Official Stewards Decision (due to majority vote)

The change to a 2005 BMW M5 will be allowed. Please bring it to the scutineering tent for your stickers.
its there :D

jw is anyone else with turbo cars having this problem or is it just me
i know this kinda happens in real life for example my mates leon when it had a k04 peaked at over 20psi then stayed at around 16/18 psi to the redline, but never all the way down to no boost :(

Bad news people!

it seems that the cobra was left behind in Japan!

They will be flying it over, at no cost to me, but it may not get here for a couple days! They had to pull some weight off of it to get it on the plane, so i guess that's my Laguna mod! That will teach me for trusting loadies!

well im having a problem with the RS6,since ive changed the turbos, the turbos have started losing boost the higher up the rev range from 2500rpm you go till you get to around 5500rpm where it is on no boost at all till the redline, where as with the stock K04 turbos it ran full boost the whole time:guilty: also doesnt feel as strong too
Stock K04 turbos
Stage 1
thought it was an air flow problem so stuck on a racing intercooler and was still losing boost
then i decided to do a drag racing test down the le mans straight with the RS6 and my little brother in stock E55,in first and second when the audi had more boost it pulled away fine and kept a lead, but from 3rd onwards where the cars are higher in the rev range and the audi losing boost the e55 just went by the audi :(
only thing i can think of is to keep it on the stock turbos but then it will be extremely fair behind everyone else and not be competive
my proposal to eddie and the stewards and only trackday people is a change of car.
A 2005 BMW M5 with the same upgrades as the RS6(racing flywheel, sports clutch,S1 tyres and NA stage 1)

p.s. the second video is on youtube as putfile went down half way when i was uploading it

edit: video now on putfile and in synic :)

Hmm, the story about losing boost seems a bit suspect to me...Why not just put the stock turbos back on and change a different part? Handling components perhaps??

The stage 1 gt4 turbos will give you a different power delivery to standard and wont feel as smooth, you WILL get more power somewhere in the rev range though. I would have kept the standard turbos and changed something else...

Seems like because you dont like the stage 1 turbos you want a change of car to a machine which is a lot more capable!! (and lets face it the M5 is...)

Nothing to do with me anyway I suppose but would have had more respect if you had persisted with the RS6:tup:

i did try to solve the problem,i.e. thinking it was an airflow problem so i cant the intercoolers, tried the other stage turbos.
only place it gets boost and power is at 2500rpm then it just goes and tails off
test a few of the other turboed cars in my garage in various states of tune(skylines,supras,3000GT's,caterhams,320 touring car,RS4 etc) and they seem to stay at full boost.
the problem with upgrading the handling is a fair point but then again you can only have sports suspension and even then i dont use it and usually keep my cars on standard suspension, and then also as the series progresses the other cars will get more and more power,i can only to the port polish etc whish only gives around 10bhp  and i also never use weight reduction also,as when driving a car so much with standard weight you get used to it.
M5 was my main second choiceas its staying in the area i want(ubersaloons) and fair enough it is more powerful than the RS6 stock(450 compared to 507) but then it also weights around the same(M5 is 1.8 tons same as the audi) :)

GT4 has a boost gauge built into the screen for Turbo cars, is that not showing any boost?

Fair enough you have moved to the M5 now anyway, I really would reccomend using the sports suspension and weight reduction mods though, you WILL get usefull reductions in lap-times and although basic the sports suspension teaches a lot about car balance and is easy to adjust etc....

Will have a quick look at the RS6 when I get chance later.

I saw the videos of holdenhsvgtsr's RS6, and yes, it was losing boost, it was quite drastic really, going from full boost to NA (or negative boost) quite soon after 4000 RPM. That car was pretty quick, so I don't think it is a ploy to get a faster car.

Well the cobra has arrived, ahead of scedule! However it's a slippery little piece of work! The words that were most uttered during my good lap were "holy ****, traction! WOOHOO!!!"

img00062od.jpg

Now how the &%^@)@^#$ did THAT happen (I still don't know!)

img00078aw.jpg

Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooah!

As you can see, I'm having a little trouble taming the beast!

Scaff: sorry we had to move on, but we needed to keep the momentum going. I was concerned about people losing interest...

Let me know what day you are due back, and I may be able to give you a chance to post late. Tricky with the points, though.

Thats not a problem, I understand the need to keep things moving.

I'm not due back from Leeds until Friday night, then I have to go back on Sunday afternoon. So I will let the times for Laguna Seca stand.

I will be back from Leeds (finally) on the 7th (Wednesday) so will get time to run at Tskuba wet then.

On top of this I will have Tourist Trophy waiting for me and no time to play it until the 7th. God at times my job sucks.

Regards

Scaff

... and i also never use weight reduction ...

Oh dear! No wonder you're the slowest millionaire in the thread! You buy a ridiculously heavy over-furnished dog van, and refuse to lighten it! You'll never get that job at Lotus!

Check my sig for latest times (updated to this post).

Scaff: I'm sure you'll be busy with 'family duties' ;) while you are at home, but, just in case you do get a chance, I will wait till mid-day Sunday to post the final results. Have a good week!

And love the pics, Holden and Goose! great stuff! I have got to to get a Maxdrive!

Yeah, I want a maxdrive too!

boomboy, you can have 1 more mod, as you came in late, and missed Sukuza West Course.

Boomboy was there, Goose, and very quick he was too!

Nice time, boomboy, you can really hustle that Focus along!

Holden, I drive vans at work, why would I want to drive one at home too? Plus it's FWD, which is never a good thing.

Out of interest I had a look at the RS6, set it up with the correct parts and did a couple of tests.

1st was a high speed test run, with standard turbo Vmax was 188.95mph, a quick switch to the stage 1 turbo gave an improvement to 192.27mph, more importantly it reached the previous max of 188.95 much sooner around the test track's long curve.....

I noticed the boost falling off on the screen gauge but didnt notice any drop in performance of the car, the surge after each gear change at about 5000rpm felt stronger with the stage 1 turbocharger fitted.

I then took the car to Laguna Seca and ran 5 laps first with standard and then 5 with stage 1 fitted

Best time standard turbo's - 1'39.253
Best time Stage 1 turbo's - 1'38.047

After running with stage 1's I then reverted back to standard to make sure it wasnt car familiarity that was bringing the laptime down....

Have to see that from testing the stage 1's show a worthwhile gain all round (1.2s a lap is well worth having) and seem to suffer no side effects as far as I can see, they are quieter than standard and yes the boost gauge seems to drop off but performance is not affected.

Also worth noting that after a quick tune of the sports suspension this car feels much better than standard, I had to drive it with a brutal approach to get anything out of it but it started moving around quite nicely once some of the understeer was tuned out.

After the RS6 I jumped back into the Renault 5 for 5 laps and wow, what a difference, the 5 feels like its made from old coke tins and egg cartons......wait - it is!! Seriously though the steering felt so responsive and the light weight made the car feel extremely adjustable, sometimes its only when you drive big heavy machines that you appreciate the light nimble ones...

Found the best approach with the 5 was to turn in early, let the oversteer flick the back round and get back on the power, most corners being either 3rd or 4th gear made for an entertaining lap, best time of 1'41.773, was up on that by a full 1s only to loose it later in the lap, so a sub 1'40.000 does seem possible!

One thing I asked myself,, sports suspension is stock right?,, Is it allowed then to buy a semi-racing suspension for your only modification? Might wanna join too:)
Edit: I meant semi-racing suspension ( me = idiot) :)

Semi-racing would be fine as your next mod, Deathwish. Joining here at Laguna, we'll allow you 2 mods (one for Suzuka and one for Laguna) so you're not at a disadvantage to the rest of us cheating reprobates. What cars are you bringing to the party?

I hope you can follow the rules: they seem complicated, but with such a variety of cars available, we had to do something to make everyone competitive in anything. Scaff messed it all up, of course, by bringing his Gran's car :D

Come along in, Deathwish, the racing's lovely and warm...

Holden

[INTEREST] Oh really??!![/INTEREST]

Just had a good session with the Renault twins, took 1.1s out of my Clio time by spending less time on the throttle:crazy:

Took .6s out of my Renault 5 time by just being smoother and nailing more corners than last time.

Im not sure how much more can come from the two french hatches, so going to spend some time with the italian one and see whats possible there now...*EDIT* had 12 or so laps and improved by just 0.003s in the Alfa...that was from realising 3rd was better than 2nd for final corner, will be into the 1'45s when I get it all hooked up.

Replay files, lap run down and final times to follow...

cheers
