I liked it when there was no 'Adult Swim'..when they just played anime...and when they used to play anime movies on Saturday Mornings on the Sci Fi channel..seems like a long time ago

It was a long time ago!

As for liking it or not back then...
Not me.

Sci fi gave up on saturday morning anime long, long ago.

CN showed limited good anime before adult swim.

There was a bit, but really I mean, how can you not love adult swim.

Cowboy Bebop was first shown on American cable by Adult swim.

The family guy made a return thanks to adult swim. (although not anime, still a great show that made a come back thanks to AS)

Inu Yasha, Kenshin, Trigun, FLCL, ... (maybe even 08th MS team too)

All of those made their American Cable debutes on adult swim.

I am very happy CN was smart enough to create adult swim.

So, I need to ask, what all do you remember being on CN before adult swim?

I do remember a bit...
Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, dbz... etc...

There were a few, I wouln't deny that.

However, with the additional anime that has been added to the CN properties list thanks to Adult Swim programming, I have nothing but good things to say about CN creating Adult Swim.

Sure, I don't always like the way they manage adult swim, but I would rather have it there then go back to the way it used to be.

So yeah, What made CN so good before adult swim and the adult swim programming?

Looking forward to hearing opinions,

Well, I thought I would comment on tonight's episode of Inu Yasha. First, I would have to say it was a pretty darn good one. The power Sesshomaru has with Tetsaiga is amazing. The battle between Sesshomaru and Inu Yasha and gang was a good one. Overall for at least a two part episode, this was a very good episode. Now, I can't really wait to see the next episode to see how this battle ends up going. 👍👍

Which I had caught it, but it is still nice that you brought this thread back.

I was actually going to do the same just to mention how much I am actually enjoying "Case Closed". 👍

As for Inu Yasha,
I will have my comments once the next episode is aired. ;)

btw, case closed really is great. :D

Um, I think 'Case Closed' is another anime that hit the Tokyo Pop Virus. Yes, it was distributed by Funimation (DBZ, YuYu Hakusho, and .Hack) but if you look very closely, the real title is 'Detective Conan'. Why would they do that? Why people ruin a very neat anime? I'm sick of this!!! :grumpy:

Though the series may have be renamed, this does not take away from the series.

I definitely agree with GoKents on Case Closed. I do not know why I like it so much much, but it is a really solid series. It really is pretty entertaining. 👍

I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I'm recently went to mall that had loads of anime dvds and vcds. I spent an hour looking for a good anime to buy but all of it was written in Japanese and Chinese. I don't really look at the pictures to help me decide because they don't tell the whole story.

I want to know what anime I should get. Preferably containing:

-lots of action and fighting (ie. dragonball type action)
-good story (ie. Trigun's was pretty good)
-loads of good characters with personality (ie. Rurouni kenshin, Trigun and Dragonball)
-crazy sword-slinging samurais (ie. rurouni kenshin)
-good animation (ie. initial d, rurouni kenshin)

I open to more suggestions than these, but these are my preferred choices.

Thanks for your help!!

Check out Samurai X if you have not seen them. It is about Kenshin, but before the RK series and after it. The production quality is awesome on it. The artwork puts the series to shame. Samurai X gives a whole lot more meaning to the series and develops Kenshin's character even further.

If you have not seen Cowboy Bebop definitely check it out. As everyone raves about it. And from what I have seen of it, I definitely agree. 👍 I own all the DVDs of Bebop and will eventually get around to watching the series all the way through.

If you are looking for some good manga, check out Battle Angel Alita. Cano suggested it to me and it is just amazing. The story is incredible. Cano's praising of the artwork has anything in store for me, well then the artwork should be absolutely amazing. I have already seen some of this brilliance Cano talks about in the first volume of the manga, though not quite what he has made it out to be. Oh, let me mention, I have only read the first volume of Battle Angel Alita and am already wanting more of it. It is of very good quality.

This post reminds me, I need to watch Cowboy Bebop and read the second volume of Battle Angel Alita. Maybe I should get on to that . . . 💡

Sorry to cramp your usual Saturday Night Anime review GoKents--though you can give your usual thorough review of the episode--but I had to comment on Inu Yasha tonight. Tonight's episode was very, very funny.👍 I did miss the very beginning of the episode though, like the first couple of minutes. Stupid me for talking on the phone. :dunce:

Though it does look like I will be watching all of Reign the Conqueror sometime soon. A friend of mine is going to rent it and she wants someone who will watch it with her; so I said I would.

Almost but not quite. She has a boyfriend and I have known forever anyways. She looks at me like a brother. Though that does not keep me from hitting on her.

Well tomorrow she is supposed to be bringing her cousin over for me to meet her. Hopefully there is some kind of possibility there!

 I have known this girl for a long time and actually I am good friends with her boyfriend too. I have too much respect for the both of them to do something like that. But like I said, maybe something with the cousin.

Alright everyone,

Saturday Anime will be posted a little later today.

However, for right now...

Don't waste your time with reign.
It is a bad series, not good at all! :grumpy:

I will try and explain more about it later today. :D

Also, regarding vanishing boy and case closed.
For starters. Check this here
To me 1996 would put this show well before the tokyo pop virus you mentioned. (I can only assume that "virus" is your way to reffer to the anime explosion in America during the late 90's)

Also, sieto,
I took the time to reply to your post but you never even bothered responding to mine. (my reply posted here )

I'm not saying there was no anime before Adult Swim.
I knew plenty of it since I watched so much.
However, since you brought it up, I was hoping that you would elaborate.
After all, you were the one who said he liked it more before AS.

Any way, I'm out for now, but will be back later today to make my usual Saturday Anime sort of post.

Also, on a final note, un-related to anime,
"all is fair in love and war" is a good way to convince yourself not to feel bad about doing horrible things. ;)

 You are all so freakin' funny. Well personally I did not really want to watch Reign; but I will if the friend of mine rents it, as I am the only anime person she knows and she asked if I would watch it with her if she were to rent it from Blockbuster. So since she wanted to watch the series, have someone to watch it with, and asked me to watch it with her, I told her I would because I am a sucker like that. :dunce:

I cannot believe Case Closed has over 300 episodes. Well it sounds like that those of us that like the show will be able to watch it for a very good amount of time.

Seito means with the Tokyo Pop virus that they have taken the liberty to rename the series and potentially other things. Though I personally think the title Case Closed is a better one than Detective Conan. To me, it fits the show a little better; but I cannot argue against a company renaming someone else's work.

After looking at the link, it seems some of the names have been changed too. The one thing I have not noticed with the series though is really bad translation. I have actually thought the translation has been done pretty well and goes with the theme of the series well too.

GoKents-> Thanks for the heads up look, Its kinda hard for me (especially I came from Asia) to adap all those name changing, but this is not the first time. Yu Yu Hakusho is a very good anime series, but to capture Philippine audience they change the main characters names, and also change the title to "Ghost Fighter". Its kinda funny the way they made it thou.

Cool deal everyone.

Glad I didn't get flak over that post. :D
Sorry about any attitude.

On a side note, I want to mention that with Case Closed, I went to the official website.

It seems that there were legal problems with Detective Conan.
That's understandable considering the title may have created problems related to intellectual properties (or something else crazy).

Maybe something related to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his creation.

Any way,

Listen all... I'm tired, so this week is gonna be short. :indiff:

Yu Yu was nice, but next week is the episode that really wraps up the saga.
However, I loved a part of the show where Yuske cried like a little baby as Kuwabara revealed his faked death.

Inu Yasha was on that same vibe.
Comedy. :D
Lots of sexually suggestive themes between all of the characters.
It was actually the episode where an old woman tried to seduce Miroku (as seen in commercials).
There was also a suprising amount of emphasis on Miroku as a fighter... While Inu Yasha, Kagome, and Sango thought about what to do, Miroku killed the centipede demon with 1 shot. 👍

I was quite suprised with that action sequence since they usually play into the fact that Miroku is almost a 1 trick priest. ;)
However, this was all a great development for Miroku since I certainly enjoyed the action mixed with sexual slap stick humor (my god that sentence sounds bad :scared: ).

I don't remember next week's Inu Yasha, but I will surely have a nice little recap essay for any one intrested.

Until next time,
-

GoKents,

Could you tell me what happened in like the first five or so minutes of Inu Yasha? I missed it and think it might have been the part about Miroku killing the centipede, though I am not sure.

Definitely agree with you on the comedy on this episode. 👍 It had me laughing pretty hard for the entire episode

Actually I have not read the second volume of it yet and I am disappointed in myself because of it. But I have been reading a whole lot of car magazines. I am definitely going to try to get to it this next week before I go on vacation. Tomorrow sounds like a good day to read it and I think I might try to get to it then. Did you end up getting the volume that I told you was out?

Cano,

I read the second volume of Battle Angel Alita today. I will say that I was not quite as impressed with the second volume as I was the first one. The first one had much more action and left me with more questions. Though I should say I was not disappointed with the second volume, I just did not find the second one as good overall.

It still leaves me with questions, but now more about the floating city Tiphares and what it is all about; it is why the people are on the floating city and why the Scrapyard is the way it is. Ahhhh . . . so many freakin' questions. But I still have questions about Alita's past and from this volume it makes me want to know more about Ido and his past on Tiphares.

The one thing this volume had is a whole lot of story and develops the characters further, especially Alita. It also gave a slight insight into Ido's past. Though I found the less action of the story somewhat boring, the character development makes up for that. This volume did not really have any humor at all, while the first one did have some.

Well the one thing I do know--well for one, my ramblings probably do not make a lot of sense--I will definitely be buying the third volume sometime soon. There are too many holes left to be discovered, so I just have to keep reading this series and find out how the story further develops.

Now, I have to give you major props for telling me about this series. 👍

well dude, there are still holes in the story that Im still waiting to be solved, but all your answers about tiphares, Ido and stuff will take you long to find answers for. but hey, you are gonna enjoy the porcess, believe me (:

Cano

I figured that much and am going to buy the third volume of the manga soon, as I am enjoying this series very much. So did you ever pick up the volume that I said had been released?

Theres a cerrtain degree of value in the alita series...huh....what?!@#! its in manga form? I thought the anime was good. Am I missing out on the manga?

i would like to say" ssssssssnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr

kirkis,
Yes Alita is in manga form. I have not seen the anime, but the manga is great! 👍 You should definitely check it out. I have only read the first two volumes of the manga and already am going to keep reading because it has left me with wanting to know so much more about the world Alita is in. So go get it! Now!

BTW, everyone, I'll be gone for about a week as I am going on vacation to St. Louis. I don't think I'll have any internet access, though I might be able to find some. Until then though, good chating. (I sure do hope I get to catch Inu Yasha and Case Closed during the time I am gone)

Well it looks like time for Saturday Anime!

Ok, so it's a bit late.
No big deal. ;)

Basically, I only caught the shows I was intrested in seeing.
Inu Yasha and Yu Yu Hakashu.

Both were good, but in totally different ways.

Yu Yu had it's final episode of the dark tournament saga.
Genkai is alive!
That was the biggest event of the show. However, Taguro had major character development and back ground story working for him.
The story of his past was told and before he voluntarily went into limbo he had a nice talk with Genkai while she was still in spirit world.
In that talk we found out that Taguro really wasn't that bad of a guy. In fact, you find out that he had a good heart and that he really just felt guilty over the deaths of his friends.

Oh, I never mentioned that I guess...
It turns out that Taguro had friends who were all killed while he was absent from his dojo. Of course, who killed his friends?
The former tournament champion, a demon of the highest order.
So Taguro changed at that point and once he won the tournament he became a demon just like the one that killed his friends.
This was all in some sort of attempt to repress his guilt while at the same time ensuring that he would never be too weak to protect the people he cared for.
Unfortunately he did things all wrong and in the end he just wanted to be killed and sent into a torturous existance in limbo.

That is where Yuske came in... He was to be the one who killed Taguro.

Well of course that happend and in this particular episode it becomes more obvious than ever that Taguro was the master mind behind everything that happend in the Dark Tournament Saga.

It was a great show, but more of a story closing kind of episode than a kick ass demon hunter episode. Still something I am glad I caught. :D

👍 👍

Then there is Inu Yasha.
Inu Yasha was a different sort of show this week also.
Instead of a story closely related to Kagome, Inu Yasha and the rest of the gang, this week's episode was related to Kagura, Naraku and Shessomaru.

It was the night of the new moon.
Inu Yasha lost his powers and the cocky wolf demon Koga showed up.

Well the wolf demon fought Kagura (the wind demon) and lost badly.
He even gave up the two jewel shards in his legs.
At that point in the fight Inu Yasha (in mortal form) showed up with the gang.
Kagura decided to run off at that point, but she still won since she was able to take the jewel shards from Koga (the wolf demon).

With jewel shards in hand, Kagura contemplated the chances of her escape.
Keep in mind that she is an incarnation of Naraku, but at the moment, Naraku is gone and the barrier to his castle is weak.

Well she thinks it over and decides that while Naruku is mysteriously absent she should take her jewel shards and escape.
She does so only after remembering Sheshomaru, Inu Yasha's brother (the full demon).

Sure enough she escapes and sure enough she finds Sheshomaru. She then offers him a deal. The jewel shards in exchange for his services to kill Naraku.

The show ended on that note.
It was obvious that they were stressing Kagura having feelings. Not just the feelings of a demon puppet, but the feelings of an individual and independant entity.
Plus, there was a quite a bit of dialoge and atmosphere suggesting that Kagura was falling in love with Sheshomaru.

So I am sure that those two will be a strong force in future episodes.

Now, this episode wasn't completely void of the usual stuff. ;)
Plenty of bickering.
Plenty of flirting.

But for "the gang" it was really the presence of Koga that made a difference.
Keep in mind that he is seriously in love with Kagome. So every time he comes around it's a big fight between him and Inu Yasha. Well this almost happend, but instead the show concentrated on another element of that love triangle.

Yeah, actually, it was an important showing in some ways.
You see, IY asked Kagome not to be so nice to Koga, and instead of listening to him she just went ahead as usual.
However, at one point Koga went to make his normal move on Kagome and instead of getting Kagome, he got shippo!
It turns out that Kagome dissappeared and ended up by Inu Yasha's side.

So really, with Koga showing up it was a way to show that Kagome and Inu Yasha had become even closer; so close that when a rival showed up trying to steal Kagome's affection, the most he could end up with was a polite little girl who still loved Inu Yasha.

Oh, there was one more element to this episode that was important and unlike the above mentioned love triangle, this was important to the entire story of the series.

Remember me saying that Naruku was gone and his barrier to the castle was weak?

Well guess what Kagura figured out?

When Kagura fled the scene of her fight with Koga and the entire team came running up, she saw the half demon Inu Yasha turned into a human.

Well guess who else turns into a human on the night of the new moon?
The other half demon Kagura knows... Naraku.
That's right, Naraku turns into a human on the night of a new moon.
So it turns out that Naraku really is half human and half demon.

Well this is a new development!
Unfortunately Inu Yasha and the others still don't know that Naraku looses his powers on the night of the new moon (just like IY). However, I am sure it will all come out in time now that Kagura and Sheshomaru are going to be working together.

Any way, Inu Yasha was definately a good show and there were many elements to keep the fans intrested.

👍 👍

As always, both shows were good enough to leave me wanting more.
So with that in mind, I will be back next time with the next installment of the story.

Until then,
-

I cannot believe GoKents post was the only one that happened during the whole time while I was gone. It seems to me something is wrong here at the Anime Thread. Thanks for the post GoKents, I watched Inu Yasha on Saturday, but it seemed before I read your post that I only remembered half the episode. I felt like I was half-asleep when I was watching the episode.

Now onto talking about the rest of the trip and what I watched on TV. Well I watched most every episode of Inu Yasha during the trip, though I was still half-asleep during most of them. The biggest thing I was disappointed in was that I only caught one episode of Case Closed the entire time. So that was pretty lame.

My trip overall was pretty good. I added to my collection of Inu Yasha manga as a result and I also got a pretty darn good deal on a pair of Lucky's. But I was annoyed by my great aunt criticizing the things I most enjoy. She criticized my love of cars, love of anime, and love of F1 racing. It really was not that big of a deal, it is just I am sick of people criticism for things they obviously do not understand or are too narrowminded to give a chance. And on another note, I think it is about time that my sister gets a nice punch in the face or something, as I am just about sick of her mouth and how she cannot keep it shut. (This is now the end of my ranting.)

Oh and the last thing I need to mention about my trip. Not only did I see a brand new Viper, along with a RT-10 and a GTS Viper, a 996 Turbo, a 996 Carrera Cabriolet, and a couple other nice cars, but it just so happens that I saw one of the new Lotus Elise's that have just now been released in the States. Though I do not really like the Elise in yellow, it was freakin' sweet. So it was nice getting to see cars that are few and far in the area I live.
