I didnt dislike episode 8 as much as most people did. I will wait to see how it will fit in the trilogy. I do dislike the the new title, because it spoils the plot. I dont see how Rey isnt a skywalker now. Or is it a red herring?

They could handle it a couple of ways, I don't think they'll go for anything as simple as having Rey as some kind of skywalker family blood relation... But since its the final film, they could just have called it 'the good guys win', and I don't think it would give anything away.

Don't the good guys typically win? It more how they get there then anything that makes us go watch the films and the character building. As for Rey they said they were basically retconning her origin so it's probably safe to say she is a long lost Skywalker some way some how.

In a more fitting world I suppose they wouldn't have just ousted the legacy content and instead did a more Marvel like move with these three stories and just made it a cinematic version of Jacen and Jaina Solo. Since they essentially did the Jacen Solo part but changed his name to Ben. But hey why do the Thrawn Trilogy when you can do whatever it is this has been for the past few years.

It is also a strange that this being the last film in the skywalker saga, being called "rise".

Eehh.. We wouldn't be in a better place if they'd just done Old EU/Legends stuff, and I don't think JJ doing a "OMG they're brother and sister thing" would be good for the series either. Part of the problem is that the films aren't running even with the current canon... I'd be stunned if, even with the return of Palpatine, we get a mention of operation Cinder, for example.

Gotta get a jump off point for the next series of films :sly:

That would be exactly why the Legends stuff works better, it actually is in tandem with canon, what we get now is a collective of writers and producers trying far too hard to capture the original series while seemingly getting it wrong. The amount of Legends stuff they used and just made it canon in their own way is hilarious and was predictable from the onset sadly.

I don't want to come across as anti-legends, but a lot of it was rubbish, and I support the wiping of the slate clean - and I also support them bringing things back... it's a good way of doing it. My issue is that outside of the films, they've been doing a great job of tying things together, and making the best of the canon... but the films ignore that, the films come first, then everything stacks up behind them... they don't need to connect to anything, but so much stuff connects to them... that's my biggest problem with how Disney handle it. It's a total waste... Abrams was the wrong man for TFA, Rian fumbled TLJ, and TROS will likely neither do anything new or offer sufficient fan service... it massively lets down everything that is being built around it.

edit: if I could change one thing about the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm, it would be Filoni's role... his input could have been so much better used.

Agree on Filoni. In fact I'm one of those fans that don't care much about the movies but follows with great interest whatever Filoni is doing. Speaking of which, as a SW fan I have to say that this panel is a delight to watch (one hour long but I did watch it all). These guys do LOVE their work and their work is creating its own legacy.

So. The Death Star wreckage at the end of the trailer.

• DSII on the forest moon of Endor?
• DSII on another of Endor's moons or another planet in that system?
• DSI on Yavin 4 or other Yavin system planet/moon?
• Either Death Star on some other yet unseen planet?

Either of the first two tie in with us hearing Palpatine in the trailer as this is where he 'died' in RotJ. But the large body of water surrounding the wreckage in the trailer doesn't really tie in with what we know of the forest moon's topography of dense forest and only 8% surface water - although artistic licence could certainly be used if they wanted the scene to appear more filmic.

Most comments i've read online have people stating that it must be DSII as Palpatine's laughter is heard at the point in the clip where we see the Death Star, but we know that Lucasfilm like to lead us into thinking towards certain potential plotlines by overlaying unconnected audio and visual clips within their trailers. To me, Yavin 4 makes more sense as the moon has strong links to the force in previous (canon) SW literature and also the what i imagine is a now uninhabited rebel base. Poe Dameron was also brought up on the planet/moon. Some earlier footage within the trailer has characters in a forest environment which could be either Endor or Yavin 4, but Yavin 4 also has larger bodies of water then Endor.

Thoughts?

If I have to pick DSI or DSII I'll go with DSII.

DSI was reduced to a ball of shiny dust in space (check 1:58 of the video below) ...

... while DSII's explosion left visible chunks of it (pause the video below at around 1:12)

Also, that debris from DSII's explosion were a problem to Endor's moon is canon, as you can see from the (offical SW's account) tweet from 2016

Regardless , since both planets (moons) are satellites to gas Giants and both these Giants (Yavin and Endor) have other habitable moons (or Class "M" planets, as a trekkie would say ;) ) we can always imagine, at first thought, that this wreckage must have landed in another moon.

But then again if you pause the DSII destruction video at the 1:06 mark you will see lots of blue, so … it can be indeed that the footage from the trailer is from the Endor moon we know, not another (Endor) moon.

My two cents! 👍

On the RotJ/DSII vid i'm not seeing any chunks nearly big enough to be that piece around the superlaser array that we see in the trailer.

But as i said before, filmic/artistic licence allows them the wiggle room to overcome any of these issues if it better suits the new story and anything done or said in non-film canon can and will be largely ignored if it fits the plot better.

I think both options would be feasible, and offer some interesting links back to previous events in canon... I suspect it'll be DS2 though as from what I've heard about early concept art, the intention is to have them retrieve something from the wreckage - what would they be retrieving from the first Death Star?

It's a classic JJ visual, same as the downed Star Destroyers from TFA, I wouldn't be too worried about whether it lines up from the visual effects from 20 years ago.

Here, details taken from the pictures you posted (@TheCracker ). I know it is all just a coincidence, but it is funny to come up with these outlandish and unbelievable explanations :p

Unless … someone at LucasFilms or ILM or whatever also noticed that shadow and thought "hmmm … we can work something out with that" :D

Kenobi's smock...

...or lightsaber? ;)

Oh yeah, I'd forgot about that. :dunce:. Rey's got a lightsaber on her as they survey the Death Star wreckage though.... maybe they need a second one for.....

... Finn, Poe, C3-PO.

:D

I still think it's DS2 though.

Thoughts on the DS2@Endor possibilities. If Kylo Ren has Vader's helmet from his Endor funeral pyre, then maybe he has already established a connection with or base/hideaway there. Maybe the wreckage of DS2, being where both Vader and Palpatine died, maintains some darkside of the force energy or influence. Hence the reason why our hero's have travelled there rather than to find something.

Could be wrong but I thought the tail of Vaders helmet being retrieved was told in 'The Perfect Weapon'. Kylo didn't have to go to the Forest moon to retrieve it.

Loving the music in The Mandalorian trailer! As someone who greatly enjoys the world of Star Wars much more than the films, this'll probably get me to subscribe to Disney+.
