So there’s already quite a bit of talk about Sith Rey wielding a “dual” red lightsaber like Maul’s.

But, the actress looks a bit older than Ridley unless that’s intended as a result of “turning”. I would’ve assumed it was Qi’ra making a return from Solo since that film teased Maul.

I think most people are assuming it’s a vision in the film, which seems very plausible. I saw one theory though guessing that she turns when the Emperor reveals her past and Ben actually becomes the “rise”, adopting his mother’s Skywalker link with the force.

Cue Dorothy: "It was only a dream. I was Sith, all along!"

I see Rey has a deal with Samsung.

A YouTuber I watch mentioned that in the scene where she throws the lightsaber at the tree, she might have had a bandage on her arm? If she got cut by something, and some of her blood got into the wrong hands, a clone could be made...

So. Anyone watched the first episode of the Madalorian yet? If so, thoughts on it?

I've seen some mixed reviews, most of the negative points have been that the episodes are too short at 40mins and that it it feels a bit 'Marvel-like' whatever that means. Disney+ doesn't arrive in the UK and Europe for another 4.5 months (136 days) - but i can't see hardcore fans wanting to wait that long to watch it, assuming a DVD/Bluray version won't be released until at least just before the 2nd season premiers. I imagine that means it will just get heavily pirated.

I thought it was good. Started off slow for me because of the first scenes with the fish looking dude. Wasn't a fan of him at all. Once that was over with it picked up a bit and I enjoyed it. And the ending, holy cow.

Also just finished the 2nd episode and it was MUCH better than the first and I thought it was amazing. Really looking forward to see where this story goes for sure.

Yeah, watched the second episode this morning.

I like it. My over riding thought is it feels like a story from one of the comics, perhaps that's what the Marvel-like comments are about since they publish the Star Wars comics.

Itll be interesting to see how it develops. After the first episode I thought they could have leaned into the Star Wars Western thing a little bit more, but certainly after chapter 2 it does feel a lot like Red Dead Mandalorian.

Indeed, it gets better each episode.

Loving this show. My wife isn't a big Star Wars fan, but she says it's easy to watch and wants a "you know who".

Had to chuckle a bit and thought this episode was like the very end of John Wick 2.

Mandalorian is a great "western" TV show for the new generation. I really hope all the characters along the way will join for a kind of band of brothers at the end of the season and be the cast for season 2.

My biggest criticism however is the weekly format in the age of streaming. I do understand though, because disney+ does not have enough content (yet) for people to keep them angaged and keep paying for the monhtly streaming fee.

Personally, I don't really have a lot of faith in Rise of Skywalker, but then again, I think it could go either way. At any rate, I don't think Disney has handled the IP as well as I had hoped, especially for the videogame aspect of it. IMO they should've allowed the license to be leased to multiple devs/publishers interested in the IP, rather than just one publisher. Disney really has no idea how to deal with videogames, which is really too bad considering all the money they generate.

But I digress. I really don't know about RoS. I don't blame Rian Johnson because I really liked Knives Out. I think Disney-Wars plays it too safe. It doesn't feel like the world's expanding, but instead, we're just getting more variants of classic designs. I thought the prequels were extraordinarily flawed, but one thing I thought they did especially well was expanding the universe. For example, I think the alien designs of the new movies is abysmal and entirely forgettable. Contrast this to stuff from the prequels, like just the podracing pilots alone.

I'm curious to see where the IP will go after this so-called "Skywalker Saga" concludes with RoS. It honestly reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, with its "Xehanort Saga," in that both feel a bit improvised rather than a saga that's actually been properly planned. But I think it could also be a good thing to throw off the baggage, to see Star Wars movies that don't try to compare themselves to the older stuff and feel a need to tack-on older elements even if they don't fit. Key word being could.

I don't think Disney have played it too safe, they've done some pretty random and ballsy stuff... of the criticisms that I do think are valid, a lack of plan and direction has been the biggest problem. I'm okay with the areas they've explored, but it seems to be the case that back in 2015, they didn't know what they'd be doing in 2019/20, other than releasing films, consequently the construction of the new canon has been a bit patchy, and constrained by waiting for Directors and Writers to release their films. It's gathering momentum now quite nicely I think, but it's almost sacrificed the sequel trilogy to do so. I think this has affected all parts of the canon media, be it films, comics, TV, books or games. In short, they HAD to put out a A LOT of media to replace the old EU, but they had to do it not knowing what direction the character arcs would take. It's like a machine thats parts are all working away well, but not working in unison..

To me, the biggest hole at the moment, comes from building the universe between RotJ and TFA. I know it's been covered, I've read the books, comics, and played BF2, but if any part of the story needed explaining, I'd have rather they skipped Resistance and made a TV show based around the aftermath trilogy.

As for the computer games, I don't first person shooters but I think they executed Battlefront II pretty well... I'm off to pick up a takeaway and see if I can pick up Jedi: Fallen Order from the supermarket after I hit Post Reply, so we'll see if that adds much to the story.

Last night, I watched the first two episodes of The Mandalorian and really enjoyed them. I am interested to see what they continue to do with the series, especially because The Clone Wars and Rebels are probably my favorite Star Wars.

I only saw the first three and have been holding off so I can watch a few in a row. I guess watch the last two for an hour of good TV?

Yeah it was a bit meh but the ending, could be anyone.

The other lead in this episode was miscast.

I heard those spurs and saw that cape and my immediate thought was Boba Fett and now I am hoping for a standoff at the end of the season as a tribute to the good, the bad and the ugly.

If its Fett, I don't believe he'll have his own armour, I believe at this point in the timeline a fella called Cobb Vanth has it... Or at least that was what was implied in the Aftermath trilogy.
