One I'm gonna tune to race, one I'm gonna stylize (might be a stance-ho for that) and one I'm gonna keep stock.

I won't lie... being premium and all I'll probably spend more time looking at, and taking pics of the beetle rather than drive/race it. I just have no desire to race one. I wonder what the allowable mods will be and what aero, if any, will be.

@Mr. S:

Ok, I thought you were talking about Germans in general. The assumption that the media being shy discussing the Third Reich is right. :) Have fun with the Käfer!

@alonsof1fan

So if you are german, then why would you insist on not using the Käfer, huh?
In school we are teached that Hitler hasn't done horrible stuff exclusively. (Geography and History)

This is just stupid to ignore something so tremendously important to Germany/the automotive world because of it being a car Hitler was (slightly) involved in. That is ignorant.

If you would drive to Berlin, wouldn't you also use the Autobahn because it was Hitler's work?
C'mon...

Drive it stock for Nordschleife Lap time challenge, for 20 laps or so, until the engine burns the oil in it.
I may have to change the horn on it, depending on how it sounds. I will also paint it old ugly country bathroom sink colour. Then I will park it unwashed.

It has its roots way back in the times of nazi germany. Because of this i will never ever drive one of these, not in rl or gr5. Its a great addition i have to admit

Hitler and his shenanigans aside, it's those bloody warmongering hippies and surfdudes who really ruined the reputation of this car.
The Beetle is pure evil no matter how you put it, just look at its menacing appearance which is enough to make toddlers cry, it's not created by the Nazis but by their master Beelzebub personally.

Seriously though, what has this car done to deserve this? Are we still going to bring its roots to the table as an argument and conveniently forgetting it's been through every conceivable and frankly opposite context in the past 60 or so years?

Cant wait to see more in-game screenshots of the Beetle, I hope some leak before the launch of the car pack!!

To all the hippies saying they wont drive it because it was Hitler's idea. I guess you should forget all the information you have learned about outer space or stop watching tv broadcast off of satellites because If not for the Nazi's and their rocket scientist America would not have won the space race. We used Werner Von Braun the chief Nazi rocket scientist to design the rocket that took us to the moon. In fact the Germans where in charge of that program it was their scientists and their ingenuity that got us to the moon not ours. You owe allot more to the Nazi's than you think. Color TV, VW, Porsche, Mercedes (would not have lasted without their funding), The rotary engine, Bugatti, Audi, Modern highway systems, To freaking much to list. I hate to break it to you all but the Nazi's where possibly the greatest inventors of the 20th century.

You are so true! I never thought about Nazis in that way 👍

the beetle was a stolen design anyway.... how ironic that they now own the company they stole the design from.....

I hope, but I doubt, that you'll be able to tune it so that it produces a decent amount of low-range torque so you can drift it. Problem is, the other classic VWs and the Fiat 500 were so incredibly slow without turbocharging and so laggy with turbos, I think this Beetle will be the exact same.

Still, the first thing I'm going to do is see if the bumper is removable like it is on the 300SL, then check out how well it drifts with and without tuning. Then I'll switch to the AM V12 and drift that with probable success.

It's probably better to think about it in the sense of Germans (and surrounding nationalities; it was all still a bit of a mess back then, hence the "unrest") under the Nazi regime. People are not their administration, nor that of their neighbours.

Not exactly stolen when he designed both.

Wikipedia
Like its cousin, the Volkswagen Beetle (which Ferdinand Porsche Senior had designed), the 356 was a four-cylinder, air-cooled, rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive car utilizing unitized pan and body construction

No, Tatra isn't owned by Volkswagen, I asked since I think he meant Porsche which didn't even exist as a company before or during WW2 (it was established after) and surely even if it did, Ferdinand Porsche designed both the Beetle and was the founder of Porsche so how could Volkswagen steal an idea from Ferdinand Porsche when he actually made the original Volkswagen in the first place?

That's what Hitler's contribution consisted of. He supposedly said of the T97 "this is my car for the people", or something to that effect. Porsche obliged.

:lol: "And make it a bit smaller so Eva can park it too".

It was originally a KDF, in the 30's.

Yep, Kraft Durch Freude, or 'strength through joy', a meaningless and grimly ironic slogan.
