Wow first I've heard of this. I am in a racing league and tonight we race at Spa. I wonder how many people aren't going to be there for the race because of this? It would be a shame.

You *can* race at spa without purchasing the DLC... you just have to find an online room at that location. :sly:

Not anymore, that is what this thread is about.

It is as I feared. At least one person cannot race with us tonight because they don't have the dlc. Yes they have the option to buy the dlc but for people that can't afford it, bad news for them I guess.

Can't afford $2.95? I know they are vast swathes of population who cannot afford it, but they usually don't have access to a PS3, internet and a $60 to being with.

Wasn't it $7?

I see a positive and negative to this:
Pro:
-We get what we paid for; those who didn't buy it can't leech off us

Con:
-Wasn't announced
-Racing leagues forced to suddenly change schedule
-Friends can't drive with you if they don't have the DLC
-Less people making/racing in Spa rooms

Less people means less fun...which I hate since its such a good track.

Lets average it out at $5 :D.

But your points are valid. I personally didn't mind people racing on 'my' track in a lobby. I'd sure rather have that then only have other DLC users available to race in my online lobby.

In our case there was two people with EU discs and apparently they cannot purchase the dlc because they are from the US with a foreign game disc. That is what happened to them. We just did a track vote, problem solved.

I thought about this and I have changed my opinion to a degree. I dont mind that it was taken away from open lobbies. The part that is rubbing me the wrong w3ay is not being able to invite someone into my private lobby and allowing them to play on it. I paid for it and I should be able to host races on it. That is over the line PD!

You can host races on it, but people have to pay for the DLC rather than getting it for free.

Whats worse is I paid for the whole pack and I cant use Kart Space @ all,
and I love kart space. Im pi$$ed

I understand that. I agree with it in open lobbies. The problem I have is if I want to host a race with people from all over the world, that may or may not have bought something that I have, I should be able to. I paid for it and should be able to use it as I see fit within reason.

To me that is like inviting some one to my house and not allowing them to use something I paid for because they did not themselves buy it.

Like I said, open lobbies I get. My private lounge is another matter. I hope they sort this out. I didnt pay for a track to be an elitist. I didnt pay for a track to haul butt around all by my lonesome. Just not well thought out.

I was in a race series and the Creator of the event made sure in his posts that dlc is required to participate. I think everyone should have that posted in there series.

HAHA I just called a guy in an online lobby a liar because he said that, and I didnt believe him

Damn thats a low blow from PD...

Not a low blow. You've been using something which everyone else has payed for. If you want to drive on Spa, buy Spa.

Shisty, or is it spelled shystee?... Either way bogus move, PolyPHONY. You went from having the coolest & most valuable DLC(pack 1, with Spa available to the masses) in the whole PSN store, to well, this->(insert extremely vulgar/derrogatory statement here) junk, your current state, post-update/downgrade 2.02 & a joke of 'cars pack #2'... Please explain the logic behind your actions.. or shall i?

Seems you got your die-hard fanboy followers who will defend your poor judgement calls to the death( & you know it, PD), But me... Very, very unimpressed & unentertained. :fart: Not stupid enough to not see through to what you're trying to do here & matter of fact i called this Months ago.

When i joined a Spa room hosted by a young Englishman, before it was available for DL'ing in the states, i looked at my GF & said "won't be long before they change this".... i was wrong, took PolyPHONY 2 mo's...
.... guess that was a long time. -_-

Yep, Long enough for me to start a racing series & featuring Spa as a Event 'open to all'. Or was i wrong to make that assumption?... That i'd be able to take a track i've paid for & host a race with my friends & league-mates, like i have so many times before?!👎(no longer will i provide the free beer i paid for, its BYOB, or BYO-DLC Track Pack to my private GT5 lounge party. NON-alcoholic steltzer water still free though[trial mtn])

I would say here that i was surprised by the money-hungy move, but i wasn't... Called it actually. Its 2011, almost 2012 & NOTHING companies do nowadays is a 'low blow'... at least not to us hard working, taxpaying, poverished common folk. They'll gladly take my last $3.99 & add it to the bottom of their humongous ever-growing bank pile. Please defend PD for this fanboys, they've bought your honor, blood & sweat!

this will cause consternation if three people with Spa vote for it and leave thirteen people without Spa watching the race from the pits.

this is a self quote.

I still haven't decided if I'll buy it yet, I have played on it a couple of times but its not a very exciting track either visually or to race on (with the exception of that uphill flat out corner). Not a huge fan of online racing or seasonals after hitting level 40, if they raised the level cap and added more proper A spec events then I would not even have to consider it.

I am in the same boat as many who did not purchase the DLC. I have no problem in purchasing the Spa DLC. My issue as some people pointed out was the lack of information from PD. First you allowed people who didn't purchase the track to race online. Obviously there will be a subset of people who will not buy it because they can race online - yes that was not fair to those who purchased it.

I also have no problem that they decided to restrict access to those who purchased the track. The point of the matter was there was no information update made available.

Had I known this was going to happen in the latest update (2.02) I would have purchased the full DLC package. The day before the update was released I purchased the car dlc.

!@#$#!@ PD for not announcing it earlier. Now I have to go and purchase the track too - yeah its not much more compared to the full dlc, but who wants to pay more for just 2 DLC when they could have gotten 4. Yeah I got burned.....

This is not good, i cant buy the DLC because there is no estonian accounts in playstation network and i cant buy it on another accounts as it will not accept my credit card.

That's basically like stealing. You didn't pay for it, but your able to use it pretty much any time you want. You really shouldn't be complaining about losing something that wasn't yours in the first place.

Ive been thinking of how to say whats wrong here, and this is it basicaly.:)

You're acting like it was a mistake by PD to make that track freely accessible for everyone. Fact is, however, that it was intended to be so.
I'm fine with them removing this [evidently] time limited option, but they should have made it clear beforehand that they would have changed it in 2.02.

The problem is, as other said, lack of information by PD. This was a cheap "drug dealer" -style move.

How do you know it wasn't an accident?

How do you know it wasn't an accident?
Because back in October there were some tweets reporting that users without DLC were kicking users who purchased it out of Spa rooms and there was no mention of accidents by PD on Yamauchi's Twitter account; rather that his idea of letting everybody join DLC Spa rooms kind of backfired.

Before anyone jumps on me for supporting PD's decision, think of another company that allows you to play DLC online for free off from another player. I can't think of one game where you can share DLC with a friend, let alone for free. Be reasonable, people.

PD actually was nice to let everyone to try out Spa in the beginning. If PD was like any other business, they wouldn't have allowed online access to Spa in the first place. This is sometimes why I think people can't have nice things to begin with. They turn it into an expectation and view it as their right instead of a privilege.

I'm sorry, folks, but for those who says they can't afford to buy DLC and is outraged by PD's move to make DLC inaccessible online for free, go find another game developer that's as lenient as PD and gave you 3 months of free DLC access.

DLC costs around £3.50 iirc.

The people complaining that they can`t afford it will probably quite happily pay more than that on a trip to the drive through, but can`t see that 1 less takeaway = DLC. ;)
