Alfa Giulia Sprint with GTAm V6 swap.
One stop race end of lap 6 for tyres and fuel.
This car handles very well using SM tyres despite having no front downforce.
I Kind off messed up the final timing sheet but the important parts can be seen.
can you please share setup?

The Mustang's tune:

I only ever do this race these days when it is part of the weekly challenge and use the Escudo.

On my alt account I don't have one yet so I gave the Mustang tune a go.

God damn that is fun. Just need to work on getting a CRB with it now.

Hi everyone,

this time I wanted to keep things deliberately simple: a used Corvette Z06 (C5) ’01 for 56,200 Cr., add nothing but Sports Soft tyres for 3,800 Cr., and take it straight into the WTC 600 at Tokyo Expressway.

No power upgrades, no suspension tuning and no differential changes. Automatic transmission, no driving aids except ABS.

The question was simple: what can an almost completely stock C5 Z06 really achieve with a total investment of just 60,000 Cr.?

A big thank you to everyone in the GTPlanet community who took the time to read the whole post.

For me, this little experiment shows one of the things that makes GT7 so interesting: sometimes you do not need an elaborate tuning package – sometimes it is enough to take an interesting car and simply find out what it can already do in almost stock form.

I’d be very happy to hear your thoughts, experiences, suggestions, or similar car ideas for the WTC 600.

I love your detailed analysis.

This further proves that the driver makes the most of the effort, not the setup. Sure, one can improve a car in all its aspects, but a good driving technique makes the most out of the tune.

Here's one thing that has been running in my head for far too long; and I apologize in advance as it will sound condescending.

Too many players relying too much on racing soft tires on a tuned road car, yet when faced with a PP restriction, it seems that all hope is lost on them. There is a reason why road cars on license tests are using the default tire set they have - to teach the basics. The Mission Challenges also teach the players how to strategize on fuel and tires. Sports Hard making it too difficult to turn? Then work on your suspension and perhaps a little bit more of practice on weight transfer, braking points and turning.

That specific WTC 600 race does not ask for a good tune. It rewards careful strategy and refined technique.

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback — I really appreciate your technical perspective, and I completely agree: a good setup can support a car, but in the end the driver still has to understand how the car, the track and the strategy work together.

For me, that is exactly what Gran Turismo is about: first understanding what a car does in stock form, and only then deciding whether and where anything actually needs to be changed. That is why, for me, the first stint should always be Out of the Box — as a baseline assessment to establish usable reference values.

Only after that do lap times and driving feel show where the driver and the car are actually struggling. That is where setup work should begin: not changing things for the sake of it, but making targeted adjustments so that driver and car can work as one.

Thanks again for the respectful and technical exchange.

Racing softs should be a point to be shamed by the community, so that maybe people start to veer away from them.

This race is so easy on Sports hard that is a shame people are losing out on trying out just different cars.

You know the CUV's everyone hates?

Pick the Pegeout 3008 or the Mazda CX-30, give it some parts, sports hards and off you go. They can easily do this race.

I'm not sure what car can run RS tires for this race and meet the PP requirements while still being competitive. The only car I've tried with Racing tires on it is the NA Miata. And that was on RH tires. Super sketchy first couple laps and you are a ping pong ball when you get stuck in traffic.

Racing Softs have their place. Bonkers, impossible time attack cars surviving endurance race lengths are as much a part of GT as everyday cars and JDM stuff.

I think the issue is that drivers fit these first before learning to drive.

As @Tommy_D mentioned, Racing Softs don't make sense 99% of the time for this race.

More races with Sports or even Comfort Tire restrictions could go a long way in teaching the community to drive. No need for shaming. Just given them really fun and rewarding (and decent paying...) races that feature these tires.

I think PD was nudging us toward Sports Tires for this race in particular because of tweaks to how Racing Tires handled in the wet as well as how Intermediates burned up very quickly. That made a bunch of old grind builds unviable.

Honestly, this race is one of the very few places in GT7 where Sports Hards make sense competitively and actually feel good to me.

Well, with the speeds this race has you can add aero to increase your downforce and Sport Hard tires can handle the bends at very high speeds easily. It's mostly just the first lap that has any grip loss due to the rain. That's what makes the NA Miata challenge really difficult. After that it is basically a dry track and you dominate in the turns over everyone else.

I did this race again for the first time in a long time since it's come up in the weeklies and it wasn't much of a challenge at all. I remember it being more difficult in the past.

I used the 992 Turbo detuned to 543hp on SH tires. No mods except a duckbill spoiler and wheels. One stop for fuel, no tire swap. Won by 30 seconds.

There are a TON of cars that do well here. I've done it in the AMG GTS, LFA, 911 Turbo, GT3RS, GT3, E46 M3, R8, FL5 CTR and a bunch of others. If you take something that's already relatively quick, make sure it has a decent top speed via transmission final drive adjustment, and tune the power on SH/SM tires to right at 600PP, you should be good to go.

No, @rheinaoi, we must shame all into obedience ahaha.

I get what you're saying and I agree, but to have most people not want thebestpossibleparts™️is quite hard

Jaguar XJ220 - Bone Stock
26:51.100 Race Time
2:09.559 Fastest Lap

Yeah, this car has no business being this fast bone stock. A bit of understeer but still very stable with weight transfer and under heavy braking. It keeps some pretty good corner speed as well. Pretty good on fuel and very easy on tires. Maybe a racing transmission and gearing adjustments along with some fuel savings could lead to a no pit race but it sounds like that isn't going to be any faster than a quick "splash and dash" pit stop. For a first run it was about as easy to drive as the low power 4wd Lambo I posted above. I would be curious to see what this car can do with some mods
I didn't see your post two years ago back in 2024 when I was trying to first give it a go, but ultimately I failed to do any better than 7th with another car.

But today I found your post, after finally I successfully got first place yesterday with the "stock" XJ220 on sport tires.
I confirm and reflect your observations:

This event is actually easy with the Jag XJ220.
Clean driving, no wall Riding.
Pedal to the metal, but make sure to brake at the right spots and you will be smooth and fast.

Easy peasy with the Jag.

THIS. This is the common denominator.

Slap on the most expensive parts before even driving the car stock and label it as either "great" or "crap". End of day.

And then when they face restrictions they are all scratching their heads.

Let's not gatekeep them, however. Help those who want help (and deserve it).

Huge update for the tire and fuel modifiers.

Wow, so now no more Softs of any kind, huh?
And those gaz guzzlers that were weaker cars tuned to the max can now be used more aggressively.

I wouldn't say its an all bad change.
Pity the Fuel strategy might have been removed though, as this was one of the races that made people conscious of fuel.

So here is my observation so far:

- NO STOP runs are guaranteed. Provided you run on Sports Hard. Plus, a lot of cars can be buffed further to 600 pp, and those detuned supercars can be ran much faster.

- Due to physics changes, lap times are actually slower.

The AI on Hard difficulty run 2:13s the fastest. Gallo now pits on Lap 7.

Strange enough, Kokubun sticks to 4th gear on the main straight.

So in short, the race is actually much easier.

I ran this race 5 times last night. I had a feeling the update would wreck it, or at least wreck the challenging aspects of it. It's kind of sad, I liked the tires/ fuel/ top speed balance requirements of this race. it seems like they just dumbed it down and made it a lot easier. I guess maybe a positive is that it opens the opportunity to try different cars that weren't viable before. 🤷‍♂️

Had to try it. I won with drafting and late braking. Yeah this is a totally different race now.
SH tires, low comp supercharger, suspension, brakes, etc., but no irreversible engine mods.

As I ran the Jaguar XJ220 right before and now after the latest 1.71 update:

1a0208be46d99-screenshotUrl.webp

For the same setup,
The PP before was 599.59 with SH tires
The PP after is 601.50

Nothing that can't be resolved with getting fatter, so naturally i added some weight to bring the PP down below 600PP.

The biggest shock for me was the no refuel, and yet the top 2 cars I was chasing during the first half of the race both went into the pit, on lap 6 and 7 I believe...
So I was leading on lap 8 and onward until the end... Easy cruise.

The race was completed with only and exactly half the tank used.

Yesterday prior to the update, it was already easy with the Jag XJ220, but today it is even easier....

I was pretty sure I would get a clean race, but I guess I might have hugged a couple walls more than I realized..

NGL, today I actually miss the OG parameters of this race; the 5 sec penalties and damage for just touching the rail guard and/or the AI cars, etc... that was high tension, anxiety inducing driving stint!
Yeah it was hard core. And the release ver. GT7 physics were a lot more like they are now, all squirrelly!

I tried the Caterham with only upgrading the tires to SM. Unfortunately it’s straight line speed maxes at 156 mph. Just couldn’t catch up to the front of the pack and took 5th place 20 seconds behind Koku and the gang.

I was very surprised to see Gallo only put once. That’s something new from him.
