BTW: How does 30 laps sound?
30 laps is good for me. I will try the replay soon. Just got home. Will let you know if it works.
DJ, tires should hold up for 15 laps.
How do you feel about running more laps, like 32, 34 or 36? We could then have different pit strategy.
40 laps?
Xonant, I know what you mean about being lapped. I was in the Cappuccino series and I got lapped almost every race!
Give the longer race a chance. Even if you are not racing with someone, you will still get faster as you will know the track more. Also, some of us are fast with some track/car combo, but slow with others, so you will never know. With a longer race, you can beat someone who is faster if you can be more consistent.
Come run some practice laps with us today or tomorrow. I gained 2 seconds last night just knowing the track better.
Last week Greyfox won I believe. He will be fast this week too.
I'm not sure I can focus that long
Last weeks race was long and intense, and if I'm not mistaken ryce_bouy ran away with the win by a big margin. After 5 laps I was no longer competitive - and was fighting for 8th -10th place finish - and I'm sure that's true for most drivers last week.
Honestly, I struggled to finish that race with bad tires and busted up car. The better drivers, tuners and cars are gonna win anyway. I'm not included in any of those groups; I'm still learning the ropes.
30 laps is plenty and gets my vote (prolly too much). With 40 laps, I'm already wishing the race was over. It's probably pretty good for the better drivers, but we need to keep novices spirits up
. If after 10 laps I'm being lapped by the leader what's the incentive to continue racing
?
Xonant, like Rycebouy and DJ said, I have found that running a lot of laps is the key. As I know the track more, my time gets faster (sometimes).
As for tuning, I am still learning. Scaff has a good guide. Also, here is a link: http://www.gt5-tuning.com/index.php?title=Nissan_Silvia_Spec-R_Aero_(S15)_‘02
I usually set my car to online status after the race so people can see what I am running. I do not do it before the race because I am constantly tinkering with the setup.
I ran a 1:19.5 last night, with a pretty stiff setting and high downforce setup. But that was a fluke. Out of 40 laps, I think I only got below 19 twice. I dont remember the setting, but I would be happy to share it tonight or tomorrow.
Just joining this group and it's my first time racing online. Here's the car I plan to use Friday.
Well turns out I cannot make the race on Friday. I will be doing overtime on Friday and my shift is from 4pm to midnight. I could never refuse time and a half. Hope everyone has a good race :-(
That was pretty fun practice. I have never run so much before a race--the repetition helps a lot. Good that we made some credits running the 3 lap race while practicing too.
For future races, how do you all feel about running a race where we start in the afternoon and end in night? Night racing especially if there is no driving line, requires more concentration.
I would also like to run a wet/dry race too.
