Well, they aren't official.
They're from gaming retailers so its very possible it could be different.

Yea, I figured as much since the 'box doesnt have a date yet, either.

I wonder what TDU would look like on my 256MB AGP 6800 GT.

Just annoyed no TVR cars have made it into the game.

Fresh off the lines!

September 16, 2005 - Our first experience with Test Drive Unlimited was ages ago at Atari's 2005 pre E3 event. The game was running on one of the G5 alpha kits and was extremely early in its development cycle. The version on the floor of TGS was fully playable, but not drastically different in terms of visuals.

Our experience started just outside of a mansion on the island of Oahu Hawaii. As we've previously reported, the game allows players to customize their collection of cars and their driver from the comfort of a dream house on the Island. The geography has also been replicated from satellite imagery and includes all of the major buildings and landmasses on the island.

We pulled out of our driveway in an Enzo and sped off down the twisty highway. The interior of the cars have been created down to the wood grain on the stick shift and this becomes very apparent with some of the interior views. Players can drive from behind the wheel, the front of the car, a third-person mode, or with a transparent HUD.

Test Drive feels like more of a simulator than an arcade racer. Players are able to reach some incredible speeds on the highway, but taking turns requires quick breaking and delicate handling. We shot off of the road on numerous occasions and kicked up grass and dirt as we plowed back towards the highway.

TD is mostly structured around a massive online component that allows player to cruise the island and look for people to compete against. We played the offline version and had to explore the street until we reached an icon that entered us into a four person point-to-point race. Our opponents appeared on the line in extremely hot cars, and the race tour through some residential areas while passing a series of checkpoints.

Test Drive still has some visual kinks to work out, but it was promising to see it playable on the floor of TGS. We'll have more information on this game as it approaches launch.

I really hope this one makes it's way to PS3.. While PSM did "confirm" that, I noticed a distinct lack of Test Drive on Sony's "official" list of games-in-development. A game like this, especially with that kind of car selection, could be exactly what we need to tide ourselves over until GT5.

Am I the only one who is pretty sure the Enzo doesn't have any wood in the interior? Or even a shifter at all? :dunce:

The Enzo does not have wood on the non-existant shifter, however they may not have been talking about the Enzo at that point, different scentence and they're addressing the detail in the cars not the a singal car or the Enzo it'self. Let's hope that is the case and not journalists not having a clue what they're on about again.

The Porsche Carerra GT has a wood shifter. :)

I'm sure other cars do as well, but that's the only one I know for sure has one.

lol, Triumphs, but I don't think they'd be in this game :sly:

even though I want them to!

Well I hope this does become a decent game, NFS needs some competition. I still enjoy the odd go of Test Drive 2: The Duel every now and again :D

Looks like with 150 cars in-game there will be TVR's in game now. Glad its that many.

Edit: Sorry for 2 posts.

Atari games, especially Test Drive, are absolutely horrible.

I like how peoples opinions run rampant..

"THE GAME IS HORRIBLE"...After maybe playing it for 5 minutes..

People need to stop getting such preconcieved notions about games..

TD was never supposed to be a sim..

just like MC..
just like PGR..
but people hate it because it isn't a sim.....

I suppose HL2 is a horrible game aswell..
because it isn't a great football game...

...That seems about the same comparison

I think its more the case people anticipate it to be a load of crap based on the many of the past games.

Just watched the video, it looks like it might be fun. I liked the way went in and out of the gravel ditch at the side of the road and the track looks alot like the old NFS tracks. As its Eden Studios there is some hope atleast, I'm keeping an eye on it just to see if it turns into a decent game :)

Whoever is playing REALLY SUCKS. I hate that...

That is like my biggest internet pet-peve..

Every game i'm anticipating...They have the gameplay footage of, and it's always some jackazz who doesn't "deserve" to be playing it. It's like they got their pothead son to play it....

Just like the gameplay of the Subaru at Grand Canyon..

Just like the gameplay of Gears of War

While I'd love to agree with you, I think I'm going to side with the driver on this one.
This is apparently the simulation aspect of the game we're seeing rather than a crappy driver on an arcade.

I'm siding 50/50 on this one. Poor driver, and sim aspect physics.

No way..

I just watched the video..

This is the result of a moron..

Not "sim"

Right off the bat he goes right into the grass..

then on the first corner doesn't even attempt braking..

hits the wall..then hits the gas again and spins out..

doesn't turn till he's in the outside 1/4 of the right turn
hits a divit...and almost slams into another guardrail

gets airborn plows into a sign and tries to countersteer like he was playing California Speed for the nintendo

tries to get into his garage and turns the wrong direction?

that's just dumb..

not the games fault..

Is it just me, or did that not sound very much like a Murcielago? For a next-gen game, I was expecting something that sounded a little closer to the real car. Lambos growl.

Umm, watch it again, he clearly has no idea what he's doing.
