I think It will probably come down to how many more years Button can commit to the Team with anything less then 2 unacceptable.
So expect the decision to be announced sometime February. McLaren is a lot like PD in some ways...McLaren's board meeting broke up without a driver-decision. The BBC say that Mansour Ojjeh and Ron Dennis (once friends) are now "at loggerheads".

You heard it hear first, folks! Are you suggesting that Button will be available as DLC in some version of F1 that we don't have a date for?![]()
Theres no word about anything at McLarenAny word about Alonso at Mclaren?
Given that the holdup is because they can't decide between JB & KM for the second seat, I'd say that's all the confirmation you need about Alonso.
Radio Le Mans said a couple of weeks ago that they'd had confirmation of Alonso from an unnamed source inside McLaren.
I wonder what I would be reading all over the net if this (internal struggle and driver lineup stalled decision process) was happening at Ferrari. LOL, I bet something like "this is the italians being italians".![]()
But on the debate over Button and Magnussen, I think it narrows down to either having a fairly competitive driver short term (Button obviously) say 1-3 years. Or, invest in a driver will some fairly reasonable potential, who may reach similar competitiveness compared to "the other driver" within 2 seasons, and also stay competitive for longer.
Also, we still don't really know if this renewed Honda relationship is what it take to make Mclaren a winning car again.
