Which version are you watching, the 1986 12 episode series or the 2005 26 ep series?

If possible id reccomend watching the original 12 episode series first and then watching the newer 26 ep series some time after. The original series was actually pulled after 12 episodes due to a poor audience but although the plot is cut short its a grittyer more adult orientated show compared to the new version and somehow has something the new show cant quite capture. Whichever version you are watching im sure you wont be dissapointed its a greatly overlooked anime but one that is responsible for my whole interest in anime.

The movies are incredibly weak compared to the animated series too.

Spec....

I started watching Outlaw Star. Turns out a friend of mine owns it on DVD, so I am watching while I am playing games, etc at home. Pretty good stuff indeed.

Outlaw Star is one of my favorite anime's ever. The only thing I didn't like was how it tried to get serious late in the serious. Wait 'til you get to the hot springs episode. Every funny stuff!

Is anyone else going to be watching/taping the Naruto marathon that is going to be on Cartoon Network starting Friday?

I plan on taping as much of it as I can. I should not have too much of a problem, since I can run two DVD recorders (on separate TVs) at the same time if I need to and catch overlap times.

Is the anime on Sci-fi still being shown? I may actually be able to start watching it now that I do not have to work the following day.

I've not got much interest in catching Naruto... watched the Fansubs long before Cartoon Network got ahold of it.

What episodes are they running of it anyhow at this point? I'm mostly just reading the manga now...

I've started watching 'Devil may Cry'.
Not bad action-wise, but a bit wanting story-wise.
Maybe it's just not what I was expecting.
The animation is well done though & I appreciate the unadulterated violence.

Then again, my all time favorite anime is 'Berserk'... except for the last two episode, which are pretty 'out there'.
(so my opinion may not count for much) ;)
The uber violence & the fact that the begining is the end is the begining, really sold me on Berserk.
The fight in the woods between Gut & the 100 men was awesome. 👍

It is just past the Three Sanin battle, where Tsunade takes over as Fifth Hokage. She has yet to heal Bushy Brow and I think that is the next episode.

First off, sorry for the double post, but I managed to mess up the settings on one of the DVD recorders and missed a little over an hour of the Naruto marathon. :banghead: I have really struggled with setting these damn things the right way. I either mess up the AM or PM part of the time or set it to the wrong play time. :banghead: IDIOT!!!

Merged the double post. 👍
Also, I just came around because I had noticed the huge Naruto marathon. Suprised me to see them doing so much over the weekend. 👍 👍
I know there are many here who can't stand most anime on CN or spoken in English, but if you don't know Naruto this marathon could be a good way to catch up on the start of the series.

Edit:
New avatar in honor of the marathon... I just wish they would do this sort of thing with FMA. :sly:
Although, I'm very happy with Naruto alone. :D
Let's just hope they do this again down the road when we're watching the end of "Naruto." Makes me wonder if we will ever see dubbed Shippuden episodes on CN.

I have been pretty much watching the marathon nonstop since I started watching it yesterday once I woke up with the same happening today. Depending on where the marathon stops tonight will determine if I wake up tomorrow for the start of the marathon or not.

I am sure you have seen this, Cartoon Network will be showing the first Naruto movie on September 8th. 👍

We can only hope Cartoon Network will show more of the movies and then once Naruto is finished, Cartoon Network will show Shippuden.

Well the marathon ended and I really feel like it ended at a bad time.
I mean, in some ways it was a great place to end the marathon. New Hokage is honored, all the bad guys are down, etc etc... However, I really wanted to see Rock Lee get better and start up with (well, that's a spoiler). :sly:
None the less, the point is that I wish they had gone further just so I could have caught more of Rock Lee's story. 👍
In any case, that shouldn't be far off so hopefully we'll get to see Lee kicking butt again real soon.

Btw, I hadn't seen the Naruto vs Kabuto or the 3-way Sanin fight. 👍 👍
Not the absolute best anime ever but still good enough for me. :D

Oh, and on a sad note, my ramin (sp?) noodle intake has increased by about 10 fold over the last 2 weeks. :dopey:

Yes, the marathon ended and I am only left wanting more of the series. Now I cannot really wait until next Saturday when there should be a new episode shown (I can really only hope that is the case . . .). This one new episode per week is killing me . . . it makes the series go by so slowly. At this pace, it will be over two years from now until Naruto ends; maybe Cartoon Network is doing it this way to intently torture me (and other anime viewers) and so they can get Shippuden for the network.

It was not a terrible place to end the marathon, from what I know the story only opens up from here and some of it came to a close here. I am definitely looking forward to more of it (if you cannot tell ). 👍

I watched approximately 36-40 hours of the 50 hours of the marathon (not that I really had much else to do with all the rain this weekend and the pending college semester). So hopefully now, I have seen every episode in the first 100.

And what is wrong with Ramen? Ramen noodles are a great food and I had some today for lunch. Had we not had burgers for dinner, then I would have also had it for dinner. 👍

Nothing wrong with Ramen, I just find it halarious that watching Naruto and not eating any ramen over the last few years has now recoiled and forced me into a Ramen binge.

Also, I agree with you on the ending of the marathon where it happend... I suppose my disappointment is more about not getting to see any more rather than the actual location of the stop.

Oh, and a question...
Am I the only guy who feels like Adult Swim definately needs to be knocked down a notch or two?
More and more of the programming seems to me like garbage these days. :indiff:

 Maybe you should try a Ramen and beer binge.

I really do not watch much Adult Swim any more. Since I have not been watching any of the series on Saturday nights, I really only occasionally watch Futurama and Family Guy if I cannot find anything else on at the time. I have been watching a little Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law though, since they have put it back on. It is an alright series and can be funny at times. Outside of that I rarely watch much else on Adult Swim.

Had I actually been following some of the series that are on Saturday night, then I probably would watch it more, though I just never took the time to watch any of it. I am sure Bleach is probably pretty good and from what I have watched of it I have liked. I never did finish Eureka Seven, even though I watched a bunch of it. Other than those two, the only other show that I know was/is on is Trinity Blood and I only caught a couple episodes of it. It did somewhat spark my interest, but I was busy with other things and did not watch much of it.

Right now, I have Star Trek on instead of whatever is on AS right now (though that may be more of a testament to the greatness of cardboard sets, than the maybe potential greatness of whatever is on AS at the moment ).

Same here with waiting for Saturday. It should be interesting to see what happens with Rock Lee and if he gets better. Uh, don't spoil it for me, OK?:D

I caught the last 6 hours or so. I'm pretty much caught up with the first 100 eps myself.:)

And what is wrong with Ramen? Ramen noodles are a great food and I had some today for lunch. Had we not had burgers for dinner, then I would have also had it for dinner. 👍
Had some Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup for lunch myself. Nice way to fill up your belly. :9

I watch AS for the anime myself.;) I'm following Bleach and FullMetal Alchemist right now, and I say they're pretty good. And with the eps of FMA that are airing right now, it's the first time I'm seeing them.

On another subject, have any of you been to an anime convention before? For me, I've been to a couple of one-day conventions down in the Philadelphia area in the past couple of years. I have been also been a attendee at Otakon since 1995.^_^v

BTW Kent, nice avatar. :D I take it it's Shippuden Naruto in SD form, am I right?

I already somewhat know what happens in the coming episodes with Rock Lee, though that is only through reading about him on various websites. Other than that, I am just as interesting as you are with what happens with Bushy Brows. 👍

This marathon really could not have come at a better time for me. Cheers to Cartoon Network on this one!!!

Two weeks ago was my last week of working for the summer and this last week, I had the entirety of it free to do whatever I pleased before school started back up. (Just so everyone knows, it was one of the best weeks ever! Just getting to relax and not having a single care in the world, it was great! 👍) I am really hoping I am in for a pretty easy semester; I do not feel like having another year like this past year . . . so much work. 👎

Had some Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup for lunch myself. Nice way to fill up your belly. :9

Good choice of anime watching with Full Metal Alchemist! 👍 I have seen close to every episode of it and it was really good. I really need to just buy the movie and watch it so I can find out how the series ends. Bleach seems to be another good series from what I have seen of it.

I have not been to an anime convention before and do not really know if there have ever really been any around here; though I may just be misinformed or no one told me about them.

SD form?

Now it is time for me to head off and hit the sack. I really need to go ahead and go to bed and gets some good sleep for my first day of class . . . though both sleep and class are overrated . . . especially when you can watch Naruto!

You guys really need to start looking into fansubs.. though the legal nature of them is questioned due to international copy right laws, etc. Most major licensing companies over look it, because its basically free advertising.

Anime-Cons.com has a database of anime conventions that lists cons that take place in many states across the country as well as news about some of the upcoming anime cons. I imagine there's one or two anime cons in the Sooner state. If not, I believe there's a couple of cons down in the Dallas area.:)

Super Deformed or Chibi.;)

Thanks for the link! I will definitely check it out.

Would have never though of super deformed, though I would have known Chibi.

The thread has slowed down a bit so I'll bump it back up with a recommendation of my own:

It's a series simply called AIR; some of you may have heard of it as it's a 2-to-3-year-old show but it was recently released in the U.S. so it's appropriate to stir up interest in it. It's produced by the same people who both wrote (Key) and animated (Kyoto Animation) Kanon, if that means anything to you. :)

AIR is a very emotional story; in a sense it's sort of a romance story as the story does revolve around one guy and his interaction with many girls, but there's not much of the lovey-dovey; it's hard to categorize the story. It's more of a general character-driven story, with everyone having a secret to tell and a touching story.

The reason I bring it up is because ADV, the licensor of this anime, has for a limited time allowed the streaming of the first episode on its website for free. It's English dubbed if that's important, but if the story interests you from the blurb on the site or if you like the first (admittedly kinda slow) episode, the DVD is out right now wherever you can find it and I would suggest you check out more if this is your kind of show. :)

I know it's mine. Cheers!

From the insanity corner here's a little conversation between TwinTurbos94 and I on Initial D:

CCY: don't know if the show is horribly exciting as I thought ID was kind of a simple pleasure. no real fancy plot or characters or anything.
TT94: oh....
CCY: maybe it does, but I just see a bunch of racing, your general guys' show with "one underdog defeats everyone" type premise. like, what, pokemon or something except with cars? I dunno. XD
TT94: lol
TT94: gotta drive 'em all!
CCY: XD
TT94: lol
TT94: that would be awsome
TT94: Ford GT I choose you!
CCY: hmm, certainly would be an strange but amusing premise.
TT94: Team Ricer is blasting off again
CCY: that's brilliant! XD
TT94: NEW SIGNATURE!!!!!!!

As you may tell it's a bit longer than the six lines limit so I decided to toss it up here and segue into a little discussion:

Is Initial D a more complex anime than I give it credit for? I've always just seen it as "underdog guy with bad car but great skills wipes floor with cocky hotshots who think they're better", with some half-hearted romance stories (but c'mon, they don't know who they're pandering to if they throw in panty shots when they're trying to have an emotional scene?) on the side.

But is there more depth to it? ...Does there need to be? Maybe it's better as just a simple, easily-digested anime, but my tastes at least like something a bit more complex. What are your thoughts? :)

On InD-> InD is a decent anime at first, in which it has romance, laughter, and some this and that. But halfway thru the series, it became too serious, leaving the laughter and romance part behind, come on even Itsuki and Mogi has been shoved away. Right after 3rd stage, the series has turned more into DBZ than the SOS brigade. :indiff:

-> I'm with CCY, I'd like to watch an anime series that is easy to digest and relieves you from stress.

-> Here are the anime series that I'm currenty watching right now:
- Ai Yori Aoshi
- Chobits
- Comic Party
- Gunslinger Girl
- Lucky Star
- Negima!?
- Wangan Midnight
- Tenchi Muyo! OVA
- Ah! My Goddess: Flightss of Fancy
- Eureka Seven

-> Here are the anime series that I just finished within a month ago:
- Rizelmine
- Club Angel of Death: Dokuro-chan
- Death Note
- Ichigo 100%
- Azumanga Daioh! The Very Short Movie

-> Here are the manga's I'm currently reading:
- Girls Bravo
- Pastel
- Suzuka
- Yotsuba&!
- Evangelion: Angelic Days
- DearS
- Gatcha Gatcha: The Next Revolution
- Negima!
- Ichigo 100% (manga)

-> And I'm still trying to make my own manga on the side. :)

Well, Initial D was aimed at teenage boys like how Naruto and DBZ were. You hardly get any romance in DBZ. ID isn't suppose to be a complex Anime at all, its going to be easy to understand even if you watch a single episode but fangirls and boys turn it complicated than it was suppose to be. Tokyo Pop deleted the small ecchi scene with Tak and Mogi in the first volume of the manga.
Even though that the Toyota Sprinter wasn't a bad car at all, still popular in Japan for at least 10 years from its actual make. The Author owns a Toyota Sprinter Trueno and a Subaru Impreza STi 22b from what I believe. but then again, Wiki has became a non-creditable site.
Anime isn't suppose to complicated, thats how the greats became. Fist of the North Star, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, Berserker. Those animes are all aimed at teenagers(boys)
as well drama animes like:Air,Kannon are aimed at Girls mainly but guys do watch them and girls do watch Boys stuff. Well, don't forget Voices of a Distant Star, Socrates in love , Rurouni Kenshin( questionable) and Battle Royale( very questionable). Yes I know that CCS said what I just explained in a whole paragraph T_T

I think your way of thinking is right in that keeping things simple is usually a good formula - as long it's not too simple, I say. Complex enough to be interesting but easy enough to follow.

Side notes:
* I feel bad that I don't really recognize half the shows you mention there.
* Kanon wouldn't have so many cute girls if it was aimed at girls only. ;) Actually since the original was an H-game (read: 18+), one might say it was aimed at guys originally, although since the story holds up fantastically without the ero-content, maybe it was a girls' game after all. Both genders, I believe, but I'm a die-hard Kanon fanboy.
* Battle Royale was actually a pretty good live-action movie as well, especially with the dynamics of high school students; I'll have to read the book someday.
Yes I know that CCS said what I just explained in a whole paragraph T_T
* I like that you know my Cardcaptor Sakura roots. :sly:

Assuming you've read the ID manga, how does that compare to the anime (which I haven't seen)? I think you may be right in that it gets a lot more serious in the later parts; I don't remember a lot but the romance-ish story between Itsuki and...Kazumi? was pretty heavy; especially with the old man as the boyfriend. Oy.

And since you brought it up, here's what I'm following. A lot of it's current: Lucky Star, School Days, Doujin Work, Wangan Midnight, and Zetsubou Sensei (comedy gold! like Azumanga combined with dark humour). Some older series are: Tsukihime, Da Capo, and Tokimeki Memorial. :)

:)-> I'm really aware that InD is aimed at young boys (Shonen) crowd [starts at high school]. I can understand shoving the romance part away, but some of the humor it did kinda turned me off. I'm with you Nk4e, that InD being the same class as DBZ.

:)-> And Wangan Midnight is aimed towards older men (Seinen), just because of its timelime [starts after high school/college].

^ Yes I did read the manga (in fact I'll re-read the manga again soon starting vol. 9 onwards). No, its not just Itsuki and Kazumi had some lovy-dovy parts in InD, but a brief and stupid relationship of Iketani and Mako, and a shocking end to a progressive relationship of Takumi and Natsuki.

CCY~> BTW, I like your Nagato Yuki-chan avatar. =KAWAII= XD
