The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion---Discussion Thread

I'd rather wait for this disc than buying the GOTY edition but its still bonkers. The 360 version of GOTY comes with two discs while the PS3 version is all on one(thank Blu ray?). At least you get a disc and not stuck with a download for the same price.

Its supposed to be around 15 hours of gameplay added on, good luck doing that in one night. But, I guess this is just so those who already bought Oblivion dont have to buy an entire new game just to get the expansion. But Id just as soon trade in my oblivion and get store credit towards the GOTY edition so it will all be on one disk. And it includes all of the download content that was available on the x360 right?

im also wondering if you can use your old game saves...

Probably because it would take people days to download!

It was distributed that way on Live though correct. Unless Live is that much faster than the PSN I don't see download speed as really being much of an issue. Elsewhere someone mentioned that maybe Bethesda and Sony don't see eye to eye on the DRM question. I really don't know how much water that explanation holds though.

Shivering Isles is good, but it's not 15 hours of game play, it might be 5 at the most. I got it for the PC when it first came out way back when. Granted it adds some pretty good content to the game and I highly recommend getting it if you are into the series. I would be curious to see how looks on the console when compared to a PC. Also I'm rather surprised it took this long for it to be ported to a console, I figured the PS3 would have had an easier time then the 360 with it. It's definitely one of the more graphically challenging games I've seen.

With the expansion the quest line is rather strange and takes you to some really weird places and has you do some equally strange things. Like I said highly recommended.

Also did you guys get the new castle add-on for the game yet ported over? If you have I would save your money unless you are a warrior. The only reason I got it was because it was free for PC owners (maybe others?).

see this is what I was wondering about, the only add on we got with Oblivion was Knights of the Nine, we didn't get any of the "lairs" that are available for the PC and I haven't been able to figure out if this package contains them or not...

The Game of the Year edition should come with all the add ons, which are only worth it if you are really into the game. For the casual player they aren't really needed. Although I think the horse armour was and the stupidest add on ever.

i was meaning along the lines of: I would hire it out and put the content on the hard drive, as i suspect you will just plop the disc in once, put the data
on you hdd and be done with it...

this is another thing that doesn't make sense to me, they could easily loose out if people decide to just install and then sell the disk, I guess it could come with some sort of activation code but all thats doing is complicating things... Why not just have it come out as a download like on Live

That's what I did with the PC, me and 4 of my friends pitched in and bought the disc and just took turns installing it.

Also what I don't understand is that I find the PSN to be much faster then Live in the way of download speed and it has bigger files. I don't think you would ever see a 700MB download on Live.

Many demos are 1GB or so.

Really, wow where the hell have I been. I guess I only really ever get DLC for games and never really look into demos. Well forgive my stupidity and ignore my last post. Either way though I still feel PSN allows you to download quicker then Live does.

well on PSN i download 700meg's(GT5:P) in 1 hr(on release with mega traffic) and on XBL it takes roughly 18hrs to download the same(FM:2 demo a day or two after release, becouse it was unbarably slow on release lol, go figure). So for me PSN is atleast 18x faster:D

Alright, looks like the SI expansion is gonna make it to the PS Store after all:
Shivering Isles Hits PlayStation Store Next Week

Victory for PlayStation 3 owners: Bethesda has announced that Shivering Isles, the expansion pack for Oblivion, will be released on November 29 as a digital download.

Previously, the expansion had only been announced as a disc-based product, which seemed like a ridiculous kludge and painted PlayStation 3's network features in a poor light.

The disc version shipped to retail today.

What Bethesda hasn't announced yet is how much the download will cost. Hopefully it'll be less than the $30 they're asking for the disc version: After all, there's no cost of goods, overhead, retailer markup...

Doesn't really address the international plan though.

Imma bump this up, Anyone still play this game here?! What do you think about the combo of ether

Crusader or Assassin as a Khajiit?

I have the GotY edition but I haven't played it hardly at all with all my focus being on CoD4 and F1:CE when not at work. Back when I put around 30hrs into on the 360, meaning wayyyy back when the game was 1st released, I made what I called a "Samurai-Assassin" (contradiction in terms I know, I just like the sound of it ;) Dark Elf character. I think it would have proven quite effective had I stuck with it.

BTW there's some good character creation faqs on gamefaqs, here's the main one I used for reference back in the day:

Thanks icelt! Good to know you played! You should definatly pop it back in for awhile, you'll totally get addicted!

I really do like RPG's, and I really liked this one, but it never held my attention. I still have it, but i never ever play it. I dont know why, I think i was just a little lost, as there was like a million things i could do at any given time.

It's a great game and it still quite popular but you should be able to get it used I would think by now. Also if you can't afford it for the PS3 why not get it for the PC? I have to imagine it's cheaper on there and you have access to thousands of user made mods.

I tried it for the PC and...let's just say it fought with my computer as much as however much fighting we'll see in the Presidential Election of '08

Yeah I always wanted it for the computer, the graphics could possibily look better, but than after realizing that you really do need a BAD ASS computer to run this game, its worth it for the ps3...

Delirious, do you still play today?

I'm gonna keep the PC edition in the event I buy a new computer sometime within a year or two...I love elder scrolls too much, heck I'd rather play Morrowind if it were ever upgraded fully to Oblivion graphics

I never played Morrowind, Because it never came out for the ps2 nor ps3. I'm happy with Oblivion...

The games are possibily the best ever, there's just so much to do, even if you get board you can go do a guild or something, and re-play value is amazing...

Wow. No discussion in this thread since JUne? Where is everybody?

Needless to say, i got Elder Scrolls last nite. I read about it online at www.gamerevolution.com and decided (on impulse) to go ahead and buy a damn PS3. That was at about 7pm last nite.

10 hours later, i realized it was 4 in the morning. Or 5. I can't remember. My head feels all woozy. I haven't gamed this hard in an RPG for about 3 years.

This game is amazing! It's like EverQuest Crack, but much improved. I hope there's other people out there still playing this game, i want to see if i can get some discussion?

Or is everyone bored with it or something? :indiff: I realize Elder Scrolls came out well over a year ago, which is death for most videogames. :indiff:
