Race Drive Grid still does the best licensed damage, also the way the impact sounds and the cinematic effects all add to the realism or the impression of more dramatic damage... something GT should take a page from. So motion blur, camera saturation, crushing glass and crumpling metal sounds would all improve the damage without any extra physical modelling.

Robin
Why people so serious about the damage. If you're a good driver, you would hardly crash.

You're wrong, do not generalize.
👍I didn't, Kazunori Yamauchi did.
I guess I'm the only one who can remember his quote LOL
In the final release of the game, I hope the visual damage is tied to mechanical damage, so that the level of damage seen in these demo pictures means that the cars handling and performance is severely limited or the race would have to be restarted. I think if PD allows cars with this level of damage to keep racing, then where getting into the territory of combat racers such as Burnout.
There will be no DNFs in GT5. KY said that the car manufacturers vehemently insistent that no matter what the car could never come to a complete stop. Its the same in Forza. I believe only race cars are exempt from this.

That's not good. Why have damage at all then?

Well its better than nothing. PD are at the mercy of the automotive companies. They are very anal about the "image" of their cars. You can be sure Ferrari and Lamborghini said that if you make our cars catch fire, our relationship will be permanently terminated.
Agreed Amar´s post... Even if you can´t deactivate damage in FM3, I must say I used the reverse function a few times, because after an 20 lap race, if you hit a wall in lap 19, you must restart... So I used the rewind, shame on me...
You see, you are not serious here.
99,9% of people want damage because they want damage.
In the other hand, 95% of those same people will never enable such an option in the single player because it can compromise their finshing position and they'll almost certanly skip all damage-enabled lobbies in Public races because they just want to win and nothing else.
So, in conclusion, damage is really important to only 5% of overall Gran Turismo potential players, because they will actually have some use of it, not just abuse it for purpose of stupid damage YouTube videos of horrid damage photos that will flood the nternet from 2nd November onwards.
However, it is very nice from PD that they've included this option despite that almost none of GT5's potential 5+ million buyers will actually use it.
btw...I have seen many people state that the car companies do not allow damage or do not allow their cars to stop running. If the statements is true how do the PC sims get around these restrictions? I can obliterate my lambo, ferrari, porsche, covette, solstice and cause them to stop running in those games.
edit...hypothesis, could it be that the car companies are not so concerned about the small sale figures of GTR, GTR2, iRacing? I am sure that GT and Forza3 have much much more numerous players!
