Super Unofficial DiRT 4 Thread (PS4/XB1/PC)

Nope. It's easier for me to catch calls from her than Grist with his accent and cadence.

It is a stellar day one lineup, but I can think of a few gaps. Celica GT-Four, Lancer Evo III, Legacy RS, Giulia GTA, 911 and 959...and Citroën of course (I'm aware of the WRC license snag). I would personally love to have a few obscurities like the Lancer 1600 GSR or 240Z Safari, maybe even a Subaru Leone, and the GT86 CS-R3 would be nifty.

I'm imagining the Xsara and Saxo Kit Cars would be fine?

GT86 CS-R3 would be nice too, maybe R-GT could be a reality?

Trying to think of potential DLC locations. I definitely think a jungle setting like Indonesia or Malaysia is in the cards, considering it's the only condition that wasn't represented in the game, maybe a desert area like Kenya or Morocco?
Jungles aren't represented in rallying either, really. The closest event at the moment is the Indian round of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship.

I would like to see a snowy tarmac rally. They avoided Monte Carlo, but Austria could work - the Jännerallye would be a good choice (plus it's not just mountainside roads, which is the one thing that bothered me about rally games; there's more to Monte Carlo than Sisteron-Thorad). They could possibly do something similar in South Korea or Romania, even if there are no rallies there.

Mexico might be a good choice. Because it's run at altitude, the air is thin, which means the cars are down on power and more prone to overheating. But I prefer the scenery of Argentina; given the location of the Andes, it wouldn't be hard to mix the two.

Another gravel rally could really be anywhere, so it would have to add something new. Maybe dust that lingers in the air, reducing visibility in places. Combine that with a desert environment and Turkey or Jordan would work. Rally Jordan was interesting because the roads were man-made and sprayed with salt water from the Dead Sea which gave them a diamond-hard finish. It made them easy to maintain, but it meant that there was no grip. Scenery in Turkey might be more interesting to look at, though.

In need of some help.

I've been mainly playing career mode with AI set to highest level. Rally courses I've been happy with my performance though I do like to overcook some 4 turns;).

My issue is Rallycross... the cars just want to overseer 90% of the time and I normally scrape into final but then struggle. I've tried loosening up the LAD etc but still no luck.

Anyone mind sharing a setup for RX on Ford Fiesta.

Many thanks

I think by this point, the best career mode DiRT could give me was a career mode with the team management of 4, and the sort of season like structure of Rally. Maybe a calender based career mode like the WRC?

Whilst I liked Dirt Rally's career too, when you think about it the structure was so basic that you can essentially recreate it in Dirt 4's Freeplay mode. It lets you set up any championship you want, with any class you want. It's integrated with team management - you can use your own cars, and doing them uses up your staff/sponsor contracts. A bit of setup work is needed (and you can have only one championship running at once which is a shame), but I'd argue the flexibility of Dirt Rally hasn't really been lost at all - the more linear/long-list-of-events type career is just in addition for those who want that sort of thing.

I'm imagining the Xsara and Saxo Kit Cars would be fine?

The total lack of Citroens in the game makes me wonder if Milestone has some sort deal with them (SLRE is pretty much the official Citroen rally game, after all).

Went to finish the monthly with 2 stages left, game froze as it was loading, restarted game and got a dnf for the last 2 and apparently the whole f'n thing. Not pleased

@SilverArrow & @TRGTspecialist the xsara is my fav rally car of all time , a bit odd I imagine but round about 12 yrs old watching what used to be the speedchannel here in the states whom covered rally I quickly fell in love with that car and what Loeb could make it do - but yeah milestone likely has rights

@Sureboss & @WhoosierGirl

Right you can do them at your leisure just make sure the swirly icon finishes before you quit to main menu

I'm on xb1 and was waiting for the patch , which dropped today. Before anytime I looked at LB's or anything on racenet my game would freeze so I waited it out. Popped on to finish them up and was b*tchslapped with a dnf

300k In the wind :banghead:

I had loaded up the game , went to the community section to finish the stages and clicked continue and got a loading screen for roughly 3-4 mins before I rebooted the game
I'm assuming it's got to do with the patch.
Just a heads up for anymore xb dirt-er's

I'll Replay the buggy career and get half the creds in a few mins at least

The game crashed on me early on a few times during online Pro events so, I did all the whole monthly event in one sitting hoping to avoid a crash, luckily it worked.

There's a theme going on today.
Power blinked during a thunderstorm and I got disconnected from a Pro Tour stage.
Next time I loaded the game, WHACK! 7-point deduction and a stern warning that I would be banned from multiplayer if I continued with such behavior.

After playing a bit more - I am happy enough with the physics of Dirt 4. Seems people have made enough comments on if gravel has too much grip or not. I could go either way, but for sure the FFB, physics, and control are satisfying.

Couple more things i noticed..

Is the virtual rear view mirror gone from RallyX ? I didn't see it anywhere in the options.. maybe I just missed it. Would be nice to have RallyX gets hectic.

The dirt mesh screen on the buggies and cross karts needs to fade out while moving. I have driven dirt oval and road cars that used mesh screens instead of windshields or lexan.. once you are driving the mesh pretty much vanishes as you look down track and are moving. It is very intrusive in this game and distracting which is very unnatural.

I don't usually trophy-hunt but I'd been enjoying/binging the game enough that I'd gotten most of them anyway, and was set to get the platinum this week, at the first opportunity (you can't get the monthly event trophy until it finishes).

One problem - I've just expertly plowed my Delta straight into a tree and DNF'd on the monthly (first DNF of the whole game for me too). So I'll have to wait a full month now to get the platinum - assuming I don't balls up the next monthly! Oops :dunce:

I struggle driving in that heavy fog. Did 8 of the 12 stages last night. Don't think I'm going to have a remotely decent time.

Ouch! I dunno if it works in the daily/ monthly events, but if I royally 🤬 up a stage I just reset the game and try again. Sure, sometimes I have to go back a few stages to the last service area, but DNFing in an early stage of a rally is painful. May be cheating a bit.

Nope the daily/weekly/monthly events are wonderfully brutal, you only get one attempt and no resets.

Combined with the stage generator and the heavy use of medium and long length stages and its one of may favorite bits of Dirt 4 (as it was for DR).

Yesterday's patch hasn't fixed Pro Tour on XB1. I won 4 points but was awarded zero. Two people had crashed out, so same issue as before--the game gets confused.

I somehow finished that monthly event, too many fog days for me to have any speed, but should be worth some decent money. Came over the line twice with a puncture.

*strokes very poorly Evo.

Hi guys loving the game so far ,ps4, er was wondering do we win any different liveries or patterns for the cars as we progress? im only playing freeplay at the minute..thanks..

Does anyone here have a good setup for the Lancia Delta S4?

It was my favourite car in DiRT Rally but just doesn't feel right so far for me in DiRT 4.

On a related note, is anyone else here getting "random" spins at slow-medium speed on gravel? I have had multiple experiences where I am exiting a "3" and the car just decides to swap ends without any prior warning. It's not my throttle input as that's normally pretty steady and I'm not putting a wheel over the edge of the road. This sensation is killing any confidence I get in a car, and wasn't something I experienced in DiRT Rally at all.

I, and a few others on this site, are experiencing the same thing as you. Judging by the reaction of some other members here, it is simply because we are bad at driving.

I have spinning issues all the time and have had to re-adapt to Dirt 4's driving physics coming from extensive Dirt Rally play. Like you, I have almost no confidence in gravel stages, almost to the point I dread playing long stages with the fear that I will unexpectedly loose control in the race.

I'm hoping they address it in a patch, but I think the people having this issue are a small minority.

I can't recall any unwarranted spins on gravel without grazing the edge of the road (and getting the physics-plosion glitch, not wheelspin). Spain is the only location I ever dread driving a longer rally, depending on the car, though I've found that wet weather in Spain seems to make for more natural handling across all cars.

That's not to say that the physics aren't wacky, but in my experience I'm more comfortable on gravel.

Hmm. It just feels like my car isn't connected to the road at times.

I may have to swallow my pride at some point and switch to Gamer handling; it's not as immersive but at least I can then push hard on a stage.

That's my experience in a nutshell on any surface with any car, but it's what I expected from a Codemasters title, because their games have always been that way. I was puzzled that Dirt Rally is considered a simulator, but I skipped it for a lack of unique stages.
