. There is NO power to save you. You actually need skill to get it sideways and keep it there. I've gotten really good with this car and pushing it farther than I thought it could go in stock form. Just because you're used to going into turns at unrealistic speeds and just flooring it doesn't mean sims are a cheap way out.

umm it wasnt 200 it was 180Hp naturally aspired. i bet u dont even know that he won more than on D1 comp. and i doubt u know why hes got skills...

as for SIMs VS. Slicks... depends on the player, u wan to play a game go for Slicks. if u want it to be more difficult and challenging use Simulation tires, also work ur way up as if it were a real car. save up little by little learn ur car and once mastered, go towards the next step add bigger turbo, etc... those are my thoughts.. otherwise i think there are other video games based on drifting u could go out and buy.

My C-West S14 had sims on them, which I thought I put on super slicks.

I can tell you that, it just drifts too long. In a way, it doesn't seem realistic because of the long drift. Maybe it's the camera position? Sims makes it eaiser to control because you have more time to correct your yaw angle etc. due to the *slickness* nature of the tire.

I do want to have everything as realistic as possible, which is why i set up my suspension and etc realistically via physics. I'll have to have more time sideways with the sims that way I can choose something.

hey, I drift on racing slicks and am against sims, so do I suck just cause I use only racing slicks. remember my battle with bustwave? that was my first time using sims and I still won. that should tell you something about sims. I gotta go now, so I will get back to you later. peace.

why u trying to start ****???

Yeah, all I'm saying is that it would be beneficial to learn with sims. After learning how to control the car well with sims, you should then start trying other HP and tire combos. If you would have read the previous posts, you would know that. Furthermore, you only drift using slicks? You don't use any other HP and tire combos? I think you are limiting yourself if you don't try other methods IMHO.;)

Being a person of some sort of authority I to will go on record saying sims and a FR car is the most ideal for drifting. Even if you don't use this combination most of the time, you should at least have some experience in it.

im goin to practice with the 86 if i can get better

np my boss uses sims,im now using sims on a 400r,most of my teammates is using sims

I am coming in quite late, but i have seen a couple of people say sims are for cheaters... I am sure that most people who drift on sims can drift on any other tires out their, maybe not with the same setup, but with the same cars and relatively the same amounts of hp (unless we are talking about real grippy tires). So i dont think that any of the people out there calling sims users cheaters should be headed by anyone learning how to drift. I personally began on slicks and made the move to sims later. In the present i drift both slick super slicks and sims. These are actually teh only tires besides normal or sports that i use in the game. The latter two are only for when i do not have enough money in a new game to buy better tires... Anyways, There is nothing cheating about sims. If you can control them then y ou have mastered a tire with the leaxst amount of grip available in the game. I admit that we seem to get super long drifts from these tires, when compared to real life, but then again we are in a video game, so why bother dispute the realism invovled with these tires. I mean it might be the video game, or it might be what we can accompish in this no consequence setting...

Anyways, i want to meet someone who can get through all or most of the begginner league on sims in a car with no more than 300 hp. I am working on that myself, and i think that it can be done. Sims are not for cheaters, they are for people who want to be the best at everything. Just becuase you didnt use them prior to your battle and beat bust 260z doesnt prove their inferiority. It just shows that you did better than him on that course. Its not like you hoped into teh car for the first time and drifted on sims and beat him. You had practice...

Anyways i am out
