I've not watched Monster yet, and with exams coming up I won't have much of an opportunity to do so.

I've not watched Monster yet, and with exams coming up I won't have much of an opportunity to do so.

Its on my list, like so many things. But really, to tell if it'd work live-action or not, all you need to read is a synopsis.

^ that's one way, but I think we've had this discussion before. Other shows I think would work would be:

Space Brothers (already got a TV drama), Shingeki no Bahamut, Ben-To, Bakuman, Psycho Pass, Ping Pong, and Zankyou no Terror.

Stuff like Nichijou or Kill la Kill will take an excruciating amount of effort in acting and CGI to come close to retaining the feel or else it ends up looking really corny/lame.

^Have we had that discussion? Usually thats how I decide on whether to watch a series or not; read the description on TVTropes or Wikipedia.

EDIT: Changing my avatar again because why not?

EDIT 2: Another avatar change because I found good art of Maya from Persona 2.

EDIT 3: Okay, while I was in a IRC channel, someone mentioned something called YuriKuma. Do I even want to know?

Watched the first 2 episodes of Arpeggio of Blue Steel. It's pretty good, but two of the names of those who worked on it is helping me gravitate to it.

^Because its cheaper?

EDIT: Wait, is it actually cheaper? I'd assume so, but I've been hilariously wrong before....

No matter how good an anime is, the potential of a live-action adaptation of that anime can be summed up in five words:

Fist Of The North Star.

CGI is actually more expensive to do than 2D believe it or not, and this applies to both sides of the ocean IIRC.

CGI was actually what turned me off from watching Tribe Cool Crew... it was nice looking 10 minutes in and then I saw the CGI and that drove me away from it.

Guise, look at this Gundam.

It's like the new fad, even Sailor Moon is doing it. I hope it goes away in the future as I personally think the use of CGI together with hand drawn anime looks like garbage.
It is possible to mix the two properly. See the Disney short put before Wreck-it Ralph, Paperman.

Japan still has a LONG, LONG, LOOOOOOONG way to go before CGI in anime (In video games it's fine) looks good, much less blends in well with 2D aside from cars. This is one of the only times they got it right.

I'm not quite sure that that's what Kenny meant. I think he meant more along the lines of this (TV Tropes link), where some elements of the animation are (or at least look) hand-drawn while others are very obviously CGI.

CGI and hand-drawn very rarely work well together because of how different they look; of the few times that they do work well together, it's almost always because of the gross mismatch of styles is used on purpose (the Angels in Rebuild, the cars in Initial D, etc.). When done well, it's done well, but when not done well it's so jarring as to distract from the rest of the show (the CGI in Cowboy Bebop is underwhelming at best)

CGI often fails in live-action shows and movies for the same reason (Series 1 of the new Doctor Who has terrible CGI)

Thank you bosslogic

Offtopic: Its really interesting to go back to like page ten and see @Cano and @nk4e's old posts. A lot has changed, that for sure.

Anywho, starting Psycho-Pass S2 tomorrow. I'm going through it purely so I can watch the movie when it comes out. Also, I've finally gotten the KLK dvd exclusive episode, so there's that to do tomorrow.

Some of the episodes might disturb you. Probably not the most disturbing stuff in anime but it did make my skin crawl.

*Goes see*

Ah, it could have been worse. Way worse.

Yeah, I really meant it more towards @nk4e. Other than capitalization and grammar , you're pretty much the same

EDIT: Wow, someone mentioned kazza

Well surprise surprise, I'm enjoying Absolute Duo despite it being mediocre, yay...

Also yay, magical boy anime is FINALLY a thing. Today was a good day.
