The almighty VW Beetle 1200 '66, what are you going to do first?

First thing I will do is be utterly disappointed when it fails to sound like a real Beetle. And then be mad that it can't be RM'd into a drag Bug or a Baja Bug. Finally I'll declare that this car caps the trifecta of VW blah'ness.

Hopefully I'm wrong and PD made this car to be "fun" and uses it as a benchmark for a redesigned engine sound replication system.

One thing I have learned as a GT fan is to not get my hopes anywhere near "up".

I think I would like to modify my Beetle in GT5 like we do in Brasil, for drag racing! Like this:

Or maybe something like this:

A true car lover appreciates all cars for what they are. The Beetle was truly revolutionary. It brought motoring to the masses, for the first time the average worker could afford a car. The Beetle should really be applauded for what it is.

It has its roots way back in the times of nazi germany. Because of this i will never ever drive one of these, not in rl or gr5. Its a great addition i have to admit

Guess you'll never drive a Porsche either then, or Ruf for that matter.

LOL i hope u will never drive on the Autobahn, because it was hitler's idea :nervous:

Yes, Hitler asked for a "Volkswagen", but you have to separate the automotive industry from the Nazi regime. The car was designed by Ferdinand Porsche for purely civilian use, it was thought to be a cheap car with good quality and high functionality, designed for high speeds (100 km/h) on the Autobahn. Hardly any cars were produced before the end of the war and it was actually the British army that got the production running, by placing an order of 20 000 cars after the war.

And the idea of a "volkswagen" is not something unique for Nazi Germany, in fact most of the 1950's revolved around the idea of building affordable and practical cars for ordinary people. The Volkswagen Beetle is not more Nazi than the very idea that every family should have a car.

LOL i hope u will never drive on the Autobahn, because it was hitler's idea :nervous:

Or a Fiat, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari or Chrysler for that matter, because the FIAT group was seized by Mussolini and made military equipment (tanks and aircrafts) for the fascist regime and for Germany during the war.

Put 3.0l porche engine in it....too bad that is not possible with GT. Maybe I just keep it original then.

The VW Beetle is as British as the current Mini is German. There would be no Beetle but for British (and American) intervention, so let's drop all the Nazi talk.

If I decide to buy this DLC, then I'll strip the guts out of it and replace it with Porsche running gear and engine and drop a block of concrete in the front.* That's the only thing you can and should do with a Beetle...

{Cy}

* - I know its not possible to do this in the game, but I would if I could...

Great minds and all that...

Funny thing is, although a lot of the Autobahn has been rebuilt, some parts are still in the same condition they had back in 1937 or so.

Anyway. VW Käfer? There can only be one.

HERBY TO THE RESCUE!

This has to be the saddest thing I've read today.

+1

Inclusion of classic iconic car as a premium a year after release is what GT is all about - the love of all types of car.

The variety of vehicles in GT5 is what makes me play it more than any previous incarnation and I've been here since GT1 on release day.

But come on.....there is a premium Jag XJR9 in there AS WELL!! Awesome.

Hope you don't drive Fords...

What am I going to do? Wait. Wait until I get myself to the PSN store and buy all of the DLC.

After that I might tune it to rally or something similar. Low weight, and maybe a good amount of power after fully tuned. It would be perfectly for the Eiger Norwand K Trail.

The only ones that are really questionable is the the kubelwagen and schwimmwagen, as they were built for Nazi military purposes, using slave labour.

But this is very different. Distanced quite someway from it's beginnings.

Oh, the irony. How is life in Francoist Spain these days..??

You can, with the ballast setting.

This is entirely true, but probably unnecessary in GT5. I went to school with a chap whose older brother converted Bugs for a living. It was necessary to add weight up front to counter the effects of strapping a 911 engine to the rear...

That is history. To hide the truth is very questionable.

Talking about the third Reich is actually quite a no go in Germany. Don't talk about it, don't write about it, don't even think about it. However, the countries around Germany are way more relaxed about that.

I went to France for the first time in 2003 or so and saw a comic shop. The first comic I saw after I walked in was about Hitler not being successful at the Olympic games (as a participant). This comic would've been banned from stores immediately (if someone would've released it) in Germany and the creator would've spent some years in jail. It's history and nobody can change it, sadly.

Anyway, the Käfer is going to be awesome. Enough politics. :)

Now that is just a load of crap, Mr. K.

It's by all means not a no go to talk about the Third Reich. Most people (even elderly) in Baden-Württemberg and Bayern don't have a problem being confronted with the Third Reich...

I'm doing a social year here in Germany and I drive mostly old people from home to hospitals ad vice-versa. Those kind of people are quite open and talk about with no problem. The following generations do not have a problem with talking about it as well.

I love old Bug. Good to see it in premium.

I see in Mexico it's called Vocho and I'm wondering do other countries have their own names for it and what do they mean?
In Poland we call it "Garbus", which means "Humpback".

And to that guy who says it's evil nazi mobile. Poland hate nazis and Hitler, probably more than other nations, but we love old Bug! Even in my small hometown there is annual Bug meeting where about 100 of those gather together. No matter if it was approved by Hitler, it's iconic and great car, so get over it.

Nice to know man :) Here in Brazil its called Fusca. The Official name was VW Sedan, but it becomes Fusca and it's like that forever.

Also without Hitler, I might be Russian :)(germans helped us against soviet union)

Kleinbus with porsche engines can do funny wheelies btw (go to youtube)

IDK one person here in Brazil who doesn't love the Fusca. Man, I would die to have a Baja one.

My young brother had a Baja on our countryhouse. When it rained a lot, in the summer, we used to do some major riot and fun in the mud. We almost felt down into a house that was beside the road one time. :scared:

Fun, fun moments! Any Beetle (perhaps 1500cc+), in the rain, on the asphalt... its fun! 2nd gear, steer, clutch kick... woohooo!!! :dopey:

Was more speaking about the media, you know. Call of Duty 1 is blacklisted because of the swastikas, for example. Not about people, not much of a problem. :)

I myself like the original beetle. I would love to have a beetle in my dream garage with my '65 'stang '65 'vette, evo 9, 04 Impreza WRX STI and Godzilla. The beetle may be old and slow, but it is one of most famous vehicles in the world.

Here in Portugal it's the carocha (= beetle); fusca is slang for pistol/gun!

You'd never be Russian; you might have been a Soviet for a while - if you're over 20 years old... :)
