Anyway, don't read cupcakes, unless you want to, but is not exactly a pleasant experience, and yep, you can find it on ED, on the story archive.

I could have saved you some time and told you that all but two of them suck even worse than the original story.

After the fifth alternative story, I cant take it anymore, not because of the content, but because they are pretty much badly written, those stories provide very vague ideas of what I'm really looking for(except for the general consensus of what everyone wanted: a cheap way out ticket out of reality, a dream/nightmare). Apart from that, the characters are pretty much all messed up, Pinkie is not the same Pinkie of the series(on the original Cupcakes, at least Pinkie was Pinkie at some degree, it had some characteristics that resembled her and made her unique, regardless of being a loony), the same can be said about RD and Fluttershy.

For those reasons, my original thesis of being mental masturbations were correct, even if it sounds misplaced, is what those stories are, they don't provide anything that can be gain from the original Cupcakes, there is no profit to be gain in any level, is just a waste of time.

I guess that normal stories will be next, I don't want to read Macintosh yet, I will read Night's Favored Child now, is not that massive and the premise looks promising.

Did you get to A Precious Rainbow before giving up? Its not the most original thing in the world, but I think it did a pretty good job seriously examining the after-effects of what such a crime would cause on a small town without resorting to the "It was all just a dream" copout or the "Dash goes crazy" angle Rocket to Insanity used. It picks up right when Dash starts weeping about wanting to go home, and as a result does change the original ending a bit, but not to the detriment of the original story (for as little good as that is worth).


It even attempts to explain the cause of the events of the original story in terms of why Pinkie did what she did (albeit by rather clumsily retconning Party of One into the backstory, but still not doing that bad of a job, I think).

I'll mirror what seth said about this on ED; there is definitely a lack of Pony soundboard prank call videos on YouTube. If somepony does decide to upload a few which turn out to be as brilliant as those Arnold Schwarzenegger prank calls, then I would be pleased.

If nothing else, I think I'm starting to gather exactly what role Luna is going to play when (not if, at this point) this whole situation blows up.

A Precious Rainbow

I'll look that up after catching up with gamescom and some other spare time internet issues, along with Cupcakes sequel by Vladuke and Muffins, I mostly look anything directly related, but the possibility of more related content about it without direct references or without the whole grimdark theme will also work, A Precious Rainbow wasn't on my reading list though.


Apart from that, thoughts about Night's Favored Child:

Its reasonably good, however the premise seems a bit overused (Nightmare moon, Evil ruler bla, bla ,bla...) but the story in itself and the elements that have planted are very promising, the problem with it is that is not very well written(it could use some revisions), and it describes several situations from the The Cuttie Mark Chronicles, instead of giving them a unique perspective(the whole Twilight's magic burst is described in detail, something that I found pretty pointless).

Is not bad, but is also not that good, is not that long either and it could be used for entertainment in a coffee break.

Same thing but well written, and actually quite interesting, however in that one Pinkie is given the role of John Doe in Se7en(but without the incredible ending), which is not a bad thing, but it includes AppleBloom in a profane way?, which was somewhat unexpected.

The third one that actually was carefully developed, it deals primarily with the potential depression that Rainbow Dash experiences caused by the loose of her wings(way too soon in my opinion, post traumatic syndromes always invoke several familiar uncanny situation which are hardly overcome, in someone like RD this sort of thing is expect to be present before depression), but aside that, is actually quite interesting, and one part of what I was looking for in the "if" scenarios, it deals with the familiar environment as well, which makes me think that it was a bit underrated, probably for being an Alternate to cupcakes.

However this is only partial, I finished Part I, moving into part two tomorrow, I'm too tired to read it properly.

I look at the clock and realize that I spent 45 minutes typing out a comment for a story, including pouring over previous chapters looking for clues for an idea that I had.

All the fun of TNTNE without actually reading TNTNE. Have to say Macintosh's 5th place spot is looking kinda shaky at the moment, though I really can't say what story it is because I'm fairly certain MintBerryCrunch would murder me.

Actually, there's something really clever about that (that dissonance you noted was intentional), but I'm not so sure whether I should explain it until you finish the story.
