TBH, knowing how much fun PD likes to have in attempting to consolidate groups from multiple classes and timeframes (see: Gr.1, Gr.B), here are my guesses regarding how some of the cars previously seen in GT6 would be sorted into the current groups in GT Sport:
-I know that in real-life, FIA GT1 wasn't that good versus the GT500 cars of JGTC/Super GT. But the fact they competed in the same class at all tells me that I think the FIA GT1 cars will be in Gr.2 with the help of BoP. Naming examples, there's the Mercedes CLK-GTR, McLaren F1 GTR (both the '95 and '97 Longtail versions), and the Nissan R390. This could also mean several other automakers could appear in Gr.2 with their respective FIA GT1 cars, such as Maserati, Porsche, Aston Martin, BMW, Saleen, Lamborghini, Ford, Dodge Lister, and Ferrari. (Note: a GT1-spec Ferrari and Lamborghini was in the GT500 class for the 2005 Super GT season. TIL!) Not to mention the JGTC Diablo GT1 that's become so famous in Gran Turismo. There is still potential for some other GT500 cars to return to Gr.2 from the Super GT era alone: The Toyota Supra Mk.IV from the 2005 season, Lexus SC430, the Nissan GT-R R35 from 2008 (which used a V8, unlike the newer car in GT Sport which uses an i4), the Nissan Fairlady Z (Z33) from the 2006 season, the facelifted first-gen Honda NSX, the Honda HSV-010, and even the brand-new Lexus LC500, as well as the formal GT500 2nd-gen NSX to compliment the Concept-GT that's in the game.
-The Super GT300 cars, such as the Subaru BR-Z, will definitely be added to Gr.3, as they typically race alongside FIA GT3 cars in real-life. The famous Hatsune Miku BMW Z4 GT3 is one such example. These GT300 cars would also likely include the Toyota Prius, Honda CR-Z, Mazda RX-7 FD, Lexus IS350, and the Autobacs Garaiya. (as for older JGTC GT300 cars like the Toyota MR2, I'm not sure.) I think it'd especially be neat to see the JAF-GT versions of some cars, such as for the Lamborghini Gallardo, Ford GT, Ferrari F430, Porsche Boxster, and the Corvette C6.
-Similarly, GTE cars will be in Gr.3, as we already have one in the form of the Porsche 911 RSR. One question I have, is that if this necessarily can also be applied to GTE's predecessor, FIA GT2? It could mean some really fascinating things for Gr.3, including the introduction of Panoz, Spyker, and TVR. Come to think of it, I wouldn't doubt it if older GT300 JGTC cars appeared here, too, (and similarly, GT500 JGTC cars in Gr.2) such as the Toyota Celica, Nissan Silvia, Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi FTO, and others I may've missed.
-As for Gr.B, I think there's tons of potential to reintroduce the FIA Group B rally cars from GT6 into this group, especially given its emphasis on resembling the real-world group. This by itself would allow Renault to debut in Gr.B, with the R5 Maxi Turbo, but would also have some automakers have historic models to compliment their interpretations of newer rally cars, such as for Nissan, Mitsubishi, Ford, and Peugeot. I think the initial Gr.B rally cars we saw based on newer models were mostly there because of legal weirdness regarding the licensing of the actual WRC series. There are also other Group B rally cars I'd like to see here to have some of the automakers in the game thus far be represented, which could even include prototypes or scrapped Group B rally cars that could be resurrected in the world of Gran Turismo. Potential automakers in Gr.B could include Mazda, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Citroen, Daihatsu, Subaru, the Ferrari 288 GTO, the Toyota 222D, the Mercedes 190E Cosworth, and the Porsche 959. Heck, I'm just reading that the Mitsubishi Starion 4WD was a prototype, and it's been in the series since Gran Turismo 4. That's before we get into automakers that aren't in GT Sport, but could return from GT6, such as Seat, MG, Opel, and Lancia (the 037 seems highly likely!). It would especially be great if the respective road-going homologation models could appear as N-series cars, too, even if only in a future GT title.
-I'm quite sure that DTM will be in Gr.2, at least the newer stuff. I am not sure if the older cars (e.g. the Alfa Romeo 155TI) would go here, too, or if they would need a new group. But I'd imagine that Gr.2 has an emphasis on high aerodynamics (and lighter weight) versus those of Gr.3, so I'd say maybe they could.
-I think another way PD could have fun with these groups is to take cars that were intended for these groups IRL, but never made it for whatever reason. They could do something similar to what we've already seen for the Gr.B cars other than the Audi Quattro S1 Pikes Peak, by basically creating a "what-if" sort of scenario. For example, the FIA Group B rally cars for Porsche and Ferrari, or the GT1-spec TVR Speed 12.
Here's what I'm not sure about, however:
-If/when the time comes, how will PD categorize the LMP1 successor? It's hypothesized it will likely include cars like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Mercedes-Benz Project ONE, and maybe even the Fittipaldi EF7 VGT. I'd personally love it to include the Gazoo Super Sports concept, as well. I wouldn't mind if it were rolled into Gr.1, personally, since we're already seeing something similar with Group C racers being alongside modern LMP1 cars.
-If there is a Gr.A and Gr.C, what sort of conventions would they follow? They could all be off-road classes, with Gr.A being for modern Hillclimb cars like the confirmed Peugeot 208 T16 or the older Suzuki Escudo, and Gr.C for rally cars before Gr.B, such as the Nissan Bluebird rally car, the Lancia Stratos rally car, and the Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR rally car. (It could also include other rally cars from that period, like the Alpine A110 rally car.) Or, they could be classes specifically aimed at replicating a historic class, though I think this already sort of falls apart since Gr.B has newer models that've been modified. Alternatively, they could be more specialized classes that collectively contrast with the tarmac-based, circuit-racing groups of the numerical groups - though I am seriously unsure what else there could be in this regard. Yeah, I think either more dirt/rally-based classes would go here, or they could be other touring car classes, though I'm unsure what other classes could be so different (at least, by PD's whimsical standards) they would genuinely need a new class...
-What do you think of the RM mechanic being used to turn road cars into their respective racing models? First off, I think that if all the RM and Touring Cars from GT6 return, I'd consolidate them as a singular RM group, and potentially sort them into various groups like Gr.4. I'd also make the various made-for-game racers, like the 4C Gr.3, be the results of using the RM mechanic. This would allow some made-for-game racers to keep some character even if their real-world equivalent was introduced. For example, in a hypothetical future title, you could pick between the actual Honda NSX GT3, or buy a normal 2nd-gen Honda NSX, and use the RM mechanic to turn it into the Honda NSX Gr.3 instead. (One could say something similar of the Corvette C7 Gr.3 if they end up adding the Corvette C7.R GTE.) You could also use the normal Alfa Romeo 4C to get the Gr.4 racer, but you'd need to get your hands on the Gr.3 Road Car if you want to use the RM mechanic to turn it into the Gr.3 car. One could even have this mechanic be used for the Gr.X VGTs, to turn them into their Gr.1/Gr.3 equivalent, like with the Bugatti or Toyota entries, respectively. Of course, this could be in addition to adding various quirky parts to your car like in GT6, and that would allow you to give your car further personality while still keeping it a road car in the N-series. Overall, I'd say that you'd have to buy the real-world race cars as-is, but you could alternatively buy a RM-eligible car and mod it yourself into that respective group, and potentially for slightly less credits. The made-for-game cars could also be unavailable at the respective dealership, allowing them to feel a bit more special and secret. (Alternatively, the made-for-game racers could be there, but not for sale, if only to subtly inform the player he can mod that road car into the race car.)
-I do hope that liveries both made by the player and saved from others (as well as decals) will be transferrable to the next GT game. I totally get that sometimes you can get some serious changes in the structure of a feature. But if GT Sport is meant to be more of a side-thing in the next game, I would really hope that the stuff saved on our profiles online could be transferrable somehow, especially given the fact we can go through our saved items on the official website. On a side note, I'd also like it if we could manage/create/delete folders from the site in addition to doing so in-game, and have "likes" given to liveries/photos on the site be saved on our achievement progress.
-Just what is going on with Lotus, anyway? I have a strong feeling that the reason we got the F1500T-A is because Senna's Lotus wasn't ready to return yet, and not necessarily because it's a Formula 1 car. Otherwise, why did Lotus appear in GT6 while the Ferrari F1 cars from GT5 vanished? If it was an issue with Formula 1, wouldn't the Lotus 98T never appear to begin with? I think it's an issue with Lotus itself, especially given that a Lotus Evora was seen in pre-release builds of GTS, but is nowhere to be seen in the final game. A Lotus Exige does appear as a playable vehicle in NFS Payback, though, so idk.
-Finally, I'd love to see more Sport Races not only include endurances (albeit maybe two or three hours at the very most, haha!), but potentially further restrictions for cars, especially given how inclusive some groups already are. For example, a Gr.1 event that could restrict you to older Group C cars, modern LMP1s, or Gr.1-spec VGT cars. Personally, I'd have a Sport Race for each class offered every day: Gr.1, Gr.2, Gr.3, Gr.4, Gr.B, an N-series class with BoP applied for that group and tuning prohibited, and a one-make Gr.X race. That last one could have tons of potential, given that there's not just the various VGTs, the kart, and the F1500T-A, but also neat Gr.X cars like the RS01 or the Honda 2&4 concept. And one of these groups could also be an endurance race, another could have the more funky options (e.g. an N300 race limited to Japanese cars, Gr.B/Gr.3 being limited to made-for-game modified road cars like the Mustang Gr.B or 4C Gr.3, etc.), and the rest would be pretty typical in comparison, more like the structure we have now.
