Spam bots and Trolls

Is it me, or have we been seeing quite a bit more of these lately? Spam bots posting weird threads and trolls with less than 5 total posts posting threads just to start fights.

If you see one, keep calm and use the Report Post function. A moderator will be along shortly to measure out Rough Justice (tm, patent pending) to those involved. And if you're particularly lucky, you may even get to see the Indigo Avenger in action.

I've done that and it works most of the time after a bit of a delay, but depends on the time of day. Like the issue we had last night. I was the first on scene and could have dealt with it quickly if I had the powers but had to report it and wait until a moderator arrived. Unfortunately it took some time for one to see it and in the mean time the poster went on a tirade against people posting in there, and zeroed in on me personally.

I avoid all that by just reporting it and not giving any hints that it's me that reported it. As we seem to be talking about this, this thread has gotten out of hand.

Trollers gonna troll, haters gonna hate. They always have been always will be. What's there only weakness? Not getting attention. Use the report button and just ignore them. This thread is pure troll bait!

Someone posted 2 of those threads in the F1 2011 game thread, and I forgot where the other one was posted.

Another one recently posted one in the Racing Series section, and I reported it and it is now deleted.

That's really all that needs to be done. Don't respond to them, don't quote them, no pointless comments, etc.. Report and move on. 👍

Another one just turned up at 9:50pm BST and I reported it. As soon as I got back to the thread, the spammer was banned. You guys are really quick with that.

Would IP bans cut down on the amount of spam bots that pop up? (if IP bans aren't used already)

You'll find Spam Bots and Trolls on every forum. There will be no way to stop them unless registrations are closed (or require invites) but that probably won't happen.

One way the staff could prevent spam bots is to prevent users from posting links or editing their signature or about me page until they have 10 staff verified posts.

All we can do know is just report and move on.

That might actually work, though such users could still do their thing without posting links, spamming their way to 10 posts and then with the links. Also, found another one of these, TrueBloodDan, in the GT4 forum. He's been reported.
