You're right in that it doesn't matter whether Thrustmaster uses a hydraulic pressure gauge, a load cell, or even a hunk of rubber or foam. The ultimate goal is to produce a brake pedal that you can modulate by pressure and feel, vs simply measuring travel. We haven't heard what sort of technology TM is using in the T500RS. I hope/expect it's something nicer than a pot.

I found nixim mod on the g27 works just as well as CSP load cell. Also CSP load cell is very cheap. CSP is adjustable yet I found nixim mod hardness is just right to simulate brakes.
Real cars don't have load cells. Load cell is one way to simulate real brakes. Nixim mod does the same on G25/27 brakes. The Perfect Pedal comes closer to real life since it uses fluid pressure yet it a little expensive. So there are more than one way to simulate something.

Where is it stated Thrustmaster isn't using a load cell? I like to know more about how they will simulate brakes. I like the idea of a "realistic" brake mod is removable since they are some of us doesn't want the brakes to be as hard as real life; like when racing without shoes.

In facebook page comments they confirm that the wheel can be bolted down as to not use the clamp.

Thrustmaster T500 RS ‎@ Maurice: yes, you can screw it to a racing cockpit, you don't need the clamp. More information about the cockpits coming soon.

My initial wish was for the DFGT with 3-metal pedals and a removable H-shifter, so this is right up my alley. I already bought a DFGT and built myself a homemade cockpit with some spare lumber I already had (only had to buy some long screws and casters... the rest was just labor using the OEM drivers seat and rails from my old Civic Si), but definitely want a wheel with all the PS3 face buttons built onto it.

facebook updade:

The T500 RS will be available from January 5 at the following etailers / retailers:
amazon.com, FRYS, MICRO CENTER, newegg, Buy.com and TigerDirect.com
Pre-orders at amazon.com soon (already available in the UK and in Germany)

See Facebook replies for some further info:

Ive contacted HMV UK customer services by phone today and again nothing on their systems yet.

UPDATE:
For potential UK Buyers:

Amazon.co.uk pre order @ ÂŁ449. (price may change)
Overclockers.co.uk has this listed ETA 28/01/11 priced at ÂŁ399.99

So much for the Press Release I read stating HMV & Amazon were the stockists then in UK, seems its not just limited to them at all.

meh, good wheel but too expensive. for ÂŁ500 you can get a fanatec gt2 wheel with clubsport pedals ,a shifter set (sequential and h-shifter) and xbox 360 compatibility:tup:.

Looking forward to info on this one, although at that price I can't see myself buying. =(

erm...

..ÂŁ500 and it's got plastic gears?

is this supposed to be some kind of joke?

all this hyperbole and marketing spin about metal parts and it got plastic sprockets/gears????

for ÂŁ500 i want titanium gears.. but i would settle at least for any cheap metal!

im sorry thrustmaster.. with that ridiculous expose, i'll keep my happ wheel (with large metal gears and belt drive)

this wheel has just lost all credibility for me- IM OUT!

Yeah really what is wrong with plastic if it is well engineered and strong?

If I buy this with my CC I will have 3 years warranty in total, a plastic sprocket breaking within 3 years means I get a brand new one :)

It's probably geared against a metal one. You do the math...

Supposedly no mechanical wear and tear according to Thrustmaster.... Also like the one guy said, its not out yet. I just picked up my first wheel and after 10 hours of play time and some license challenges, I am getting damn good with it and precise. I bought the DFGT for now to see if I even care for the wheel, and now that I do, I'm seriously considering a premium wheel. I like the magnet tech they have in here and the double FF band. I'm waiting for the reviews to see if it's worth the cash, and hoping the first price gets chopped down since many people won't fork out the cash for the wheel.

Actually it is clearly visible in the picture that the only thing in contact with the gear is a rubber belt, I would suggest that a plastic gear might produce superior wear life. Now if you want to complain about something in a $600 wheel complain about the rubber belt which will have a limited life most likely shorter than the plastic gear but wait if we did that we would have to complain about Fanatec as well, oh dear.

About what? The lower prices?

In that situation I have no doubt that Gates belt will outlast every other component in that wheel.

Gates knows a lot more about manufacturing drive belts than TM knows abotu gears, a lot more. They (Thrustmaster) would just need to pick the correct Gates Belt out fo the catalogue.

Now about those "plastic" gears, they better be made from a very durable nylon or they are going to be the first items to go south.

Thrustmaster are leaning the smae hard lessson that PD/Sony have learned - if you hype your product too much you WILL be held to the lofty heights you flaunted.

The problem with overhyping a soon-to-be-released product, is that sooner or later your HYPE will be exposed and the product will have that back that hype up.

It is a delicate marketing dance that hopes to garner enough sales to quash any bad press at the time.

The final product is going to be interesting to watch, that is for sure.

The Fanatec belts are made of carbon fiber. ;)

So who has ordered one?

Ive taken the plunge regardless of any reviews just no different really to when many of us were pre ordering a Fanatec wheel based on pictures and what was worse with those was paying up front many months in advance.

It is very likely it won't beat the Fanatec models in all regards but it could in some and with that FFB motor its going to feel unique.

Why preorder? Why not just wait for reviews? No reason to be 1st adopter and possibly burned on a fairly expensive piece of tech when there will be plenty of others and reviewers taking the plunge and putting out hands on and comparison reviews shortly after release.

I would not buy it just yet, because these wheels simply don't show all they can do on a PS3. I really like PS3, I like GT5, but every time I go from GT5 to a game like Netkar Pro with my GT3 RS V2, I am blown away by how much more precise and tight force feedback is on PC.
Until Windows drivers are relased, this wheel simply can't justify that price for me. It will also be very, very hard to compare these wheels until we get drivers.
At the same time I will be very thankful to anyone who buys it and reviews it/compares it for everyone else.

I doubt this is going to happen and even I have made a fuss over how much this wheel costs and how much I expect it to cost in Australia but I keep wondering what if the insidesimracing boys declared the pedals are every bit as good or better than Clubsport pedals and the wheel was the next best thing to an ECCI?

For all we know this could turn out to be amongst the very best PC wheels and relatively good value even at $600 or it might turn out to be over priced over hype crap. We will only know when people start to get their hands on them.

Simple, I like the look of it, have a DF-GT a G25 and a PWTS.
Like I said and based on the last flight stick they have done this should be pretty decent maybe even great.

If ISR say its bad from first impressions I could cancel the order.

I was considering improving my G25 with proper wheel as part of my cockpit ideas using Chilli's adapter the Real Pedal mod but all that would set me back similar money if buying a nice Momo too.

Looking at it that way it's not so bad I reckon.

Anyone else notice the line around the wheel grip? It looks like two moulded halfs glued together. I cannot see it in any of the other photos....

I think that's actually the line from between the 2 halves of the mold, and it's one single piece, however, it being there at all confirms that this is not a leather wheel, good catch there. I'm guessing it's some sort of rubberized plastic like the DFGT, or in fact most cars.

Thanks, it seems you have also confirmed that it appears to be not leather which is a real shame. Along with the plastic parts above this could be a real nasty peice of plastic, I sure hope not.
