That sucks! Make sure you watch Thursday night then.

Indeed.

Seriously, I was suprised with ghost in the shell this week.

Full Metal Alchemist was also a great show for this week.

Of course, I am a little whiney baby about emotional content like what was seen in FMA.
However, the action of ghost was awesome.

Furthermore, thanks to the fact that the ghost episode was unrelated to a greater story the end product of that one episode was even better.

It was almost like the creator got to stop concentrating on abstract ideas related to a larger story and suddenly got to think of nothing more than creating an awesome show.

So basically, try to catch anything you can. 👍

Also, just for the record, I had the hardest time typing this message out thanks to my drunken state of mind.  :boggled:

So did you catch the part at the very beginning when the episode name came up that said "a Stand Alone episode" at the top of the screen?

Actually, I didn't see that, but it seems my impression must have been right. :D

I just wish that all the episodes to come could follow in this episode's footsteps.

My chief concern is that the series might end up not doing that just because I know how philosophical the Ghost in the Shell story can be. :boggled:

This week's saturday anime also created a great deal of excitement for me because of FMA.

With so many people saying that the series has a darkside to it I have a feeling that at some point there is going to be an actual trip down to hell itself. :trouble:

Just a guess since I know nothing about the series (btw, it's taking everything I've got to avoid doing an internet search for spoilers lol).

Still though, the series has so much potential that if they did anything to ruin it I would be suprised.
As mentioned before, the facial expressions and the humor are both great (often running hand in hand).
Then there is the action of the show which at this point is minimal, but something about that badass suit of armor says to me... Butt-Kicker!

The most important thing about the series to me is the story.
See, I lost my father at the age of 6, and that means my little bro lost him at the age of 4.
With that being the situation, most of our lives have been very close and on several occassions we have had other sets of brothers remark in awe that my brother and I were very close, closer than any of the other brothers could have ever imagined being with thier own.

So under those circumstances you can probably see why the movie Akira was so touching to me... And for that same reason you can certainly see why FMA strikes a deep emotional chord with me.

I hope that Al and Ed can be happy in the end.
Sadly, I don't think that will happen. :(
There is something nagging me about the story and it says that one of those two is going to suffer a horrible fate so the other can live a happy life. :( :)

Mixed emotions for sure, but that is what makes stories like this amazing.

You know, it's times like this that I get so pissed about the cliches associated with anime in America... For once I just wish the public would recognize just how mature the stories can be.

Then again, the anime boom is still only getting started. :trouble:
Maybe with a few more hundred airings of Cowboy Bebop and a healthy dose of graphic violence the people will see what all of us love (hopefully we will be able to avoid bringing too much hentai while we are at it :naughty:  ;) ).

Any way,
I'm glad to see the anime thread has a little life in it again...
It's sorta my baby in some senses lol... I still can't believe that there were no major anime threads before I posted this one. Hell! I even did a search before posting lol.

But on that note, I am proud that I got to create this thread. :D lol.

At the same time though, I am thankfull for all the support and participation you guys show... And so... Thank you.

Till next time,
-Kent :sly:

I don't really know how much of a darkside there is to FMA. I mean there have been the dark moments and because of that, I think a lot of people see more of them coming.

But you are right, the story is great stuff! Maybe I should watch ahead since I have all of the episodes up to like number 36.

On another note, I need to watch Akira.

On another note, I need to watch Akira.

Well,
Yes and No. :D

I loved the movie, not everyone else did.

It is very long and very "deep," but if you enjoy that sort of thing it can be very, very rewarding.

In fact, I only have 1 poster in my bedroom and it is a picture from Akira lol.

The thing about the movie is that it has a really in-depth story that can be cluttered by the philo. discussions that turn off so many of us.

However, at the same time it has awesome displays of power and excellent action scenes.

Plus, it is a bench-mark in the anime world.
The animation is top notch (especially for how old it is).

The movie (imo) is worth watching.
I just hope that you do it at the right time. ;)

Don't do it when your antsy or looking for a quick fix.
Try doing it when you've got nothing to do, and maybe even if you're close to depressed.

The movie really is super deep in emotional content as well as story development. But at the same time, like I said, it's deep on philosophy... Then again, it's awesome about the action. 👍

So my bottom line on this one:
Watch it when you can and when you're ready to. :D
It's a great movie and one of the standards that I hold all of anime to. 👍

btw, it was also good enough for this to be an avatar of mine for a great long time. ;) (the cape one)
The others are just for the sake of showing some of my other avatars. :D
2 akira and 1... _____ lol. ;)

Well, I have had the movie for a while now, just have not taken the time to watch it. Since I have right around a month for break from school, I may watch it sometime. Though I don't really know.

Is the third avatar Batou?

So is anyone else looking forward to Adult Swim finally getting around to airing Read Or Die?

I know tech tv was airing the r.o.d. tv series, but the stuff on AS is not the same in any way, for sure. :trouble:

Looks like it's gonna be a ton of fun.

btw, vash, as you know, but just for everyone else, yes, that is batou of Ghost in the Shell. But it's ghost the original movie and not the SAC series. ;)
(of course, I know you knew that all ready. :D )

Any way, I'm out for the night,
Talk to you all later. :sly:

You know, they had been advertising Read or Die so long ago, that I completely forgot about it. When they first started having stuff about it, I thought it looked alright and I would check it out. But like I said, it has been so long since they actually have shown anything for it, that I have forgotten completely of the series.

It is going to have a hard time to measuring up to the current Saturday line-up of FMA and GITS:SAC. Not to mention the pre-Adult Swim showing of Rurouni Kenshin.

Actually dude, it looks awesome. 👍

Plus, it's on saturday night. :D

11pm est.
Or was it eleven?
http://schedule.adultswim.com/servlet/ScheduleServlet?action=AS&theDate=12/23/04&move=1&timeZone=EST

I think it is a movie. 👍
(makes sense since the Tv Series was labeled "R.O.D. The TV Series" lol)

Even though the commercials I have seen make it look like there are going to be some majorly cliche characters, I am really stoked to see it.

I just hope I am home for it. :D
Oh, well, christmas is saturday right?
That means I will not be at the bars like usual, and so. or maybe that's the wrong smiley for not going out on the town lol... How about this one :lonely: lol. ;)

Catch you guys around, and don't forget about thursday anime tomorrow. :D
Till next time,
-

btw, this post was number 2600 for me. 👍
Almost keeping up with the anime thread, but then again, with all the spam that got put in here (no names) I probably have more quality to my posting than what is in this thread.

Let's hope not. ;)

Well I just watched the next episode of FMA. I could not help myself. This is just a really good series so far and the next episode did not disappoint.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Well I watched yet another episode of Full Metal Alchemist, and this is just a great series. Though I won't say anything about the next two episodes, so I don't ruin anything.

VashTheStampede
There was a TV series?

Sure was :D
http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,1245,ykywyy,r.o.d__the_tv_.html

Just as a little teaser. ;)

It wasn't bad, but I have a feeling that the movie is going to be way better than the series.

Don't get me wrong, the series wasn't bad. I enjoyed a good bit of it, but there were also parts that I just didn't like too much.

Tech tv will start airing it again some time or another, just don't know when lol.

Any way, my plan is to enjoy the night tonight and watch the ROD movie.
With any luck I wouln't be to trashed by the end of it all to come here and post after the movie.

Until then, :D

btw, it snowed today in Mandeville, Louisiana. :D :cold: lol.

So did you watch the ROD movie last night? For some reason I thought it came on at 10;30 or 11:00, so I ended up missing the beginning of it and since I am having dizzy spells right now, I did not watch any of it. So I did not see of the movie. If you did watch it, how was it?

Well since I don't have TechTV, I won't be able to watch the TV series.

I'm guessing Mandeville, Louisiana is in the north part of the state? Us folk in Oklahoma have had 50 degree weather the past couple of days, so it has pretty freakin' nice outside.

Well,

Yes, I did watch ROD the movie last night.

Did some research on it too... It's not a movie really.
It is a 3 part OAV or something.
Then CN got it and edited it into a single 2 hour movie.

Basically I thought it was good.
Not super duper awesome great. :dopey:

However, since I have already seen a large amount of the TV series, the movie looked all that much better. 👍

In the series it was a 4 character main cast with a supporting cast of friends and enemies. Thing was, the 4 main characters were a writer and 3 sisters (all females). The 3 sisters are body guards for the writer and do various side jobs contracted out to secert organizations (or some secret world criminal crap ... Big governments and special ops lol).

The 3 sisters are all paper masters and everyone among the group of girls has a different persona ending with a funny little cast of characters.
One note should be made that all 3 sisters are Paper Masters.

However, it doesn't work too well in comparison to the movie.

The Movie on the other hand was very good. 👍
The main cast was diverse because the story seemed more situation centered than character centered.
First off, the cast is totally different.
The single main character is the largest focus of the movie, but she still really only plays the part of an agent ("Agent Paper") and the entire movie is based around the story of one single operation.

On that note though, the one operation theme makes the story a whole bunch better. It basically revolves around a "terrorist" that uses genetics to form a little organization of clones from amazing historic personalities.
Those clones are awesome too. 👍
One is the character Gokou from dbz is based on... In movie he has the power pole and the flying nimbus (different names if any) and he is totally bad ass. 👍

...
Im straying here...

The cast gets completed with organization leader (british blone dude), Female agent (vixxen with the ability to slide through solid objects 👍 ), and finally a 3rd Agent ( Male, operations oriented military tac ops type 👍 ).

So...
With that cast of Agents, an awesome cast of enemies and a cast of enemies that are just as good. 👍 👍

Nothing less than 2 thumbs up would do, but at the same time...
8.0/10 or 8.5/10. :D

Check it out if you can. :sly:

I couldn't watch it, I was way to tired after coming from my sisters house :guilty: . But I watched it the first time they gave it... at least I watched half of it :(. I have to agree with you it was pretty good 👍 .I didn't expect it to be so good because I never heard of it before :) .

Here's a little teaser based on screen shots gotten at "Yomiko's Library."

Starting in the top left...

Miss Deep (the "hottie" agent) as she slips through a wall.
Tactical Military Guy (no name to me  ).
Agent Paper (Main character).

Finally, the large picture I left big because I liked it. :D
However, it's the dude with the power pole and the flying nimbus. 👍
Great enemy. :trouble:

Hope it makes you watch ROD the movie next time it comes on. ;)

I may end up watching it on Thursday night. But then again, I may not because I have to wake up Friday morning and pick up my aunt's dog from the vet.

Hey Kent, sweet avatar! Well I will say that I did not watch the ROD movie Thursday night. I was up the entire time, but I don't remember what I was doing. I think I may have been playing March Madness 2005.

Thanks Vash. 👍 :D

Tonight is another night for anime... Saturday anime that is. ;)

Looks like Full Metal Alchemist will be on and same as Ghost in the Shell.

I'm glad to see it too.
Last week it was awesome to see the ROD movie, but I was still sorta dissappointed that I missed my usual programs.

On that note though, I think I am going to miss them tonight unless I luck out and manage to catch the second broadcast. :crossfingers:

With any luck I will catch taht second airing, but then again, if I don't catch it there will always be thursday next week.

For now I've gotta run.
Probably back later tonight with some thoughts on the anime I catch late night.

Until then,
-

You watched FMA subbed, or you referring to the dubs on Cartoon Network? Cause I've heard they are a tad on the... bleh side of things.

Of course, now I've watched all of FMA.. and trying to find somethign else to kill time anime wise while I wait for Initial D stuff to release. Of course... I don't have much time between drawing for my art course and soon to be snapping away pictures in photo...

Getting a good fix is hard with 56k though, and no cable :p Have to bash my friends to make them burn me stuff :dopey:

I'm assuming you are talking to me on that one. I have watched a little of both versions; I have watched somewhere around the 12-14 episode range, I can't really remember right now. Though I have watched every episode that has been on CTN. The dubbed version is actually pretty good. Though Winry's voice is absolutely terrible! Barry's was not much better either, though not all that bad at the same time (this really shouldn't matter though, as he is not a major character). I actually think Alphonse's is much better dubbed, as he sounds exactly what I think a 12-15 year old boy would like. I never can remember the ages of the two boys and how the ages progress.

It is quite sudden if I remember... I was like "EH, WTF, when did they get that old??"

I've just seen some terrifying dubs... Like Initial D... and Full Metal Panic seemed kinda meh...

Oddly enough, despite my desire to watch subbed, some series I've pretty much only seen dubbed, such as Trigun and CBBB. But as I mentioned, I'm kinda isolated right now... need to get some Manga or somethign to fill in the void...

Oh no! Why did Tokyo Pop butcher Initial D! Iggy was way too annoying.
That 'Initialize' song which replaced the original move song was just plain sick :yuck:

Anyone watch any episodes of Heatguy J?

I haven't actually seen Initial D dubbed, I have just heard about its terribleness. Though I had never heard that about Full Metal Panic; but then again being that this is the only forum I doing any anime talking it is not all that surprising, being since I don't think there has been much FMP talk.

Trigun is wonderful in dubbed version.

What is CBBB? I was thinking and couldn't think of what it would stand for at the moment.

You should check out the Battle Angel Alita manga. I have read the first two volumes of it and it is great stuff. Cano recommended to me and what a great recommendation it has been so far.

CBBB, Cowboy Bebop. :D

Ok, now down to buisness...

I used to do a lot of posting in an anime forum and do you know what one of the most popular, but least tolerated threads was?

Subbed VS Dubbed.

Part of that moderator intolerance is now in my blood stream.

So,
If you want to talk about sub and dub just make sure you keep it reasonable and try not to stick with it for too long.

Frankly, the more you talk about subbed and dubbed, the more you are going to attract the fanboy fights over sub vs dub.

So please,
Remember to be considerate of each other. :D

And remember that opinions are opinions, so no one can be wrong about an opinion. :sly:

Btw, I finally managed to catch up my post count to the reply # in this thread. 👍

Yesh, opinions are just that... certain members can't seem to get it though ;)

Now, no fan boy wars please.... I've seen enough of those on various anime forums... and I'm an admin on a now dead anime forum... which I'm trying to resurrect. But thats a trick in itself.

If you guys want, ask me and I'll give you the info for it, migrate from here to there, more threads for your use on this subject, wtih a relatively smart admin/mod group, and hand picked members...

But thats me advertising.

Now... I need to get a new anime to sedate me. Or maybe I should expand my manga collection... hmm...
