Hmmm... I think I'm seeing some alignment problems with the subbie after that big hit by the evo. The car seems to be shimy-ing from left to right. Suspension might be busted up. I'm not too sure about it, ill give it another closer look.

Anyone else notice?
Yes, the first time I watched the video actually. 👍

Not sure if it only looks like it though.

What you are missing is that it looks like the kind of damage Colin Macrae rally had about 10 years ago - anybody can make a bumper flap in the wind and a bonnet flip up.

Actually the majority of racing games I play don't have bonnets flip up and bumpers flap in the wind (and I play everything from Burnout to DiRT to Gran Turismo). Plus comparing GT5 to a decade old PS1 game is a bit harsh.

The video is a JOKE!!

Please let this not be the final product!!!!

Ok, please make such a video, but the car has to be a yellow Pagani Zonda, it should have "GTPlanet" as a number plate, and should have your nickname written on the side in Arial font. You have 24 hours before I start saying bad things about you ;)

The lesson here is - stop making stupid comments you can't even back up (on a side note, if craste does make the video, I will apologize and speak only good of him in forums). That is seriously annoying.

Everyone can go out there and say - oh wow, that video was total s***, but it isn't really considered "constructive criticism", is it?

After reading through this entire thread I realize that many of you are correct. This game is going to completely suck. I can tell from a poor quality 2 minute video, without sound to boot, taken from a small demo (which may even have a disclaimer about not being the finished product when you first start it up) that Gran Turismo 5 will be the laughing stock of the gaming world. I am now completely out of my mind with anger that they could treat me like this!!! They owe me gorramit!

I am selling my PS3 and giving up on Gran Turismo games. I am buying a 360 and playing Forza for life. I mean, the Forza demo didn't have all the final features, but that doesn't matter because Turn 10 and Microsoft are clearly much more professional companies and would never make their game seem like it is bigger than it is. It isn't as if they claimed to have the largest car list of any racing game this generation, or anything asinine like that.

I'm probably leaving GTPlanet too. I feel like joining the Forza fan sites where they don't have people like Famine that attempt to insert something like logic and facts into the discussion. Those have no place in my ranting anger laden comments.

I suggest everyone else who is unhappy and extremely upset with Polyphony Digital follow my lead and DON'T BUY THE GAME.

[/sarcasm] - except for the bolded bit.

^That crashed Subbie image looks awesome. What's there to complain about a first attempt from PD when it already looks great?

@FoolKiller: :lol:

UnoMOTO : Great video! 👍

But I think we need a ps5 for that kind of damage

I did go a bit over the top to prove a point. I certainly don't expect that to be in the final product by the way. For the sake of conversation, I like the direction PD is going and I am very excited for the future of the series. I’m just not going to hide the fact that I was expecting more to this point in the development in the game. We all have different levels of expectations.

I'm probably leaving GTPlanet too.

Can I have your parking spot?!

Foolkiller certainly has a point there.

I wonder how many hundred pages of speculation this crowd will be able to produce ;)

Why wouldn't you want logic and facts in your discussions, that would just be ranting & raving then wouldn't it ?.

Hahaha Love it. :sly:

I'd just like to say that I never cared about having damage. What I cared about, and I know it's something that's been brought up by many, was collision physics. And I know there hasn't been any video showing footage from the finished game, but the collisions look like they've looked in all GT's from the past. I am worried that we'll have silly collisions with our bumpers falling off. My other worry is they don't fix that obvious problem of the hood staying half way up during the final 30 seconds or so of the clip. You'd think it would flip back against the windshield or break off or something. I mean, I'm still buying this game the day it comes out, but I'm worried now, and more so than I was anticipating greatness in the past few months. I'm excited to see some more clips.

All we want is damage on all cars, it's not like we are asking for a cure for cancer.

Edit: Although I wouldn't be that upset if they only had damage on only race cars, but having it on all would be awesome.

Really, where the hell did I say that, so far my only gripe has been the lack of damage on all cars. I honestly don't give a damn about weather or day/night cycles.

So before you put words in my mouth get some facts.

I don´t actually mind if it´s only racecars that have damage, but if that is the case there should be a clear line and separation between race- and roadcars. IE, I wouldn´t want the two to ever meet in the game.
On the other hand, why can´t they have a "raceconverter" and a livery editor, and thus have the possibility to have damage on just about all cars (can´t really see a working convertion for a Model-T)?

Did'nt put words in anybodys mouth. I did say you guys didnt I

Yep I did ............. so I didnt aim my comment at any one person

No, you put words in anyone's mouth that finds a fault in GT5. Which is everybody that isn't a fanboy.

You seriously need to calm down. Its just damage after all. You guys complain about almost everything in GT5 anyway.

What have I complained about other than damage?

BTW: You re directing that at me since you quoted my post.

The following was directed at you. The rest was at anyone else who picks the smallest insignificant detail to complain about.

You seriously need to calm down. Its just damage after all.

You realy got out the wrong side of the bed this morning.

:DCrazy idea but since some car companies sure enough might not want their cars damaged I think a loop hole could help out and what I'm getting at is modding your cars. In stock form your cars can't be damaged but once you put a body kit on it then it's subject for some abuse. I know it might sound crazy to have to spend money in the game to damage your cars but I think that would ease the mind of the auto companies who don't want their vehicles shown damaged. Now why PD doesnt have damage for all cars is anyone's guess, maybe they don't want to delay the game another year but I could careless really. I'm happy with race cars only having damage, lets just hope we get enough of them to damage :D

ALL I CARE about is that all RALLY, 'ENDURANCE racers' and NASCAR cars have damage and internal views, can't care less about the rest coz you only spend the first few hours on cheap cars anyway......

My question is: Why are they not able to include damage modeling for all vehicles? Is it because of the amount of work that goes into each model? Or is it because of their contracts/agreements with the manufacturers and they're just not allowed to render damage? But then why do games like Forza, GRID, etc have damage modeling for all their vehicles? Are these game developers getting preferential treatment from the manufacturers?

Also, I am really disappointed with damage system itself, considering they only have damage for a select few vehicles and they've had 5 years to work on this. There were a few times where the Impreza would run into a barrier and NOTHING would happen. GRID, which has been out for two years now, has far more advanced damage modeling than GT5.

It makes me wonder if perhaps this demo they had on display was more than a few months old and was just there to demostrate the graphical detail and inclusion of damage in GT. And maybe the final product will be polished and much more realistic that what we've seen.

Firstly  at Foolkiller's post!

Anyway, I think half the problem is that people expect to see **** like this, when in reality those things take days to compute on solver clusters...

People keep bringing up how other games have amazing damage...

GRiD: 1 2 etc... Top of the pile visually, in my opinion!
Colin McRae Rally 2005: Mac OSX Standard Codemasters fare, pre- DiRT / GRiD.
Colin McRae Rally 1: 1 This is the best I could come up with... Enough picking on Codemasters!
GTR Evolution: 1 Nothing "spectacular"
LFS: 1 2 3 Some cool, if questionably accurate, deformation, but no detachment etc.
Carmageddon 2: 1 2 Full deformation and detachment, ahead of its time! The 'tube
GTA IV: 1 2 Not strictly racing, but certainly above par for the current gen'. With mods
Forza 2: 1 2 Fairly average for the time
Forza 3: ?? End of this vid

Youtube is actually a better resource, but I'm bored now; just search for "[gamename] crash", lots of people seem to like crashing :P

So, basically we're not seeing the body panel deformation that was in the E3 video... yet (?) The detachable components are about average (ignoring any "issues" regarding effort/force required to remove them - Arcade mode!)

Whatever happens with the final game, I too am confident of a hack appearing at some point... That's assuming I'm right in thinking that all cars can (fundamentally) be damaged in the same way, due to their "modular" modelling technique.

That's very impressive. Thanks for the video, Ren-Tec. 👍 I was concerned that GT5's damage would fall below expectations when I first saw gameplay video, and while what we've seen certainly confirms what PD said a while ago about damage not being as severe as it would be in the real world (where a small impact can bend the suspension and make a car undriveable), the car sure looks realistically hard to drive after some impacts. Collision physics look vastly improved, too, although I think a hit to the bumper at speed should do more to destabilize the car than what we've seen. The way the non-solid barriers fly away is great, and unexpected for me. 👍
