Steering wheels ?

After many months of GT5 ownership, today I replaced my old Logitech Force Feedback wheel (the first one made for GT3) with a DFGT. A 300% improvement! The wheel feels very good, it's not as noisy as I thought and the brake pedal has surprisingly a nice feel compared to my old wheel. Though, the 900 degrees of rotation will take a while to get used to, as I am unable to recover extreme oversteers as I did with my old wheel.

Contrarily to what other people might think, I do not think that GT5 physics are sophisticate enough for an expensive wheel, unless you really want a clutch, firmer pedals (but that will force you to buy a fixed seat unless you want to move your chair everytime you brake) and a smoother wheel rotation feeling. But again, I personally feel that all these goodies are not worth the price just for GT5.

Also, G25/27 and fanatec wheels are only unofficially supported.

I disagree with what you are saying here 100%, if you have the cash and you want a great wheel then defiantly go with the G25/G27 wheel. Physics IMO have nothing to do with the type of wheel you buy. I once had the DFGT and I recently upgraded to the G27 and I can safely say that I like this wheel much more than I do the DFGT and the G27 also has many more pros than just a clutch, firmer pedals, and a smoother wheel. You also don't need a fixed seat just to press on the brake pedal, what are you talking about?!

Edit: Just because I can't change whether or not I have ABS on during a race doesn't mean that I would want to switch to a fully supported DFGT.

Well, it depends on the price range your looking for.

For $50-$200, I would say the Fanatec Carrera. Especially with the special going on right now, you really can't beat it.

For $200-$400 will go to Fanatec again. The GT3 RS is a very powerful wheel, belt driven instead of helical gears like the G27, and with the current offer, for $30 more than a G27 they will throw in a set of Clubsport Pedals, which are, the best around.

For $400-$600, it will depend. If you have an Xbox, then the Fanatec GT2 is the winner. If not, then you really don't need the extra feature, it's really the same as the GT3 RS, just with a different paint job and Xbox compatibility. The Thrustmaster T500RS is the winner. It has the best FFB around, and it's officially supported. But be warned, it is very expensive, and in the coming months, Fanatec is coming out with the Clubsport Wheel, which will have better FFB (maybe) and interchangeable wheel rims. No price yet though.

All these wheels are good, and you can go with any of them. For an in-depth view look at this review here. It helped me choose the GT3 RS. I will go into an in-depth review of it here when I get it too.

Let's put it this way:

DFGT: 100 euro
G27: 200 euro
T500RS: 400 euro + shifter (probably around 150 euro when it comes out)

It's about diminishing returns for the price paid, especially if you use it only to play GT5, but of course it's just my opinion. If you can spend the price needed with no problems at all, go for the most expensive wheel you can get. If you need to sacrifiy something to afford it, I don't think it's worth just for GT5, and a DFGT will do fine (extremely great value for the price!).
