Can we not bring the Cobras power down instead? Dont want to drive a heavy Cobra :(

The power limiter alters bhp but doesn't alter torque properly. I was trying to find car/s to match the 'reasonably priced car' on Top gear a while back and this was consistently a problem trying to match the real life cars power and torque.

The reason for using the ballast was to close the PP gap between the cars in order to have them all run the same tyres.

The one thing with the ballast is you're free to put it where you like so whack it at the front IMO, it might be heavier but it could stop the rear from stepping out too easily.

I think it's because the restrictor plates in GT5 are silly and give a very unfair advantage. Either that or the PP system is silly... take your pick.

HondaAndy... apologies for not following this thread as closely as I had wanted. I have a couple of questions...

1. The first 2 posts are conflicting in terms of PP and what all is really happening? Track, cars (are they finalized?), what mods are/aren't allowed etc.

2. How many laps, what configuration will you be racing in? I saw some mention of running 2 races, driver/co-driver style, but nothing seems to have been solidified?

3. The race is anticipated to be happening this upcoming weekend pending PSN going live again?

4. I see 2 slots available, but on separate teams. Is there room for a team of 2 drivers (myself and a friend?) or would we simply be on separate teams?

5. Is there a provision on the PS3 to have a local chat where only my team member could hear me? Or is it only setup so everyone can hear me?

Thanks...

Yeah we'd need some clarification on what the final concept is. Will we be adding the times to one total time or how will it work?

I'm not really sure i'm gonna make the first race, something has come up this weekend.. sorry if this screws anything up. i'm still looking forward to be in the other races though.

Phouchg... Gumball! Man up! hehe, only messing, yeah if you can't race this weekend hopefully there will be more to come, or a different race structure.
It will be the time between the 2 races/ drivers on a team added up to give the teams time.
I hope you can race this weekend, lemme know if you can't for sure, via pm mate then I'll edit the list.

EivlEvo thanks for the Q's- I will edit the posts to make them more clear, hopefully tomo.

1- Mods allowed I mentioned end of page 3, initial post to be edited- I ha

2- I want to see two races, one after the other perhaps an hour for each race. One race for each driver on a team- it would be upto the team members to decide who races first and in the event of someone not turning up for the race, the other driver on their team would run both races.
Regarding the track I'm happy to hear if someone wants to create say 3 new tracks on the day ( no practice laps ) or just run Nurburgring.
We've a few days to hear ideas on this still.

3- yup, they said 2 days downtime which I think they've exceeded so I reckon they'll push for active again for the weekend/ less than a weeks downtime??

4- It would be great if you can race with your buddy, currently you would be on separate teams. Would you be happy to still race on different teams? If you like I could send a pm or two to try and juggle those spaces around though. let me know.

5- I don't know about the chat thing I'm afraid, perhaps someone can clarify though?

I'm certain the only chat available is open mic for the entire lobby. Will the other teams/cars be free to use ballast as they see fit?

Sorry guys, but I've just become EXTREMELY busy.
I don't think that I'll be able to do this one. :(
Better take me off the list.

1. Was your statement (#1) complete? It seemed cut off?

2. I think I'm sort of indifferent about the track. In reality, you'd have time to prepare for which track you'd be racing on so you had a proper setup. In videogameland thats sort of unrealistic since you can actually race a particular track then. That said... I think it would be the best to simply announce the track the night before, or day of or something like that...

I'm generally against a designed track just because so many of them end up so jackassey. However... the Gumball is about driving on "real roads" and as such... you may not have "track like conditions". So it might be worth running some made up tracks to simulate the roads.

I have no problem racing with someone else... but I know my friend would probably only want to race on my team... so if you ended up short... I could get a "whole team" but otherwise... I think it'd be just me.

3. My point was I guess that you plan on this going on this weekend pending the PSN and there's really an obvious answer to that I suppose. But I can tell you that my job is "living life by a pager" and as such... I couldn't guarantee being there at an alternate date. Though this weekend is looking pretty good currently.

4. I have no problem racing with someone else... but I know my friend would probably only want to race on my team... so if you ended up short... I could get a "whole team" but otherwise... I think it'd be just me. So I guess if anyone wants to switch to another team... go for it, but if not... Its not worth screwing the whole thing up for.

5. About that local chat/team chat thing... the only other thing I could think of would be cell phones. That would be something I'd do with someone I knew... but not with any of u chumps :P

Lastly... 6. If you will... how is the car thing going to work. Is each team required to use the same car, as in identical, or can each person purchase one and tune it to their liking? I mean... we're all working on the honor system here, in terms of not using air restrictors and/or the "zero ballast trick".

Do you plan on running it "rally style" or will we be all racing en masse?

I'm not trying to rain on your parade... I think you've got a handle on things... I'm just making sure I know what I need to know.

For the record, myself and my friend could be on any team as I have all of the cars in question. Or another (I'm sure) if there are more cars worth involving...

Very lastly... why are you using the Shelby instead of the AC?

Sorry for the long post...

if theres still the other seat in the merc available i know someone who'd probably take it, ill speak to him tonight and post later.

Evo- yeah I hadn't finished the post but I can't think what I was writing now.
The idea was whatever team you want to be on you need to buy the car and tune it up how you like, if you like you can contact the other team member and ask about their tune/ tell them your tune. If you wanted to between the two of you gift the car to the second racer, but if everyone has the car they need then if someone on that team doesn't turn up for the race the car will still be in the race. In this case the one- man team can race twice.
Yeah this is for fun really so I'd expect everyone to adhere to the rules of not using the power limiter.
Also as Mudd says everyone can use ballast, but in every other car than the cobra I would expect it to only be used in the case that a car has gone slightly over the pp limit- e.g. when you've broke an engine in and it's gained more power than you thought.

There's two races on the day- one for each driver on a team.

Regarding the cobra I found one to match the criteria and stopped there- I'll check out the other one in a minute- just checked this, it's because when I was looking I chose the premium models I could find. Do we want to use the standard model and get rid of the use of ballast??

Thanks for the questions- it helps me know what I've missed or not clarified :)

I think that if the PSN is still down tomorrow I'll change the race to the following weekend to avoid uncertainty in the race. Keep checking in here though :)

Thanks

I think we should have it next weekend. I'm going to Stoneleigh Car Show on sunday, because I thought PSN will still be down. Also, Niko wont be available. So ya. :)

Agreed, as much time that's already been spent on this, it would be wasteful to rush into the first race at this point. I think we would be better of just meeting up for some practice and testing this weekend (provided we are able to)

Race day is now the 8th as per the first post.

I've edited them again to not contradict each other- first post is race date, regulations, participation list.
Second post is car information.

Team Lotus- do you want to use the standard model Cobra so as not to need ballast?

Ugly car in standard. I drive in cockpit view :(

hello, so.... a bit longer than i thought i'd take but my mates up for the other merc seat so if its cool, stick number1_japan down as my teammate. cheers.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.

No race this weekend? that means i'm in again :) and with reapers new team mate i guess there is only one spot left to fill.

I wonder how the cobra feels when it's heavy by the way.. probably should try it some before the race. Hey TL we should meet some day when psn is up again and do some tuning :)

I would much prefer to restrict the Cobras engine to adding ballast...

:(

Yeah i guess the cobra feels all wrong with all that weight but with the power restriction maybe we'll have a big advantage because of the high torque. If only the PSN was up we'd be able to test different solutions.

The air restrictor is completely useless. Not only is there the issue of torque, but if I take a car that has a peak HP of say 900hp at 10,000 RPM and apply the air restrictor to limit it to say 450hp, it will reach its peak 450hp at about 5000 RPM. Compare this to a "normal" 450hp car which may only reach that peak 450hp at 10,000 RPM and you see why the air restrictor is silly (not just for this series, but in the game completely). Adding ballast sucks, because it totally changes the way the car handles, but it's a necessary evil here I think.

The only other option would be to purchase one new and just grind with it until it made less horsepower (ie trash the engine) and never change the oil. Though that seems a bit daft...

Sounds like a lot of work to ruin the engine that much, i guess we're gonna have to drive with all that weight. :/

Or we can use the air restrictor to about 500pp or a bit less?

Once PSN is back up, we can test it vs other cars in the series until we get a fair result

So does that mean you guys know when the PSN is going to be back up?

No but changing the date allows ppl to comment on whether they can race on the new date. If we have to reschedule 2 or 3 times then so be it, but hopefully they'll have it fixed after 2 weeks of downtime!

Regarding the cobra teamlotus I'm afraid it has to be a choice of using standard model or ballast.
Either that or going back to the idea of a higher PP level, and allowing the two cars that can't reach it better tyres than the rest.

I'mma cry then. How about I run it on Comfort Hards?

We might be able to change the PP and use different tyres, would you really prefer to use the basic tyres though?!

I've edited list of names on first page- EivlEvo perhaps you might want you + your mates name on the last part of the list in case we can get you on one team on the day?? Take a look.

Yeah... put me down for a plus one on the reserve list. Just so you know though... I think GoGatrs mentioned that he was out for this event (pg 4). That means there's still a spot on the porsche team and the jag team as far as I can tell...

I'd still really like to pop onto a team with my m8 though if possible...

Yeah I couldn't remember if it was because of the date that he couldn't attend- I'll pm him about it though. Hopefully we can accommodate that.

Pity the power system doesn't alter power AND torque - seems bit daft, although I know torque is mainly from engine capacity but even so!! weird.

I wonder about doing it at the Nurburgring, I wouldn'y say this if a normal racetrack was the alternative but it really is the ultimate road which is why all the manufacturers develop their performance roadcars there.

When I race there - apart from the first lap - I think endurance which I think goes well with the idea of this race rather than 1-2 minute laps on a standard circuit.

I'll be happy whatever I race and where to be honest though, get that Ferrari fired up!!
