There's only about two songs I like by Slayer.

In other news, Scar Symmetry has been banned from my car stereo.

Scar Symmetry + High Volume + Mondeo =

I'm here to apologize.

I can remember a while back getting some Opeth on Diego's recommendation. I added it, listened to two songs (The Leper Affinity and bleak), and deduced that Opeth was too weak and even said something along those lines in this thread.

While cleaning up my library I came across some left over Opeth, and decided to listen to some of it. Man o man was I wrong, Opeth is absolutely stunning. I'm currently making room for them and a few other bands in my library.

I can't believe I ever said that :ouch:

Opeth is an absolutely magnificant band. Listen to "When", that song OWNS so hard it gives me chills every time I listen to it.

When you said Opeth wasn't to your liking, and knowing you like other death metal outfits, I supposed you hadn't really listened to much of it... I meant to flame you and later suggest other songs, but I never got around to it.

Some of my favourite songs by them are The Grand Conjuration and The Baying of the Hounds... in fact, there's a youtube vid about the drum track in Baying... amazing work.

Here:

In fact, that same guy (VacZ) has a bunch of posted vids of himself doing the drum track for Opeth songs.

Opeth were an absolutely magnificant band, you mean. Don't get me wrong, they're still awesome, but I can honestly say I nowhere near enjoy Watershed as much as their previous albums.

Still, seeing them live in September! :D

Well sorry for the late reply.......

Anyways, I managed to discuss with LdS about some of the bands I would liked to listen to, and right now I'm totally hooked to Asesino! :D (Dino Cazares FTW!) Also I found Hate to be quite good as well (but I don't think its everyones cup of tea) and well thats about it. I might give some of your suggestions a try (Opeth and In Flames) and also something that I found interesting, but not necessarily death metal (Rhapsody of Fire, Mezarkabul, Dismember, Brainstorm, Bleeding Through, Hellhammer, Decrepit Birth)

So anyways, thanks for your help and suggestion guys. Now the number of metal songs is getting closer to my indie/alternative rock songs on my iTunes playlist. 👍

Just curious but what is all of you guy's opinion on the new Slipknot single "Psychosocial" ?

Personally I like it as they have gone back to there older sound found on their "Slipknot" album that got them famous. It also mixes some of that clean Stone Sour sound. I have always liked Corey Taylor's voice and hopefully the album isn't out before to long.

Not a fan. The only Slipknot song I like is their cover of The Wall. I also think that Joey Jordison is horribly overrated. OMFG BEST DRUMMER EVAR. Hardly.

meh... I think Slipknot was made famous because of their outfits... and the music was alright. Look back and most bands wearing weird outfits usually get noticed: Gwar, Insane Clown Posse, Slipknot... I personally like about 4-5 songs by Slipknot, but this last one isn't one of them.

<cough> KISS <cough>

I'm not sure about the Slipknot song they played it on Radio 1 which made a decent change but I'm not a fan of their's.

I do however love the new Soulfly album a lot. Definately one of the best so far this year.

Well, we've finally got a full track from Death Magnetic called Cyanide. It's not bad - a damn sight better than all of St. Anger - but I'm not big on the drumming during the guitar solo around the four-minute mark; it just seems a little misplaced. Or maybe it's the guitar solo during the drumming. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Therion - Live Gothic

It's been out ofr a fair bit of time, and I hadn't heard it yet... I can honestly say it's really good. Even if you don't really like Therion that much, the instrumentality is awesome. As the title says, it's very gothic... the whole ensemble must be of no less than 12 people, but the concert must've been quite the experience.

I suggest people check out Maximum the Hormone

It's pretty good. Some growly parts, some harmonies, some parts where the female drummer sings.

Here is their profile from their myspace page
"How does the music composed of the essential factors from Loud Rock, Hard Core and Heavy Metal sounds? What does it sound like if growl, horribly fast rap and pop tune come together?
The answer is the sound MAXIMUM THE HORMONE bangs out! The lyrics written by MAXIMUM THE RYOKUN -guitarist and singer- are Japanese that most of the Japanese hardly understand. Songs are full of word games, humor and sarcasms. It sounds funny superficially, but venomous inside!"

My friend (from Japan) used to LOVE them. They had one song (can't remember the name) that starts off 'pop-punk' but abruptly switches to death metal

I've listened to their new album and personally I think it's too soft. I feel as though there are too many slow(ish) songs in there. (My opinion)

Oh and as far as your question. Yes Psychosocial is very good as well as Gematria. I may not like the softer stuff because all the Slipknot songs I have are very harsh like Pulse of the Maggots... People = **** etc. I'll have to listen to it some more.

For reference:

Gematria

Explain, this school computer has no sound!
It's an actual trash track by Metallica. Lars' drumming isn't what it could be and Hetfield's voice sounds a little forced at times - mostly the last few lines - but My Apocalypse is a thrash track that they actually have a go at rather than saying "alright, let's do a quick one for the fans", and for some reason it reminds me of Disposble Heroes (though I have to say, I like Cyanide and The Day That Never Comes more).
