I have been getting asked this question non stop since Forza has been released.
"Should I get the X-box and Forza"?
The answer is YES if you are going to purchase X-box Live
If you aren't going to play purchase X-box Live then I would say its debatable.
Listed below are some of the highlights of Forza. Please add more as you think of them and ask questions.

1. Very impressive physics that are better than GT4
2. Tire marks
3. Buy and sell your cars online with friends or anyone
4. Very intelligent AI most of the time
5. 600 vinyls on one car (Many examples here)
6. Very impressive exhaust sounds
7. Car damage like engine damage, suspension, body, brakes, and transmission
8. Play your career mode online against real people
9. Engine swaps on some vehicles
10. When you buy upgrades, your cars value increases. Very realistic
11. You can sell parts off of your car and get the money back
12. Any race you do or attend is added to a scoreboard online automatically and people can try to beat it even if you arent online.
13. Autocross events are soo much fun!
14. You can have hot laps with your friends time even if he isnt playing. This means no more posting your times online in GTP in a thread.
15. You can save other peoples settings and their ghosts.
16. More realistic physics than GT4 (proven many times)

These are what I can think of in just a few seconds off the top of my head.
Conclusion. Get the x-box and get Forza if you plan on purchasing X-box Live.

I think this game would pretty much make anybody really want live... but why are you saying no without live? I don't have live and I love this game!

If you get live you will REALLY love the game. Without live is no comparison at all but I am glad you are still enjoying it. Get live and you can buy some of my cars or I can buy some of yours. 👍
I coudl build you a car with the graphics you want. Then you could buy it from me.

I also dont have live, this game has got me seriously re-considering getting it. tandem drift runs...hah, imagine a drift run with a string of 8 cars

question about live? can you password protect live access so I could prevent my little brother from jumping on there all the time?

That just reminded me.. Driftgod and I were racing the new Camaro and New mustang on Nurburgring (I had the Mustang) And we had soo many side by side drifts. :D
You could get 8 if you had some really experienced drifters.
You shoudl get live. Its less than $5.00 a month. Yes you can password protect your account but im not sure if you can prevent him from getting on there. Seems like there should be a way but I have never had to mess with it.

awesome thats all I needed to know, now i just need to get something to hook my xbox up to the wireless network in my house, plus the live headset...$$$ its only money :D i can always just disconnect when Im not on there, or just not tell him I got live

Modded XBOX with 120GB HD, they won't let me on LIVE :(

Thanks for the offer of painted cars, but check the Forza gallery thread, I like to paint my own :)

Yeah those were nice. I replied in their earlier and directly complimented you. Post 60 in that thread.

Im gonna resist the urge to go out tonight and spend $120 on the wireless network adapter, plus the headset and network cable, im goin to get everything I need on ebay.

Camaroboy, can you save multiplayer replays? If yes then I'm getting live tonight :). I can record movies and games with my tv tuner, i dont use it for screen capture since its in another computer. Then i can post vids on yousendit.

I am not positive about that. I know you can play anyones replay from the leaderboards which is just unbelievable. You can also load their cars settings and their ghost. With that said, there might be replays but hopefully someone else can confirm that information.

PGR2 had the same thing, if you found it hard to believe someone lapped that good you could simplly chosse the top record and press y or something and it loaded the race to watch.

What did you do exactly to your X box? a HD upgrade shouldn't keep you from XBL unless it's a unrecognized third party HD.... I've got a 16GB HD and a 733mhz 128kb cpu and it never banned me...

I personally love the ring on that game. People say it's unrealistic, but it doesn't seem to negate anything from it at all. The bumps give a great feel to the track, and in some cases force cleaning driving (especially the steep ones that will send your nose airborn)

Well besides a mod chip that's hard to turn off (Matrix mod) I thought MS was banning people for having larger hard drives around Xmas?

Camaroboy I saw that threat, just didn't put 2 and 2 together :) Thanks for the kind words!

The game is fun and yes the sounds and options seem to be better then gran turismo 4, but I would still take GT4 over it because it just seems to have better physics TO ME (Please don't turn this into an argument, just my opinion). But then again I use the wheel on GT4 and controller on forza so that may be it. I also play with all the aid off or simulation just to make it more fun.

The main thing that pisses me off is that the AI always seems to ram me or spin me out. If I hit a wall at no matter what speed, it always seems to throw me in the worst direction. I know I shouldn't hit walls but I get damage so it shouldn't throw give me another penalty.

I rented it and have it on my xbox but will probably buy it in a couple weeks once I get a little better. Microsoft will only ban if you have your chip on, if you register live with one harddrive and change it later and go on again, that will eventually ban you also. i go online with halo 2 all the time and sometimes PGR2 and have yet to get banned.

Forza is an awesome game for its first. I am sure if their is a second one then it might or will be better then the gran turismo series.

And also, one thing I like a lot better then gran turismo is that the wheels don't spin with very little horsepower. Cars wheels in gran turismo seem to spin with around 200hp in a civic and is really ridiculous. In forza they do spin but only at higher horsepower and when VTEC kicks in in civics and integras.

I agree. GT4's physics engine is substantially better than Forza's IMO. I'm not knocking Forza, but I've raced identical cars on identical tracks with both controller and wheels, and GT still pwnz in the driving physics department. Not that Forza's is bad (far from it, as a matter of fact...), but GT has had eight years and six games to get it "right" and they've done just that. Forza needs a sequel or two to nail the physics.

Yes - you setup a 4 key press code as your password to live. Not hugely secure to anyone persistant enough to try every combination, but they'd take a while to find it.

alright, another question for you live players about all those free 2 month trials you recieve with every new game. do they force you to use a provided screenname, or can you choose your own and keep renewing the account so to speak every 2 months?

I have the wireless network adapter and a 3 month starter kit on the way today probably, purchased from ebay last night so I should be up and running on live next week.

Thats not true, most of the time.
Unless it's modified to such extent the only thing it shares with its non modified version is it's exteriour design.

No you get to pick you user name. Make sure not to pick something that sounds retarded because you can't change it once you register it.

After the 2 month trial is up you pick witch type of subscription option you want, ie. monthly, yearly, or code from the starter packs. You can not just keep using 2 month trial cards though. Well you could but not without a whole lot of hassel and proxy knowledge because they log your ip with you specific machine.

Anyways, I've just rented Forza. I decided to rent it to see how much I would like it and if it's worth the buy price. So far though I'm very impressed with how interactive it is with Live. Most live interactive game I've played. I'm trying to get used to the physics and this cursed trigger accel. I much prefer the A button and I'm quite shocked you can't create a custom controller layout. That's the only turd I could complain about so far.

oh....i thought that was the point of them, you could use them instead of having to pay for service, sort of as a reward for buying more and more games or whatnot. looks like I only get 2 months free because i dont like hassles and dont have proxy knowledge. I imagine that 194GVan will be available so that will probably end up being my username.

Does anyone know if anywhere will be selling a Forza + X-box package in the UK?

The nice thing about x-box is the name you make is the name same name you use for EVERY game. No matter what game you play or what you do, the name you pick represents you. You never have to type it in again. This is what makes it so nice with x-box live. You dont have to make a new name for every single game you play like you do for the PS2.
If you are in one game like Halo 2 and I am in Forza. I can send you a game invite with VOICE message attached asking you if you want to join me. Pretty cool indeed. 👍 Thats why members in here list their x-box tag and they only have 1. Like mine is CAMAROBOY69 and its the same no matter what x-box game I play. Back when I played PS2 I had about 10 game tags. Thats not very convenient at all.

I have to wonder if this is because GT4 handles so much like previous GTs that you are just used to it and it feels right?

Becuase all reports from people who have driven the cars in forza in real life and in the game point to Forza being spot on. The few I have really driven (Impreza Sti, 350z, Proche etc) really do feel spot on in forza, and I actually think GT4 feels a little wrong (but a very little).

So are you sure it's really wrong and not just different?

And as for the guy who got angry about being slammed into walls and spun around, that is often what happens in a real car. The reason it doesn't happen as much in GT4 that GT4 doesn't account for the friction of a car hitting a wall and pulling you into it properly (this is the bumper car physics again). If your right fender makes contact with a wall, it will slow the right side of your car down a lot and essentially pull you into the wall. At this point you will probably break traction with the rear tires and go into a spin. After that it's all in how you handle it, but I always felt GT series was too forgiving on this allowing you to too easily point yourself right after a crash.

When you hit a wall with one side of your car it will almost pull you into it like a vacum, and the more you get pulled into it, the more of your car comes in contact with it, the more you get pulled in etc... In GT4 since your car never gets damaged, only one point ever touches the wall and so you kind of slide along it since neither the wall nor the car has any give in it's physical form.

Conversly I spent quite a few crashes pointing backwards but upon figuring out how and when to crank the wheel which way and how to accel/break out of the situation I can usually end up going in the right direction.

So I think actually when you hit a wall you SHOULD have the extra punishment thrown at you, because that is how it would be and should be... just not how you are used to it being.

You are definitely welcome to your opinion of what is better or what you like but I think this may be a case of mistaking familiar for right.

That pretty much sums everything right tup. People are so used to being able to bounce off a few walls in GT4 then they try it in Forza (I also did this) and they thing it is exaggerated and frustrating. Like you said Forza is very very real.
There are a few walls you can hit that dont cause too much damage but if you hit the walls that are lined with tires you are going to spin out for sure. I really like the realism and damage in Forza. It forces you not to hit other cars and not to hit the wall.
On a side note of more realism. If you run out of gas in Forza your car stops just like in real life. No magical fumes that keep your car going until you return to the pit stop.
Keep in mind im not knocking GT4 at all I still love that game. But Forza just has better physics and is a lot more realistic when your driving. The controversy wil go on for years between these 2 games. Each have their positive and negative highlights. They are still both incredible racing games and im proud to own them both. 👍
