The slower cars need to stay.

@SHIRAKAWA AKIRA : That is also due to the fact that they use comfort tyres, which make the game twice as enjoyable. I don't mind having racing cars in the game but to me, a slow, underpowered car with arcaic suspension is the most enjoyable experience in GT. Racing cars can't do that for me.

I am certainly what many on this forum would simply brand a 'complainer', but in this regard I don't personally care that there are ridiculously slow cars in the game as long as they're not there at the expense of something that really should be in a racing game.

I must say that non driving game friends who do have a go on GT always seem strangely over-joyed that they can race the VW camper, at least until they have been driving it for 2 minutes . Then all of a sudden they want a real car.

I think there is a place for a number of slow cars, the real problem is that such low performance vehicles feel very very similar to drive. They don't have enough power to tax the suspension or tyres to a point where you can really feel a difference.

Which does suggest you only really need a small number to satisfy that particular driving requirement (in my humble opinion of course)

I'm sure they would get more mileage from including more classic cars from various countries that real people could afford & drive.

I would vote for the following from the UK....
Triumph stag
Ford Capri <- my first (and only) car 1600 GTX I think it was a 1976 model, I might be wrong on that front though :)
Ford Escort - various marks
Cavalier
Princess lol
Granada :)
Mark 1 Zephyr :)

I'm sure my European and trans-Atlantic cousins could add many examples of slightly crap iconic vehicles that would get a lot more use than a Mitsubishi Minica Dangan zz '89

I don't agree at all that those cars all feel the same. On the Kei cars you take as an example there are at the very least between each model significant differences in power/torque delivery and gearing which makes the driving experience unique for each one. And bigger, more powerful but heavier cars with a similar power-to-weight ratio again feel quite different on the road despite having similar all-around performance.

Perhaps you haven't driven them enough because you don't care about them much and therefore can't discern the differences. Personally I feel the same about high-end race cars, which I rarely drive because I'm not interested in them.

Fair point. I concede I really haven't driven them enough and if there are people who play the game that love them and can feel the nuances that make them different there's no need to take them out.

I really don't want to spoil anyone else's fun.

Right now I am just a bit drunk and want some discourse while waiting for the cat to come home. I am happy to be corrected :)

[edit] I'd still like to see some of those awful but wonderful british classics in there though :)

One more thing. The really slow cars like the Subaru 360 and Citroen 2CV have no place in a video game and need to go.

NEVER!!!

Demo a stock 2CV on the Eiffel track and enjoy, great entertainment between races, and what makes GT5 a GREAT RACING GAME!

I also host lobbies for old cars under 270PP on Nurburgring, so these cars very much need to stay, thank you. ♥

Why would you remove the very reason for so many fans to buy and love this game ?????

As DLC we want the T-Ford back, a definite buy for me, I would not buy if DLC contained only fast cars.

this game has TOO MANY cars with 750-1k hp

Around 400 seems to be my favorite. give me a good handling car with 400 hp and im a happy guy

Yea for me anything under 600 is really perfect, because they can still be fun to drive and not to ridiculously fast

It seems that GT Cars** (Grand Touring) is being forgotten about more and more in the GT series.. (kids these days......)
F1 Cars in a GT game... there are F1 games for that.

the GT series is a "driving" simulator (B-spec needs to die)
PD should split the game in two and sell a "racing" simulator aswell

**Definition
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a high-performance luxury automobile designed for long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.
The term derives from the Italian phrase gran turismo, homage to the tradition of the grand tour, used to represent automobiles regarded as grand tourers, able to make long-distance, high-speed journeys in both comfort and style. The English translation is grand touring.

2 points.

1)The tradition of GT racing stems from your definition of GT. It is because these high performance sports cars were high performance that they became so prevalent in racing and led directly to the current GT3, GT1 series that exist today.

2) If GT were a driving simulator there would be events in which you can just drive. Unfortunately unless you only want to drive the cars you can buy with 20k you are forced to enter racing events. 99% of the content of GT5 is racing related. You might see it as a driving game but PD only provided racing related content.

As an example create a new PS3 profile (no need to register online) and start a new GT game. Do not enter anything racing related and see how much driving in your favourite cars is possible. I know you won't do this, so I did it for you and provided a running commentary while I did so - here's the result of my experiment https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5819278#post5819278 can you do better?

Your points make no sense whatsoever, it looks like you play a completely different game than GT5. Ofcourse GT5 is a driving game with lots of opportunities to do just that.

1. F'ex thats the very reason I host low PP rooms on the ring, it's to take in the scenery while driving with my friends (the best part on GT5 in my book).

2. Offline: You got Practise runs, your own created tracks, arcade mode, and who said you needed to win races? Just take it slow and come in last place, problem solved.

My guess is you bought a GT game, but was expecting something else.

One of my favourite cars to drive atm, is a Schwimmwagen typ166 '42 by Volkswagen with 170 PP on it. :D 👍

Some of the most fun I have online is driving slow cars. A friend and me will do a custom track and drive ridiculousy slow cars around. You can drive race cars on any racing game but having factory cars is what makes GT5 unique.

I like slow cars, but the cars like some of the old Japanese 60's cars with 15 horsepower are too slow.

Can you buy and drive a Schwimmwagen typ166 '42 by Volkswagen without racing first?
When it came out, you couldn't even drive the Nurburgring at all without racing first. ;)

You can share your b'spec driver, and start earning cash without touching a single race. 👍

I'm going to share a moment from the automobile part of my soul:

There is something I have missed not only in the GT series, but from most of the racing/driving games on the market.
I became painfully aware of it playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer on the PS2 long time ago, althou I can do it in games like GTA but thats not a true racing/driving game.

The issue is split in 2:

1. I would love to drive odd cars (as well as motorcycles) with regular cars. Like a bus, utility vehilcles, garbage truck, tow truck, ambulance, police, fire truck, and big 18 wheelers (on closed tracks also).
http://www.granturismo5.us/?p=53

Look at the competition (not really competetive thou, loool), Forza 4 will have a list of unplayable vehicles they have taken time to render in full HD, but you can never touch. Talk about wasting time and players money, starting with this the list will contain more vehicles: http://www.vmotorsport.com.au/?p=2225

2. A human is built to some extent that it wants what it can't get ROFL! In Tokyo Xtreme Racer (best racing game outside GT) you had odd cars as normal traffic. I want to drive every moving object in a game I purchase, I don't like when vehicles (even with lower graphics) are offlimit to the player.

Discuss!

Here is a small list of vehicles i would love to tune and drive in GT5 (in preferred order):

Mercedes-BenzUNIMOGU1550LFire-Fight.jpg

I would pay for every one of these as DLC, no question.

This! I think this is why people enjoy older slower cars, becuase they're different and some of them are odd. No one ever takes a minivan on a dirt track in real life but you can in the game. I know exactly what you're talking about, driving odd vehicles around can give a great sense of enjoyment!

Fixed.
And those vehicles have no place in a racing game, period. It's like having brass knuckles in a pilot game, what can a pilot in a jet-fighter use brass knuckles for?
So you're asking for things the bulk of users don't want, and man-hours spent on cars that don't belong over cars that do.

I'd like a pink skirt and boobs for my b-spec drivers too.

If the game were more complete to start, these things might not bother so many people, but it's clearly taking to long for PD to make individual cars as-is.

You can share your b'spec driver, and start earning cash without touching a single race. 👍
And what does said B-Spec driver do to earn money?

It races, not you. Fixed.

Look at it as a screensaver for PS3. Why can't the PS3 do something while you're at school/work or doing something else?

You mean a "break my PS3 sooner because it's running 10 extra hours a day"?

It races because it's a racing game, stop being dumb about it, you know it's a racing game and we both know it, no amount of defense changes that.

Feel free to go back to topic, there's another thread you can get your "driving game" theory shot down in. :sly:

We are not discussing wear and tear here (a race car breaks a PS3 as fast as a slow car), cause this driving idea cover a genre not just for GT.

If you don't like to drive slow cars, it sounds like you have a Need For Speed. :sly:

You will never get close to shoot this idea down, it only grows stronger the more you play racing/driving games.

I know what I talk about, beeing a pure racing game fan for 24 years, and played just about all racers on the market.

Here is the first racing game I played, and it got me hooked in racing (it even had a damage model, licenced cars and interior views, R.O.T.F.L.):

 You can tune them up. The Subaru 360 makes an amusing drifter - I just golded the latest dirt drift trial in it. OK you struggle on long drifts but it's good fun.

I've said on other threads, one of my current faves is the Honda Z. Stock it is a bit pointless to be fair with 30HP or so, but full tune and weight reduction has 400pp and is good for almost 120mph on the downhill bits of the Nordschleilfe (you'll do a 9 min lap with R3 tyres). Such a good fun car, I use it to grind the last Kei seasonal too.

Variety is the core of GT and keeps the game interesting. It also gives you break after a frenetic Group C race:)

👍 Big smile at this :D

named GT, subtitled "the Real Driving Simulator".

PD made it for driving, before racing. I race only for a 20-40% of my game time. Every 3 or more wheeled, self-powered thing is good for me. I hope many people ask for variety. In GT5 they removed (sigh) Ford T, Daimler and Benz aunts and Auto Union Streamliner: what a miss :grumpy:

Before 1.06 patch, Fiat Panda was able to win, stock with comfort mediums, A-spec events. After 1.06, you can also win with other 1 liter cars. But who cares? Better a close funny 7th place race than an easy win.

Top Speed brought a Ford Transit (tuned) to the ring. There are classic Mini clubs that run there with 60HP. That's the right spirit, imho.

GT should preserve its 12 to 1500HP garage, without exceptions.

The 2 groups of players are easy to separate in online lobbies.

When I host and are driving along with my friends on Free Run. Someone joins that have faster cars than us, clearly. To meet the needs of our visitors I might upp the PP limit a tad and start a race. Me and my friends will happily stay in a group waiting for each other and take in the beautiful Nurb graphics, the racer type will then dissapear in the horison and ofcourse win the race. We are all happy and continue our driving either in a new 'race' or in 'free run'.

I could at any point in time, got one of my 2500+ cars (on 3 accounts) out of my garage, and probably smoked the competition because I have atleast some driving skills. But I rarely will do that, because driving in GT5 is more satirfying than winning a race.

What I am about to say, is not entirely accurate, but think about it for a while:

Having to win races all the time, is an obsession (most likely Jeff Gordon, Sebastian Vettel and others like them, have some of this obsession).

Obsession is different from enjoyment (almost the opposite), it is possible thou that obsessive people can enjoy what they do.

One more thing. The really slow cars like the Subaru 360 and Citroen 2CV have no place in a video game and need to go.
That's your opinion. I think they need to stay because they are also fun in their own way.

You seriously want to keep cars that can't even go 60mph?
Yes I do

Fixed.

Thats also your opinion and not everybody has that opinion. Theres also a bulk ammount of users want to keep the slower cars. Just because some of you guys dont like the cars doesnt mean they dont belong in racing games.

Oh don't worry, Slacker is like that :D Speed = everything to him. Anyways, without these cars, we couldn't have the shuffle races!

To be fair, GT5 and GT4 aren't an awful lot better in that respect.

Slow cars are fun to drive and make for close racing. However, there are far too many of them in Gran Turismo. Focus on a few popular models, then move on to more noteworthy vehicles.

Honestly, I'd rather drive an underrated, -200HP Japanese Classic than a fully tuned overrated gold Enzo.

No need to fight more! Just in this thread there is almost 1 guy (you can count more than 10, actually) who believe slow cars are fun and GT5 is a great game featuring these.

It's his opinion and nobody have the right to say 'I think slow cars have to die, so all of you will play GT6 with 500+ kW cars only'

Also there is people with OPINION slow cars have nothing to do with GT, so everybody must accept this.

I hate tuning, but I don't pretend PD remove it in the game just because there are people with this idea. Tuning adds variety in the game, and I agree it's there, even if I don't make use with some exceptions.

Please, respect each other. Having opinions and declaring them is very far from forcing everybody to have the same.

Also please note:
- GT series is mostly with low end cars, but every chapter had more supercars than competitors (same year competitors....)
- do you think GT5 is mostly a racing game rather than a driving simulator? There are real life racing series with 100CV only cars, so why be surprised if there are also in GT5?
- you are able to see every kind of car in the real Nordschleife, without limits. Why do you want to rob (not sure about this translation...) someone from doing the same in GT5?

I have nothing against slower cars, they are very enjoyable to drive and it's much more fun racing with them super fast race cars.

But if PD loose some of 34 Miata/Eunos/MX-5/Roadster in the game as some of them are pretty much similar, I think with something about 10 diferent Miatas we could cover all the range. And if we could have some other cars missing in that 24 slots remaining, that would be great. Like someone already said in this thread, if we had 30 very similar Ferrari F430 that wouldn't be fun either...

And there are great european and american cars missing that aren't "awesomely fast cars" like:
Ford Escort MKI
Ford Escort MKII
BMW M3 E30
BMW M1
Fiat 124
Fiat 131
Lancia Fluvia
Ford Sierra RS500
Ford Escort RS Cosworth "Road Car"
Opel Ascona/Manta 400R
Citroen Ax GTI
Citroen Saxo VTS
Jaguar XJS
Volvo 244 Turbo (opposite to the 240 GLT Estate :))
Volvo 850 Estate BTCC
Renault Megane Maxi
Renault 11 Turbo
Rover SD1 V8
Renault Laguna
Ford Mondeo

I mentioned a lot of european models has I'm european, surely americans have their "wishlist" too.

One thing I hated about NFS Hot Pursuit is the lack of an option to tune your car. You're meant to be a street racer FFS! And yet you're given access to Lamborghinis, Bugattis, Paganis...I doubt the vast majority of real-life street racers can afford such beasts...although video games do provide a break from reality.

Also, it seems that the most talentless idiots online ALWAYS drive hypercars - Murcielagos, Veyrons, etc. Kicking their asses with a Skyline is always satisfying.
