Anybody know !T.O.O.H.!? I'm gettin' into them.

Encyclopædia Metallum lists their genre as

'Bizarre Progressive Death/Grind'

I have to say, if anyone here (besides myself) were ever going to listen to !T.O.O.H.! I expected it to be you. They're pretty hard to find, especially since they're not from prog metal gore land, otherwise known as Scandinavia.

Good listen. Although I haven't been able to stand them that long.

Emmure FTW!

I know, I just find it hard to believe that no one here listens to any hardcore. I mean metal is very close to hardcore, and in the US, hardcore is a popular genre. No one here has heard of Elysia? Knights of the Abyss? The Devil Wears Prada? Emmure? Blessthefall? All that Remains? The Acacia Strain? Through the Eyes of the Dead? August Burns Red? Between the Buried and Me? Suicide Silence? Bleeding Through? Liferuiner? Come on.

Only heard of and listened to All That Remains

Well I guess this is the metal thread for a reason. And not the Hardcore thread. You guys probably dont even know what a breakdown is.

Pretty new to the forum, noticed a link to this thread in someone's signature. I just had to click it, was way too curious to see what the metal community of GTP was like.

I, myself, am a huge metal fan. It's great to see some of these bands mentioned. 👍 Everything from symphonic black metal and technical death metal to progressive metal. I can find something great in nearly any genre of metal. :sly:

As of late, my favorite bands have been Arcturus, In Lingua Mortua, Ulver, Devin Townsend (Band), and Hieronymus Bosch.

Some great examples there, Accev 👍

May I recommend Coprofago? Chilean hybrid of death, prog and jazz... Also check out a Spanish band called Continuo Renacer, similar to Coprofago, but instrumental.

Fantastic recommendations, Diego, may I point you in the direction of the last page of the favorite album art thread. 👍 A Coprofago fan I already am! Unorthodox Creative Criteria is one of my favorite albums.

I noticed your Prog thread also, our taste is nearly identical from what I can tell. Kudos! Though I will say, I (slightly) disagree with Synchestra being a key album of Townsend's. All the same, it's still incredible. Hypergeek is one of the most fantastic instrumentals ever recorded!

Are you familiar with Oceans of Sadness, Melechesh, and Winds? If not, let them be my suggestions to you, sir.

I will check into Continuo Renacer. Thank you 👍

I think I'll do that. But to be completely honest, I'm not a huge fan of Townsend, don't ask me why, I'm just not. Synchestra may not be THE a key album, but it's important nonetheless.

are you implying breakdowns are limited to hardcore?

if so, you need some educating. almost every variety of music has breakdowns. trance has breakdowns. hip hop has them. pop music. etc. metal ESPECIALLY incorporates breakdowns. breakdowns are not just the part of a hardcore song that goes "dun dun dun, chug chug chug." most early hardcore bands didnt even have breakdowns, while many early metal bands did.

When I hear the stereotypical "metal" its mostly about super fast riffs. When I listen to the music of most of the bands that are mentioned in this thread, its super fast riffs. There arent too many portions of the songs that slow down, into some intense breakdown. And genius, if I was talking about Pop, Hip-hop, or trance, I wouldnt be posting in the metal thread.

I was simply commenting on the fact that Hardcore is typically defined as the type of music that puts more emphasis on breakdowns. Thats all. Im not trying to be a dick. Im not trying to imply that other genres of music dont have "breakdowns" (In the most literal sense of the term). Stop picking apart my posts just to try to make yourself look smart and to make me look out of place.

your post certainly seemed like you were trying to be a dick. but regardless, i have seen a lot of death and thrash bands and some metalcore bands discussed in this thread, and all three of those genres incorporate breakdowns heavily. (metalcore, too much, i'm sure we can agree on that.)

and you're right, "typical" hardcore has a huge emphasis on (simplistic) breakdowns. but mainstream bastardizations (hatebreed, comeback kid) are terrible bands to define a genre and it's unfortunate that's what hardcore is known as these days.

Anybody listen to SikTH? They're cool. Probably appealing only to guitar nerds or fans of complex arrangements. :guilty:

Diego, I only now read your post about !T.O.O.H.! .
I actually agree with that, I have a somewhat low tolerance for grind. btw, how many metal bands come from Czech Republic?

edit: holy crap, 707.

edit 2: I was looking up obscure countries, read this:

"SIISSISOQ is a young Greenlandic metal group, that put out their self-titled debut-CD in 1998 - leading to two months as no.1 on the Greenlandic Top 20. They played their way directly into the hearts of young Greenlanders with surprising lyrics (in Greenlandic), telling strange stories about animals and people.
The debut album sold more than 4,000 copies in Greenland (note: 50,000 people live in Greenland, so nearly one tenth of the population owns the album)
Siissisoq means "Rhino". "

There's a Greenland top 20?

Of course there is... it doesn't go week by week, though... more like century by century :dopey:

Have you heard Augury? It's a bit prog-ish, but goes into grind as well. Think of it as a grind version of Godspeed You! Black Emperor... they have about two good songs, IMO.

You know little or nothing about METAL. Listen to this and you will see. This is a band called Into the Moat, and (has Ion Dissonance and many others) is a Math Metal band. Do you want better breakdowns than this?

In the recent days I discovered a strange band called ASESINO. The members are well known:
Dino Cazares (from Fear Factory)
Tony Campos (from Static-X)
Emilio Marquez (from Sadistic Intent)
What a band:👍

Have any of you guys ever heard of Five Finger Death Punch? No weird sub genres needed here. They are normal heavy metal with a little trash thrown in. They kinda remind me of a mix of Soilwork and Pantera.

Rob Zombie is considered metal correct? I don't know why but all of the sudden I can't stop listening to him.
