Yeah, that's just Scaff's opinion, not fact, he says notably Ferrari have a different damage model to other manufacturers in FM..

Here's a couple of images I took that pretty much show this to be untrue.

LOL at the bonnet though, it seems to have grown by a foot as the wing length has stayed the same!..

Looks like you got some free air conditioning there as well. No need to wash the windows anymore 👍

Comparing that to something like Colin Mcrea Dirt 2, that damage model is a bit feeble. Can't complain though, GT's wasn't the best...

That's because GT doesn't have any damage. The damage modeling is up to the car manufacturers.

It may not be the best looking/most extreme visual damage, but I can't think of any other game that has more realistic mechanical damage.

Hrm... post withdrawn because I misread the above. Being unfamiliar with the CMcR series, I'll hold judgment.

I read the live TGS blog and there was a section in the conference where KY talked about physics and damage, but because we know how the bloggers are very vague does anyone have more detailed information on what he said about damage?

Im hoping that March 2010 will give them time to put decient damage on all cars like in every other driving game on the market!

They need to do that now, how to explain an half year deley of a game thats "finished" ?

It would be good to see some F458 damage shots or video, see if anything has improved from Gamescom.

Im still after details about what KY said with regards to damage at TGS, for all we know he could have said damage on all cars now!

Kaz mentioned damage in a general way and left it hanging, so it's about time for some interviews to take place. Maybe this evening we'll get a few with The Man. He really needs to say something, because there are a lot of disgruntled fans out here, especially with GT5 missing Christmas after all. In fact, one of the best things he can say right now is "Prologue Spec IV."

Oh, I thought you were talking about releasing another Prologue. If it's an update I guess that's fine as long as they don't have to sit down and decide what content they're gonna release, build it, test it, etc.

Hey, I'm definitely with you on not adding ANY more roadblocks to GT5's release, believe me. I'm still miffed on SONY forcing GTPSP on us first, but I won't grouch at the PSP fans about it. SONY itself though... man, I'd love to twist some fingers there...

Heres the IGN video of the Ferrari F458 at TGS taking damage. Its seems to be pretty much the same level as what we saw at Gamescom but the paint seems to come off much easier. No bumpers coming off though.

and a new Subaru vid, more of the the same.

i think the Ferrari and Subaru damage ties in with the whole premium/standard sfuff again, Maybe standard cars have scratches and stuff and race cars would get full on damage but both have the same amount of mechanical damage?

Might just be me, but the Ferrari looked like it had a slightly bent front end.

Well, seems we're getting same ugly damage as FM players. I'm not extatic about it, but something got calmed down inside me after seeing this. If it's on all cars and every car in the race will get damaged, also internally, that's one box cleared on my checklist.

Hopefully the damage textures will get vastly improved, because now they are more than ugly. It's hard to look at them without your eyes bleeding.

Some new WRC damage shots, I have to say they look pretty poor, especially if you look at transition from the non damged areas to the damaged bits on the front of the Subaru. Looks like a low res grey sticker!

According to UK gamespot, two damage types are confirmed: 1. for road cars, and 2. for racing cars/rally/nascar. Road cars will have scratches and deformation at specific areas. The other type of damage will have more intense damage that will include falling off of parts due to violent situations. Mechanical damage for both is also confirmed.

Referring to damage specifically, Yamauchi mentioned some details about the how damage will work in the game. There will be two types of damage in the game, depending on the car you're driving. For regular production model cars, you'll be able scuff the paint job as well as deform specific areas of the cars. For race model cars, like WRC and NASCAR models, damage will be extended to include parts falling off the car during particularly violent shunts.

As much as I appreciate the work that went into the parts falling off damage, the doors and hatchs flapping open on race cars (especially combined with apparently unbreakable windows) really bothers me.

Aren't race cars bolted or welded so that doors and stuff don't flop open? Maybe I am wrong but that's how I thought it worked anyway...

Not exactly. There has been real life incidents where a race car encountered enough contact that the door would never shut back close.

That depends on the race car, but I can assure you that WRC cars (as we see here) have fully working passenger doors.

Is that the norm or the exception that both doors can be floppy open... maybe I just don't watch enough car sports but I always got the feeling that the doors in race cars were virtually unopenable...

Rally cars may be an exception, Im not sure, but both doors in rally cars open.

Now when I see a NASCAR door come open I will be floored. (they have NO door )

The more I think about it, I'm starting to care less and less about damage. After seeing some of these new screen shots the game looks amazing. I rather have PD working on adding weather and day/night cycles. I think until we get more realistic damage I can live with out the damage in GT5. To me the subdued damage effect doesn't really compliment the quality of how the game looks. I might change my mind when I finally get to see deformation on the cars. Some might think it's cheezy but i like the spark effects in GTPSP.
