It was originally a KDF, in the 30's.

So Volkswagen stole the idea from KDF ever since the 30's, or did KDF gave VW the design to create it but since it was in the midst of WW2 they saved it later through the years to be made?

It also sounds like KDF, like a lot of manufactures that lived for some time, then went bankrupt or just vanished and they sold the Beetle design to VW. Because if VW stole it from them, that would result as a lawsuit on Volkswagen.

Just wondering, gonna do some research (google time) on this topic. By the way, I can't wait for the car. I can see some drifting Beetles real soon or drag monsters . ;)

You know what would be pretty cool? If we had a drag racing competition with it. It'd be all down to setup. But I suspect given even with mods, it'd likely be very low powered, it might not be so exciting.

The KDF was a plan by Hitler that took them out of the depression. It allowed middle-class citizens to have 2 weeks of FORCED paid vacation to exotic places and on cruise ships etc. Part of his plan was an affordable automobile that anyone could afford on even subpar wages enter The peoples car that for the first 2 years was called the KDF Wagon but became the Volkswagen. KDF was not an auto manufacture bur more of a genius plan to elevate the working class that included much more than what I have said here. Maybe you should look it up and see how much of it could help america now. For all the hate going towards the 3rd Reich for their obvious crimes there should also be some love for there great Ideas. I hate how everyone is so brainwashed as if they have to hate anything German. You do know that america firebombed Berlin right? Killing hundreds of thousands of civilians and almost no military personnel.

True, so even you look past all the wrongs of the Nazi and their sociopath killings of hundreds of people. You can see that Hitler had some great ideas or ways to bring to the people, but why change around and cause chaos.

Time for more car homework for me tonight.

To all the hippies saying they wont drive it because it was Hitler's idea. I guess you should forget all the information you have learned about outer space or stop watching tv broadcast off of satellites because If not for the Nazi's and their rocket scientist America would not have won the space race. We used Werner Von Braun the chief Nazi rocket scientist to design the rocket that took us to the moon. In fact the Germans where in charge of that program it was their scientists and their ingenuity that got us to the moon not ours. You owe allot more to the Nazi's than you think. Color TV, VW, Porsche, Mercedes (would not have lasted without their funding), The rotary engine, Bugatti, Audi, Modern highway systems, To freaking much to list. I hate to break it to you all but the Nazi's where possibly the greatest inventors of the 20th century.

I think u dont get what i was about to say. Nazi germany developed this vehicle as a tool of propaganda and enslavembent. Ironically, after hitlers fall it became really what the nazis made the people believe, the small mans car. I aleady said its great and a legend! But i just dont like it.

You know, it wouldn't hurt to read up a little before making assumptions, KDF was the name given to the 'volkswagen' (which means car for the people) and after the war the Beetle was continued under the new brand name Volkswagen so KDF is Volkswagen or Volkswagen used to be called KDF.

So Volkswagen didn't steal or bought the design for the Beetle, it was designed by Ferdinand Porsche to become a 'volkswagen' and yes, he may have ' borrowed' a lot of ideas from Tatra's Hans Ledwinka or Josef Ganz.
But then again, that happens a lot, even now.

something like this and then just cruise

No RUFs or Porsches for you then. I take it you dont have the Samba bus then, or the other aircooled VWs. Without this "Hitler-mobile", there would be no Porsche at all, or Bugatti Veyron, or any VW AG at all. Everything VAG and Porsche AG has ever done is thanks to the Beetle. Probably would not have dune buggies such as the Meyers Manx either, come to think of it.

And Mercedes, if we're sticking to car manufacturers. That's on account of Porsche working for them, and on account of them (along with Auto Union) taking "Nazi money" every year to dominate motorsport leading up to the Second World War. "Legendary Silver Arrows" indeed.

Add Renault to the list. Not to mention BASF, Siemens or SNCF (French railway company). Wars are dirty by nature, fortunes are made in shame but the Beetle is just a car — and one of the greatest and most cherished of all time. Last time I checked this was 2012 and GT5 was just a game.

Tough question, think I'll buy two. Leave one stock, customize the other. Then go online.

I'll have a few:

-one stock in black colour.

-one dark green that looks stock but is extremely low with stock wheels and modifyed like a hot street/cruise car.

-a blue or yellow one modifyed as a German-look Beetle, lowered, powerful engine and racing suspension with Porsche-looking wheels.

-a red one setup for drag racing, Brazilian style (BR-look).

-and last but not least, a white one to resemble as close as possible the 1972 German Beetle I used to own (one of the last German made swing axle ones) with a twin port, twin carby 1600 engine (photo below).

To all the haters who only want Aventadors , GT-Rs, Ferraris, and the like, you are missing out on a lot of what GT is all about. Sure, the fast exotics are fun, but if the we only had fast exotics, it may as well be an arcade racer.

As someone who bought the original Gran Turismo on the week it came out, I'll tell you that the most revolutionary thing the series has done is to provide a mix of both exotics and everyday cars. Cars that are familiar to everyone, ones that you might see everyday, or perhaps ones that you've driven or owned. The exotics are still very important, of course, but they are made that much more special and impressive when placed alongside more familiar cars as a reference. The Beetle is still one of the most-produced and sold cars in the history of the automobile, and rightfully deserves it's place as a premium car in GT5.

Like most of the positive commenters here, I'll buy one to leave untouched, and one to modify. Exactly what modifications or what style I'll try will depend on available wheels and aero mods.

I highly doubt we'll get any new wheels that we don't already have, so EMPIs or Fuchs are out. VOLK TE37s, CE28s or RE30s would look horrible. Maybe some Torq-Thrusts, or BBS LM-Rs.

Some sweet pastel teal or blue (I used to own a pristine '79 Mk1 Rabbit in this very colour):

Yes.

As with all the recent DLC cars; I have seen lobbies where no tuned Golfs, Sciroccos, etc. were allowed; therefore, and especially now where we can buy them straight from the NCD (once purchased thru DLC) it is always good to have two of 'em ^^

Cheers,
eK

@boshuter I feel you dude My uncle had a bug and we drove that thing in the dirt sand streets and wherever we could. It was a blast a fun car, but it's cool to love a car and you don't have to down another one to justify you passion. That Lambo, if you've read or seen any info on this car ( road and track got it 0-60 in 2.8 secs) it`s just no comparison.

Sums up my thoughts exactly. 👍 Blue one looks so good, how I wish GT5 had 5 spoke Fuchs rims

nothing, its a stupid car already in. probably only crash it or something (maybe painting, testing for tuning)
Call it stupid, but it's a legend in the history of automobiles. And it's sexy!

Maybe some Torq-Thrusts

I've put those on 2 of my Sambas, painted them Silver Chrome which makes it an acceptable alternative, although different obviously, for Fuchs in my opinion, arguably even better looking.

I learned how to drive stick in my mom's 78' Super Beetle. I think I should invest in a set of pedals that includes a clutch..

Probably lower it as much as possible and check out the wheel and aero options. Then I'll probably put the "Pasteltone" colours from the Paint DLC to good use

I was so freaking excited when I saw the VW. Probably the best in the list.

The Aventador is awesome, and I would love to see it in GT5 but... nah... All I see is another supercar with an incorrect sound sample that will be overused by many.

But again, that Beetle... I just cam imagine how many hours in photomode I would spend with it. And which wheels would I choose. I just hope it has the same sound than the Samba Bus. It's one of the most realistic sound samples in the game. I love it!

i like all cars but not this one (its already standard why pay for premium)

It's NOT the standard version being upgraded to Premium status.

The standard Käfer is from '49, whereas the new one is from '66! It's not the same car fgs!

I'll buy two of them, I keep one as stock and second Beetle will be powerful machine

Yes but lets but honest, the differences from a modelling point of view aren't huge are they?
