We had our house built just over 8 years ago. 'Twas a fun experience.

In 2 weeks we went from just pouring the foundation to what you see here.

Don't expect that perception of work done to continue. Putting up walls, joists and plywood goes fast. Drywall, painting and finishes... not so much.

Yea, I can definitely see that once the shingles go on and the brick + rock goes on the outside will appear to move slow while they tackle the electrical + plumbing inside. Still, good to see the progress!

I cannot wait for the movie theatre room to be completed. We've got 6 Boston Acoustic Speakers going in the ceiling and a hookup for a subwoofer in one of the corners. Part of that technology package also wires the house with Cat5 and Coax in 22 other places in the house. It is going to be 3,000 sq.ft. of epic home ownership-ness.

When we re-did our basement I ran a couple of Cat5's for the Tivo and PS3 and thankfully everything else I have is wireless. I also ran (4) 14 gauge wires for some rear speakers while I was at it.

Four bedroom, two bath? If you don't mind me asking, what kind of pricetag does she come with (and if you do mind just tell me to mind my own damn business)? My wife and I are always looking at houses so it would be interesting to hear how the Upper Midwest compares.

We (the wife and I) both felt the tech package wiring the house was a good move not only for convenience but for resale value as well. It was a good package to spend money on. It cost us $1,990 (tech package) + $999 (speaker package) for both. I had the technology dude throw in the upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 and 2 extra speakers. I was stoked when he agreed!

If the market wasn't the way it currently is with the favor towards the buyers (us) the house normally sold in that neighborhood for $209,000. We haggled our way to $176,000 for the base house with no upgrades. We added the tech package, a jetted tube in the master bash and tile all downstairs and in the movie theatre, our "drive out" price was $182,000 on the dot. The monthly payments with taxes and insurance are only $250 more than our current 2bdrm apartment. I'd call that a good deal.

No, it is located north of Plano in a city called Little Elm.

The same house in Plano around where we live now costs literally $300,000-320,000. Yikes...

That same size house is what my sister and her husband are looking for in the Folsom area of Nothern California and the places are all in the 300s. A lot of times for an even smaller lot/sqft place. You guys are lucky it's still cheap there. Congratulations. I'd like to have my first house I buy to be built, but that's rare nowadays here in California - unless your swimming in millions or don't mind living in the middle of nowhere with your neighbors being the desert or the wind.

That lake is indeed open for recreation. There's some decent fishing and boating areas.

Plano is fantastic but crowded and expensive, as is Frisco. Depending on where you will commute to work to I could give you good recommendations for towns and cities to live in. As could McLaren since he lives around here as well.

Yeah thats about average for sydney, Most average display village type homes sell for $250,000+, Thing is im fairly sure our average income's over her in Aus almost double that of the states but we pay for things through the nose due to taxes & transport costs.

Glad we don't live in California. The cost of living is just too high and the higher wages dint really make up the difference compared to Texas. It's relatively cheap here minus a small few places.
