The NISMO time was run in the same way Ferrari took criticism for some years back (see Chris Harris' Jalopnik article) - the car being optimised for one specific test.

The NISMO GTR used for the 'Ring time has different aero, different suspension and, I quote from EVO, who recently drove the car, 'a set up specifically for the Nurburgring'.

That's hardly relevant, as even if the parts are available, no one is going to have their £125k+ car set up specifically for just one track.
I read in top gear that it can electronically be set up for different types of curcuits, being the track car of the best road car i could believe that. Surely it runs on adjustable coilovers and adjustable areo. The options list is pretty expensive and info you wanted aftermarket then you can pick up a GT3 spec carbon wide body kit from nismo them selves. (Only a 100k)

Then there is now the N-Attack Nismo GT-R which is exactly what Stotty was saying no one would do. In his defense his post was before it's reveal.

I don't think those are rich-fuel flames so much as some sort of metallic reaction from the catalytic converters. Gasoline doesn't burn blue, and these flames from the P1 and Aventador, etc, don't look anything like rich-fuel flames I've ever seen before. Plus, if these flames were caused by richness, how would combustion temps reach high enough to produce them? A richer mixture burns at a lower temperature.

Judging by the color and the fact that there are sparks in the exhaust I have to assume it's a side effect of materials used in the catalytic converter and mufflers. For example, my RX7 shoots yellow gasoline flames and sparks caused by the metal muffler packing. As of yet, I've not found an explanation for these blue flames on the internet.

I don't know about the P1 but I think I've told you before the Aventador is tuned to run rich to shoot flames like it does; a novelty effect.

I thought it was occurring mostly because how short the exhaust is in comparison to front engine exhausts, leaving less time for cool down. blue flame is a hotter flame correct? Also I've heard of people removing the cats on 430s doing this as well.

High end motorcycles produce blue flames readily as well.

Edit: Also Methanol burns blue in pure form, could they be using a fuel mixture often used for race cars?

I thought it was because mclaren put spark plugs in the exhaust pipes cuz flamez iz kewls dudes.

P1 front with 12c rear... I like it.

Heard that it's supposed to be the competitor to the 458 Speciale... But sticking a P1 front end on a 12C just seems lazy... Maybe more detailed pictures could change my opinion.

that looks odd and lazy, they only put the front of P1 to a body of 12C. Come on Mclaren, i thought you're better than this !

I think, in order for me to love this, I must wipe my memory of knowing what the MP4-12C and P1 look like.

(otherwise it just leaves a bad impression)

They've got a white one on the stand at the Toronto autoshow (and, somewhat more surprisingly, a 12C Sprint). Looks incredible in person; purposefully compact, and that back end is a work of brutal art. Definitely am sold on it now that I've seen it in person - not that it matters much, of course

Sure the 650s isnt another custom order like the X1 was? Seems like someone prefered the P1 but couldnt afford a real one.

It's possible but I doubt it. They wouldn't really show teasers for a customer car

Lewis Hamiltons Zonda was listed as a spec under 760LH based on the tricolore.
Yes, but that's Pagani- they love their single editions.

McLaren didn't really tease the X1, they just showed it off. I'd bet this would be the Speciale-fighter McLaren were set to release.

Maybe the face like MP4? (As that is a poor name even for a fax machine) 650S roles off the tongue better.

Watched the Chris Harris video last night... very entertaining (TG could learn a lot from Chris). Looks epic when in track mode!! I think he likes it... a lot :D

It's the only Hypercar I can remember seeing that you can drive like a mk2 Escort rally car

I also spotted this video of the LaFerrari...

1st impressions are it's not going to challenge the P1 as a drivers car... Seems to have a higher ride height and much more roll... leading to less stability both on corner entry and exit. Sound nice though.

Looked like he was having a lot of fun in race mode. :)

Ferrari test driver can't drift a Ferrari? Lol.

EDIT: They should put Chris Harris as a SIARPC on Top Gear.

Yeah, I think I meant race mode... the one where the car dropped to the ground on it's hydraulics and the big wing pops out of the back :D

Track mode race mode its all still good times. Would love to have that job of test driving cars like that. :)

I'd just love to have Chris' driving talent

You just shouldn't be able to drift a 900bhp mid engined car like that
