im a beginner drifter and i use the analog, if i buy a logitech force feed back would this help me smoothen my drifting? cause right now my counter steering isn't smooth and so as my gas. thanks

no it won't , just practice with the controller right now until u get the basic idea of drifting

Watch a few good videos carefully watch them very closely, pay attention to the gas and steering. Watch them as many times as you need, you'll eventually get it 👍

I bought the logitech wheel a while ago, i didnt really see a big difference in my drifts ''smoothness'' but it was a hell of a lot more fun lol.

As far as smooth drifting goes, if you're talking about smooth counter-steer, the logitech wheel might help you drift FR layout cars because it gives you precise counter-steer.

i.e. the wheel lets you control the amount of steering and may help you in some situations of countersteer.

Do you set your acceleration to the analog stick? Because that's what I did, I set accelaration and brakes to the right analog stick.

thats right...ever since i got my wheel, my countersteer has gotten a lot smoother...and pretty much everything else has gotten smoother since...but i dont really think you need it unless if you had money to burn...like me...

YES! It will help smooth out your countersteer, giving the car a more real and pleasing look through the corner, simply because it gives you more control. Also, the analog gas pedal (on the wheel) is priceless when it comes to linking drifts and keeping your angle throughout the drift. The wheel may not "make it easier" but it does make it more enjoyable to do, and definately more pleasing to watch. The realness factor to drifting with a wheel is very high, especially with the Diving Force Pro. If you are going to buy a wheel, don't bother with any other for the PS2, they simply don't compare. If you can't afford the $150 pricetag that is in retail stores buy it online. Amazon has them for $114 shipped and you can get refurbished DFP's from ebay, for around $75-90 shipped. But whatever you do, make sure you have a secure place to attach it, it will also make the wheel experience more enjoyable.

Another reason to consider getting the DFP is for GT4. It is the official wheel and when it comes out you will be able to use the 900 degree mode, which greatly enhances the feeling of driving a real car. Also, if you're feeling saucy you could get a fliptop and swap magic (about $40), which would make you able to play prolouge (about $30) and use the 900 degrees now!

All in all, a wheel is a great investment and DOES enhance Gran Turismo way beyond whatever any dual shock controller can do.

Well I usually use my Dualshock....... So the drifting is alot rougher..... Because the fact is that really the j-stick really only is left or right..... I suppose you could try to be more precise..... So when I drive i use the stick all the way to the top.... That way the left/ right motion becomes smoother and more like a steering wheel.... So...... push the stick to the top all the way through the course and move it along the edge of the base....

Yes, the wheel would help. However, there are things you can do now that will help as well. And won't cost you $150.

I'd suggest the Trial Mtn time trial. It's a low powered car, and the time trial is tough. The key to a good time is running smooth and even through out. Throttle control and Smooth steering input are key factors. Spend an afternoon running this time trial, each time, concentrating not on time, but on steering and throttle control.

When the smooth application and control of the sticks become second nature, you'll find that controlling your drifts and making the car drift where you want and exit where you want, considerablt easier.

Good luck

Everyone's advice so far is preaty helpfull, I'd like to say something too since I too use a Dual shock and have learned how to drift a smoothly as possible.

For mysetup, I use the X button for gas and Square for brake as the default and the left joystick for steering. Because the PS2's buttons are pressure sensitive, it's possible (but none the less difficult no doubt) to have some sensitive control over throttle and braking imput at all timesl. The real trick with anything, PS2 or any steering wheel is to be smooth and show finese with the controls. This applies to actuall driving, any racing in GT2, not just drifting. Smooth imputs at times tend to bring smooth reactions, it's like Newton's 3rd law, every action has an equal and oppoiste reaction.

It's not something that comes instanlty, it takes time, effort and above all patience. Although I also at times went for using the other analog stick for the accelerator and brake, I'm more comfortable with the buttons.

To put it simply, just pratice a lot with the controller, indeed look at the drift videos here, and even try and look around for real life drifting videos including D1, hell, even take a look at Initial D, it may be an anime but it’s closer to reality than one may think. Just pratice and learn and you’ll understand in time.

There’s only one other hint I can come up with to help, know your car, it’s an escential key and also common sense. The car you use will detrirme just what potiental it has to drifting in any given case.

Feel free to ask more questions on this and I’ll be happy to answer, I want to let anyone know in advance I do know a LOT about cars.

EDIT: Forgot to mention cars AND control, least speceficly to FR and MR's as far as drifting goes. If it comes to any other type of racing, any drive train can work for me.

Till later.

I found that once I set my acceleration to the analog stick it helped my overall drifting and driving a lot!
A lot of your drifting skills really come from a well set up car too. Dont be afraid to try lots of different things until you get comfortable with a car and track. Find your favorite corners and keep taking them over and over again.
