That is cool. 👍 Where did you get it at? I wanted to get the Ghost in the Shell movie, but Best Buy did not have it at the store I went to. Major lameness! 👎

Anyone watching Case Closed tonight? Seems CTN has started the series over because tonight's episode is the first episode. Well this is definitely a good thing, since I missed the first couple of episodes of the series. Or maybe I am wrong and they started the series some where later in the series instead of the first episode. Either way, I am happy. 👍

Ok, now with my very generalized review of Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex Volume 1--all references to the series from here on with be GITS:SAC, as it is much easier to type out than Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex. GoKents will definitely appreciate me finally getting to this!

Well I will have to say the opening for the series is pretty cool. The music and song that goes with it are not quite my favorite, but nonetheless still good. The graphics are freaklin' awesome. They are very well done and too bad the whole series is not done in that way. Though I will say the animation in the actual episodes is still very good and very well done. 👍 I am definitely impressed by the quality of the animation.

The story to me got better and better as more episodes went by. I was a little lost in the first episode not knowing who and what everything was; but after watching more, that problem went away. I hate how they end this DVD, it makes me want the Second Volume now, instead of having to wait until September or something.

Through all of the episodes there was a good amount of action and well that is definitely always good.

To me, there was some suspense too, in that I have no real idea what is going to really happen next in the series, as I have no real background information--other than knowing that Kusanagi is a major bad ass character--about the series. The only thing I know about it is what I gather from watching it. So that definitely makes it that much more enjoyable.

Overall, I will say I was definitely impressed and that I enjoyed the first volume very much so. Now, I cannot wait for the Second Volume of GITS:SAC to come out! 👍

Ive never got around to watching GITS and i didnt even know there was a sequel.

Sorry to take this a little of topic in some form but does anyone know of a good Initial D site with a half good list of character bios as well as a comprehensive episode description (ie this happened in this episode) because im sick of waiting for each DVD to come out here in Australia and i havent got the VCD's so i want to know what happens a bit more.

Thanks

Thanks for giving up your impressions on GITS:SAC.

Also, thanks for complimenting the art. :D

I also didn't even catch you post regarding ghost in the shell.

This thread has moved down the list of active threads and since your name was still the last post I figured nothing new was going down.
Glad I was wrong though. :D

Also, since my dad is out for a while and I have access to his computer/scanner I hope to do some art work and then get it up for you guys.

Any request? :D

Look forward to hearing back from you all.
Till then,
Later.

can u draw yuri?

Alright, but I really do not have the time now because tomorrow, I am going to Las Vegas, aka Sin City. The reason why I am going there is because my father, my sister, and I are attending a wedding because my father's cousin is getting engaged.

It is 3:18 AM.. Im watching Patlabor 2 the movie on movieplex.. its awesome. That's why I'm still up. A police force must prevent a civil war in Japan (between gov/police and jsdf). It's set in '96 but I think it was produced prior to that year. It is just like the rest of the super high detailed noncomputer rendered anime from that era.. (the best stuff) My favorite part is that its script isn't for a goddamn 2 yr old, like naruto or comprable series. Also, The difference in animation quality between this flick and stuff like inuyasha is amazing (even the cinematagraphy in the film is really good, the scenes are all drawn from great perspectives, they don't miss any details. If you haven't seen it, check it out... its really good, reallllly good. You can watch it for the animation quality alone.. the background scenes are amazingly well done..(if you are into political/mystery thrillers or just a fan of the 90s like i am, your gonna love it..it also has a little mecha in it too)

Yeah, pl2 is a good movie.
I liked it more than the first.

Before I got the chance to see the movie all I could think about was how badass the mech designs were.

Patlabor 1 & 2 are both excellent movies.

There was a bit of suprise on my side... Before I saw the movie, all the previews I had seen made the movies look like hardened mech combat movies.

And of course, with such awesome art to compliment the mech designs I figured there was no way they could go wrong.

Fortunately, the story only added complexity and depth to a formula that all ready stood out in my mind.

So what kind of grade would I give PL2?
8.5 out of 10.

It was a great movie and above average on all fronts.
However, with such great art and mech design, I would hope for more mech action.

But that's just my opinion. ;)

And NK4E,
I can draw just about any character I would think.
Hell, being that I am only 23, women are something I can draw very easily... I mean what's easier than drawing what is all ready on your mind. ;)

But I've gotta ask.
Which Yuri?
You know there is more than one.
So yeah, hit me with that info and I will get a picture up as soon as I can. :D

I concur with all said comments ^^^ . S4C, would they be playing the series, ova, or the movie? mever seen the series, just the two (three?) movies. They do indeed have various qualities of cinematic degrees.

some other good old flicks commonly looked over >

hardlock saga
space battleship yamato
now and then here and there (not exactly that old but just looked over ^^)
DNA?
Fist of the north star
Hana Yori Dango (very long soap style)
...cant think of the rest

So are you going to check out GITS:SAC now GoKents?

So today, I was down at my college--well I should say again, as I have been there the past two days and will be there again tomorrow--and was there to buy myself some more shirts. But on my way back home, I stopped by Best Buy to look over the anime section. Unfortunately they did not have the Second Arc of Rurouni Kenshin to complete my collection of the series, but they did have the Ghost in the Shell movie. So I ended up buying it and the Kill Bill Volume 2. Now all I need to do is watch both of them.

damn you all, Im back (kidding, but damn ya :D)
been a bit busy, but Ima post here more often now... I hope.
repsonding to the "overlooked old flicks" over there, Harlock and Yamato are part of the Leiji Matsumoto universe, wich also includes galaxy express 999, Queen Emeraldas, queen millenia, and other series and movies that are ALL related in one of the more complex, creative and touching sagas you'll ever see. if you by any means have the chance of getting your hands or seeing some of these things, or even better, ALL of them, do it, it will be the best thing you can do. You'll change your way of seeing anime after watching matsumoto's work.

Now, I was watching Inu Yasha the other day, and it has its moments, you know? I dont quite like it but its entertaining... specially when Aome (or Kagome or something like that over there) and Inu arent as related and they fihght and yell and say bad words to each other... fun. I might check it out more often

oh, really, I almost forgot. I MAY run a character drawing competition over at the artistic comps section. Im running a poll to see if there is any interest,. how about you go and vote? (:

Cano

i'l be bak :D

Hey all...
Vash, maybe. :D

Cano, kriskris,
You both mentioned some classic stuff.
However, there was also some stuff I haven't seen yet.
The "soap style" and "now & then, here..." and "hardlock" are all titles I haven't seen.

The others...
battle ship yamato
galaxy express 999 stuff (since it was several different pieces of work)
fist of the north star

Seen them all and enjoyed them for what they were.
Battle ship and galaxy were both titles aired on the sci fi saturday morning anime schedule (think that slot is gone now... has been for a while :( )

Then of course, "fist of the..."
I loved that series.
Thing is, those comments are very contextual.
(for example) Fist of north star was a great series, but if I was to compare it with some of my favorite "new" animes, it wouldn't be so hot.

One thing I like about older titles is their story quality.
Many of the older series or movies have stories that are well though out.
Classic themes like betrayal, revenge, honor and love are writen in time and time again, but always retain a sense of originality.
However, in newer anime this sort of "quality" is becoming a little bit harder to find; good stuff is out there, but so is a lot of bad stuff.

Any way,
I've gotta run.
Later. :D

Well now that I am apart of the college life, I am going to probably be joining some clubs. Tonight there is a meeting for the Animation Society and I think I will be going. Hopefully it will just be a club of anime watching or something like that.

You should definitely check out GITS:SAC GoKents! 👍

check out planetes you all. its probably one of the best series of all time. just do it, you'll be in awe.

Cano

and speaking of Leiji Matsumoto over there, have you checked interstella 5555? if you ever saw Daft Punks anime videos then you have seen the first part. Interstella picks up where the last video ended and develops a full story, its soudtrack being Daft Punk's Discovery album. the music is less relevant to the story, wich is, believe me, IM-PRE-SI-VE. check that one out too-

and really do it, because these two might be my recommendations of the year (along the alita manga. Just ask Vash)

Listen to Cano's recommendations. He is guaranteed not to disappoint. I have still yet to get around to reading the third and fourth volume of Battle Angel Alita manga, but from only reading the first two I have become hooked on the series.

Now on another note, has anyone else seen anything about Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence? I ask because it is previewed in this month's of Newtype. An ad for the movie in the magazine says it will be in theatres September 17. I will definitely have to check it out, well once I watch the first movie.

I didnt even know there was a secong part of the TV series, much less a second part of the movie. I'll have too get that one.

Cano

and read those things dammit!

Yeah, they will soon be releasing a second Ghost in the Shell movie. The second volume of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex comes out September 28th. Also on that day, the second volume of Gungrave will be released. Hopefully by then I will have enough money to buy both and that reminds me, I need to watch the rest of Gungrave.

But you should definitely check out GITS:SAC Cano, I thought it was pretty good. Though I have yet to watch the original Ghost in the Shell movie. But I shall soon get to it.

Yes, Cano I know I need to read the rest of Alita that I own. But I have been busy since college has started and just have not had a whole lot of time to do anything as far as watching anime and reading manga. But I will get to it soon!

the GITS movie is good, not as some people says imo, but good enpough to be a must-see-dammnit. I have just the first OST from GITS: SAC and it's way good. and since I guide myself with music (if I hear anime music and like it, I check out the series. it tends to work) I've been wantin to check it out. I should download it (:

Cano

Yes you should definitely check it out! I thought it was pretty darn good, at least it left me wanting to see more of it.

Hey fellas,
Sorry it's been so long since I lasted posted in here but I have been busy.

However, I've got some news...

My local blockbuster started to buy-up dvds of anime.
Most of them are the typical titles you would expect, but mixed in were a few that I thought I would ask you all about.

Specifically "now and then, here and there"

I've seen clips of it, but nothing that would tell me whether or not to take the time to watch it.

So what say you all?
Should I fork up the dough for a rental?

Also, could you give me a run down?
I just don't feel like doing an internet search right now... plus those reviews are always riddled with personal bias from people I don't know.

So let me know what you all think, and thanks for doing so.

Until I hear back from someone...
Later. :D

What kind of titles has Blockbuster started to buy up?

Has anyone seen Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence yet? I am really kinda pissed because it is not being shown in any of the theatres around where I live.

Have any of you guys seen Wolf's Rain? I saw one episode last night on Cartoon Network, and I'm hooked! Amazing characters, beautiful art, and from what I gathered from the episode, a pretty cool storyline.

I have caught an episode here and there, though I have no real opinion one way or another of the series.

Why does CTN have to should Oblongs? It is just about the biggest load of crap ever!

For those of you that care, Volume Two of Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex comes out this Tuesday, along with Volume Two of Gungrave. I should be picking up both of them up then.

^After I saw SDK on the New Type Mags DVD, the series look promising and I like the way they set it up.

-> [AW] is putting their a**es on the line by putting up a lot crappy shows like, the overly advertised Venture Bros. and Oblongs (which is ok but doesn't fit for being on [AW]). And also on rumors of cancelling Inu Yasha, thats just great. :grumpy:
