Is that the norm or the exception that both doors can be floppy open... maybe I just don't watch enough car sports but I always got the feeling that the doors in race cars were virtually unopenable...

In most motorsports with closed top cars or production based vehicles, The doors do open. Only exceptions that come to mind are Nascar stock cars, Late models and sprint cars.

According to UK gamespot, two damage types are confirmed: 1. for road cars, and 2. for racing cars/rally/nascar. Road cars will have scratches and deformation at specific areas. The other type of damage will have more intense damage that will include falling off of parts due to violent situations. Mechanical damage for both is also confirmed.

What about dents??? We saw one in the first gt5 teaser. In this interview they only mention parts coming off...which we already saw in the demos.

I don't know where to put this but do we know if the force feedback got any better with the dfgt?? It's supposed to be 100% compatible with the game...

I think deformation counts as dents. As for falling off, I think they mean the parts actually fall off to the tracks, instead of just hanging around like the GC/TGS demo. It's hard to tell what they really mean though.

And sorry, but I have no idea about the DFGT, but since it's suppose to be the official wheel (and PD helping its development), it better be.

It sounds to me like they are saying at least some panels can get dented on all cars, but only race cars will have pieces actually dislodging.

It also sounds like the description of modeled interiors did mean engines as they way it's said it sounds like only some cars have parts falling off because then you can see into the guts of the car and this takes time to model.

Right that's what I thought too.

About that, I'm a little curious because on one of the pictures we saw, it looked like they're designing the engine for the SLR, which is a roadcar. Unless the engine wasn't SLR's and a race car's.

I'm not aware of any race series with road cars, homologated road cars or even silhouettes where the cars' doors cannot be opened. NASCARs, for example, don't actually have doors...

I can't think of even one race I've watched where I saw an impact causing a door to open ( although I'm sure it's atleast possible ). Nevermind both doors and the trunk AND the hood all simultaneously. The odds of that are infinitesimal.

I'm still a bit fuzzy on the issue. Has KY said WHY he decided to make two separate damage models and not just one for all cars?

I rarely watched motorsports on T.V., but when I do see an impact from the side, I see the doors latch open all of the time. I don't know if that was how it happened from the GC/TGS demo though.

As for the hood, a lot of racing games have simulated that effect, and it makes perfect sense really. Any hard hit from the front could easliy make that latch on the hood loose. I'd be more surprised if the hood stayed intact.

All I can remember is Kaz saying something about how the manafactures are limiting the damage PD can do to their road cars.

He said that for the cars with bits falling off they have to model whats underneath those bits and it takes too much time to do it for every single car so they did it for the race cars... Also I'd imagine he'd have restrictions from certain manafacturers.

Well, Kaz said that what we're seeing at TGS represents about two months of work, but he never said it was the last two months. They could've put in two weeks of work on it four years ago.

Good point. I was just pondering out loud.

Nevertheless, in a race car where the structural points are reinforced with a safety cage, the bits that open and close are the weakest links. In a road car an impact is more likely to jam a door shut as the surrounding structure deforms, but in a race car an impact is more likely to pop a door open as it remains intact.

Also, enough with the double-posting already. I've told you several times in several threads and you acknowledged it. We have enough to deal with without having to merge every double-post as well. I would honestly hate to give someone an Infraction that carries them over their point limit for repeated double-posting every bit as much as I'd hate having to do the same for someone who was just too lazy to use the shift key every now and then. But there's only so many times I'm willing to tidy up after you.

Day-night cycle is in.
Rain is in.
Tire wear is in.
Tire temperature is in. (mentioned in the video)

>> Is there still a chance for a Christmas release ?
To answer your question, it's not delayed. We never officially announced it for 2009. But I understand you're dissappointed.

>> How far is the game ?
The game is finished if all you want to do is take a car and drive. But for the actual game experience, we're at 65%

>> I tried the demo, the cars don't fully deform. Not even when crashing really hard.
We're still working on that. We still have a lot of work to do in that department.

>> What about online ? Will there be race events like in Prologue ?
Prologue worked like an open match. In GT5, there will be private zones for your friends.

>> Will there be more series other than NASCAR and GT500* What about F1 ?
I have always wanted as much championships in the game as possible. That's why we now have Nascar and WRC. But I want all of them.
It's difficult to get all the F1 teams.

>> What about other single seaters ?
Possible.

>> Have you seen Forza 3 ? What do you think of the game ? Have you played it ? Did you take notes or stay focused on GT ?
Our challenge is to improve every GT based on the previous release. But competition is good.

>> Earlier I saw an interesting G-force graphic. Will that be in the final game ?
Do you want it in ?

>> Yes
Then I'll leave it in.

From the way he tells it Will we actually see damage from the tires or tires getting flat or torn to pisces or ruptured? Or wheels will fly out of the car just like in actual nascar and rally racing or GT racing? Or smokes and skid marks?

As great as this sounds, from most of the interviews that I've seen it seems that they have only been working on the engine for that last four months and not four years (damage integration being last two months). Think about it for a second, at gamescon we saw a lot of glitches and bugs. If the game engine were to have been developed for that last four years wouldn't we expect to seen a huge leap in performance during TSG? I believe that they have been modeling for that last four years and only focusing on non-damage modeling at that to get the 1000 cars and 20/70 tracks. For a game to be 45% incomplete tells me that the damage-engine was simply not addressed and that the last demo showcased the lasted tech-demo of the development process. Hopefully, if the they crank out a better game engine, we will see the game early fall/late winter

Not so much.

Read the posts before yours.

Well, it seems to me it probably was. All we saw from E3 was a "concept video" and that had deformations. But then months later (Gamescom ) we saw ingame footage and there was no deformation. Then a month after that ( TGS ) and still no deformation.

The E3 concept vid probably was a little bit of smoke and mirrors.

Like the GTPSP adds?

I believe KY said in one interview that the E3 video was concept video as in this is a CGI of what we are aiming for.

He also said it was real. Aren't you the one bringing up things being lost in translation? Yet now you're using something that was translated to bash someone else... Bad form... 👎

Just a quick bump to talk about the new as-yet unpublished video, sounds awesome to be honest.

the description is on the main page!

Well, we haven't seen the video, just the subjective description of it (and not a very detailed one), so I don't see what are we going to talk about.
