For the fiancé she got a Cannon A540 for XMas.

Then she got me a Sony A100 for Valentine's day.

Hey I just bought a new camera the Olympus Stylus 760.

mju760_frontback.jpg

Pretty nice camera. The sole selling feature was the fact it was weather proof, which will be nice when I head off to Europe this summer. I got a really good deal on it, the camera, a 1GB card, a case, and a 4 year warrenty for $279.99 at Best Buy. Can't really complain about that.

The image stabilization is awesome, takes decent pictures even in the car and it has one of those continuous shutter modes which I find awesome. Also I can order a thing so it takes under water pictures, which I might in fact do.

I picked myself up a Canon A710 IS a couple weeks ago:

A710_3q-001.jpg

I was looking for something with decent image quality, lots of manual control options, and the ability to point & shoot if I'm feeling lazy. I'm new to photography, and I hope it'll also let me learn the basics and decide if it's something I'll stick with before I drop cash on a DSLR. I've already got a D80 & 18-200mm lens package picked out... :guilty:

Camera in my car for unforeseen occurrences: Sony F717.

Camera I use for all other things:

Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM

Flash
Canon Speedlite 580EX (which consumes more power than my computer)

I will buy a 50mm soon. Haven't decided yet which one.

@Derrict
Why do you have a Canon 50 f/1.8 lens? That's like fueling a ferrari with Diesel.

Got a new camera to replace my old Fujifilm A202. Now got a Fujifilm Finepix V10.

It even has 4 little games on it. lol

sony-a100.jpg

I got a Sony a100 in September, took 3000 frames in the first 3 months of ownership. I've settled down a bit since then, but definitely a fun camera to own.

Sony put out the a100 shortly after buying Minolta, so there's a lot of carryover between who made the camera and who's name is on it. I still haven't gotten tired of explaining that just because it's Sony doesn't mean it's crap. I'd definitely recomend it.

I have a Nikon D50, and have taken about 5,600 shots since I bought it last summer. I mostly use a 50mm 1.8, a 55-200 tamron, and the kit lens it came with (a 18-55mm)

I use it mostly for car photography, and even got some spy shots of the new merc c-class with it, but they're not any good anymore:indiff:

I bought myself a Nikon D40 a couple of weeks ago. I decided that a Nikon D40 and some extra gear (55-200mm zoom lens, clear filters to protect the lens, nice camera bag, etc.) was a better investment than going for the D40X. I don't really care about those extra megapixels. 6Mp will give me 15"x10" prints at 200dpi which is more than enough for me.

I replaced my old s5500 with a S9500, that my Mum used to own and never used. We swapped camera and gave her just £50. It wouldn't be my camera of choice, but for that price you can't go wrong. ;)

Fujifilm S5100

Had it for about 2 years it's the best camera i've ever used for it's price. As far as price goes I don't remember but I think it was around $250

The best quality photos I've ever taken. :)
Got it 2 years ago for £280.

Money well spent. 👍

Just bought a Pentax k10D last night. So far seems like a very capable camera for my skill level and the price was more than right.

now I just need to get a SDHC card reader as my Dell 2407FPW monitor apparently can't read that format:(

I got a Canon Eos 20D with an 18-55 kit a year or so ago, and more recently a Panasonic lumix DMC LZ5.

OTEC DV-380 12MP Digital Video Camera,
But I have a new computer and I lost the
Driver software for the camera, so now I
can't load pictures on my computer.

Any sugestions? Do you know where I can
download the driver? I looked everywhere.
Maybe you can send it to me?

I haven't been on the forum since April lol

It was $70, why not? lol I'll eventually buy a 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 but it's not high on my priority of things to buy. The 1.8 has a slow, inaccurate autofocus mechanism (which is loud), it's soft until stopped down to about f/3.2, and excessive vignetting but it's still a fast and cheap prime.

Here are a few sample pictures from it

I fancy a decent camera as I only have a canon digital ixus 500. Those SLR type ones with the large lenses and huge optical zooms look cool but I know theyre extortionate prices.

Can anyone suggest a good camera to be had between £150 ($295.12) and £200? ($393.50)??

Thanks for any help

I'm currently looking at this olympus sp-550

According to consumer Reports, the SP-550UZ is $300 and received an overall score of 65. As a point of comparison, a Canon PowerShot A720 IS is $200 with a score of 75. Higher price doesn't always equal a better camera.
consumerreports.org on the SP-550
Highs
Very good flash range. Features 18x optical zoom and wide-angle lens. Includes manual controls and a mechanical image stabilizer. Also, it can save images in RAW format.

Lows
Picture quality is good, but not as high as comparable cameras. Long shutter lag. Lacks some ease of use features; flash does not automatically pop up in low light. No indication that camera has locked focus when shutter is pressed halfway down. Expensive.

Bottom Line
A very good camera, but expensive. Its very long optical zoom and wide angle lens (to capture more of a scene than a standard lens) are unusual. But picture quality and performance (namely shutter lag) weren't as high as comparable compacts.

consumerreports.org on the A720 IS
Highs
Very good picture quality. Long 6x optical zoom. Reasonably priced. Includes optical image stabilizer, optical viewfinder, manual controls and manual focus.

Lows
Flash is too close to where you hold the camera, possibly obstructing the strobe. Batteries may fall out of camera when changing memory card.

Bottom Line
This moderately priced PowerShot offers many shooting options, such as manual and exposure controls, plus practical features, such as an optical viewfinder, which can be helpful in composing in bright light situations. It also has an optical image stabilizer, which can assist in low-light shots. It had very good next-shot delay and good shutter lag. For such an inexpensive point-and-shoot, it's very versatile. For example, it can zoom optically while recording video.

Feel free to ask about any others you're interested in as well. I might suggest that you start a new thread so as not to clutter this one up to terribly bad.

Thanks alot TB, Ill take a look at the A720,

👍

I will make a new thread if the decision becomes more complicated 👍
