about that citroen going through corvette.. If that really happened there than there is no physics in that video.. Killzone 2 E3 2005 anyone?

Never seen a car ghost on GT5p? :) But could be whatever..

Thats a pretty good observation, i thought the same.
BUT Killzone 2 2005 was pre-rendered in everything, while this looks (except for AA ant the shadows) exactly like GT5P, so theyve used in-game assets and put it together in to a trailer.

Tsukuba part and WRC part was certainly CGI, you can see it on the first look. And antialiasing looks so much better in the trailer. Antialiasing is the worst thing in GT5:P, because they say that it's in, but I can't see it, only thousands of pixels on the edges, in the front grills, in the fences, just everywhere. I am really curious how they solve this in full GT5.

None of it is CGI.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but what are the chances damage can be repaired in the pits do you think? If there are animations for damage repair that'd be cool to watch.

The Subaru damage scene was REAL TIME FOOTAGE.

Gran Turismo 5
With close to 50 million units shipped, the Gran Turismo franchise is a big deal, even outside of gaming. The fifth full title has been in production for a long, long time now, so the fact that we finally got to see the game in action was a great thing. The fact that the amazing footage was all realtime made it even more talked about.

I'm sure the WRC part wasn't CGI, If you look at the dash of the Subaru at the in-car view part just before it crashes, you can see that it says it is in gear 0, and is doing 999 mph. If it was CGI that error wouldn't have been in there. It was probably in-game footage from before they configured the dash.

Yeah thats a good point, they wouldnt have had that error if it was CGI.

I always thought the entire trailer was realtime, minus the fighter jets. But I guess IGN says it all real, that means the amazing damage is also real!

hopefully its all realtime, that damage looked so good, especially as thats the first GT cosmetic damage we have ever really seen, which reminds me, I was playing GT4 the other day, and washed my skyline, I know that it helps the down force of the car, but if cars get as dusty as in that trailer, the car wash will make a bigger difference.

The Fighter jets that flew over the lemans race in GT4 were realtime

Only parts of the trailer I have doubts about being real time are the scenes with the flags blowing.

Every thing else looked real time, but as someone else mentioned they probably used showroom car models, which have more AA and overall look better then in game models.

Right now I'm wondering if pieces of the cars will be able to come completely off. Will hoods just crumple up, or with enough damage will they come off?

It appears they modeled the engine, so a hoodless car won't look bad.

Or maybe the trailer just isn't absolutely perfect? We can't just come to these conclusions after seeing 2 minutes of imperfect footage.

I agree with this. As with many of GT's trailers, one of the easiest things to notice is that the sound for the cars isn't always accurate, and that the sound is actually arguably much better in the trailers than it is in game.

For example, I think there is a sound thread in these forums regarding this same trailer, and many people have pointed out the SLR having a turbo sound, or that the race cars on the top gear test track didn't seem accurate either, and I agree with this. The sounds in GT's trailers have always sounded better than it is in game (so far) as far as quality goes, even though it may not be representing the accurate car the sound makes...they are getting better with the in-game sounds though IMO.

Same thing with the damage or the in-car speedometer. There may be portions that don't seem to add up....but the only thing we have to go on regarding GT5 is this trailer, and I DO believe we have a lot more coming, and I have complete faith in PD. I also believe the trailer is real-time as well.

Still a lot of unanswered questions...but at least it'll keep us going until we get more info later on.

To what extent do you think damage will hinder a car???

id be well frustrated if I or B-spec crashed in a 24h and couldnt continue... especially if I was like 20 hours in. I know "thats racing" but were playing for fun...

im sure you can deactivate it if you want to... i dont know of any game, regardless on which plattform, where thats not possible

I mean there are standard-physics - they do know not everybody playing gt is a hardcore race enthuiast

What I'm wondering now

- Will it be possible to DNF and not finish a race? Hopefully

- Will it cost money to repair damaged cars?

- Can cars be damaged beyond repair? I would love to have a museum of wrecked cars in a separate garage, with perhaps a photo or video to go along with each car showing what happened!

- Will the cars (or at least race cars) be able to flip over?

- How much will damage affect peformance and car's driveability? Will a damged hood slow your top speed down? Will damge to the rear of a racecar hurt it's rear aero?

- How long will it take to fix damage in the pits?

- If damaged enough will parts of the cars fall off?

- With damage to the car, will there be damage to parts of the engine (dropping a valve and losing a cylinder), transmission (losing gears) or flat spotting tires?

- How much has the AI improved to deal with damage? Before when they bumped you it was just annoying. Now it will cost you!

- How will damage on openwheel cars look like? The tires have to come off or at least get crumpled up with the wheel tethers holding them on.

Seeing that this is the first PD game with damage, all of these are unknown factors and could go either way

*puts flame shield up* ok, whats with people and cars being able to flip over. I mean every website i go on it is "still no flipping cars" "LUL, OMG GRAn TUR1SMO HAV NO FLIPPIN CARTS LIK NO WAY" seriously, care to elaborate

I'm not like that, flipping cars are probably feature #134 I want in GT5, meaning there is 133 other things I would like to see in the game first

I was just wondering if the cars would flip or not. While flipping is very rare in alot of motorsports (and why if its not included it wont be a big deal to me) its common (relatively speaking) in NASCAR. So with the inclusion of NASCAR I'm wondering if PD has opened themselves to the possibility of flipping cars

I think it has something to do with Turn 10 making a big deal out of it when they were demonstrating Forza. While it might seem like a minor detail, there are some folks think that unless the physics model is able to accurately handle flipping cars, it can't be called a simulation racing game. I understand where they are coming from, but there are different levels of simulation, and my preference is for the actual driving physics to be as close to realistic as possible before concerns like these are addressed.

so once again its the blame to Turn-10 and their "god-like" Forza 3. They are really just trying to get at least one thing over Gran Turismo. They are so pathetic

The sad thing is all the propaganda Turn 10 is putting out there actually affects people believe it or not.

One of the comments in response to the Turn 10 guys blasting PD said that Forza innovated the cockpit view, damage, and custom liveries.

They're really that brainwashed

I won't be surprised if GT5 doubles the sales of Forza 3

btw, 99% of the crashes I've been involved in GT5p would not have had the car flip over if it was real life

It's only a major possibility at the high speed oval tracks

But if you believe Forza 3 physics a Ford GT brushing a wall at 60mph = 10 barrel rolls and 25 feet of airtime

PD and Sony could blow away Forza 3 by announcing GT5's release date and revealing at least some of it's cars and features.

Until that time Turn 10 have the upper hand and are winning the PR battle.

it does not matter what Failza does, it will will NEVER beat gt

Rollovers is something that, while it can happen, it doesn't happen that often because it's pretty hard to do (unless you're moving at an insane speed and trying). I'd like it to happen in the situations where it would in real life, but it's not something Turn 10 should really be bragging about. It's like bragging about having spinners...

I bet Turn 10 is gonna make it to be so exaggerated just so they can keep bragging about it that it's gonna look fake...flipping cars at the drop of a hat...

F___ flipping cars. I thought racing games are made to race???? Big deal if they are flipping cars unrealistcly. I bet you those forza fans are going to be pissed when they keep flipping their cars when it really shouldn't be happening. But i'm not here to fight. I think we should enjoy our racing game/SIMULATOR and not worry about the competion jus like P.D. or at least Kaz

I say anything that adds to the realism of the game is a plus. Be it flipping, damage, skid marks, reverse lights, etc. From the FM3 videos I've seen with the Turn 10 guys who tried to flip their cars but were unsuccessful, I'd say that sounds pretty realistic.

Some interesting inside (guy from Turn10) info about manufacturers demands when you want to damage their cars:

I don't blame you for not knowing, but here are the manufacturer "limits" that you speak of: Depictions of driver death (having the guy fly through the windshield, physical violence, etc.), and the car catching on fire and exploding.

Anything other than that is free game in terms of licensing approvals based on your relationship with the manufacturer. I'm going to assume PD have pretty deep pockets and long standing relationships. There's really no other excuse unless Yamauchi wants to have decapitated drivers and exploding cars for production models.

Speaking as a fan, I'm hoping damage will be on all 800 of their cars and not just race cars.
