I was just wondering, what's the fastest someone has gotten with the nissan gt-r proto LM car? I've got to 288 mph at one point, so im sure 300 is doable in it - with skills better than mine :P

It's been tried a lot of times, but nobody's ever done it. The aerodynamic qualities of a brick catch up with it very quickly when you get near to 300mph. It has a tendancy to wheelie, too. I'm pretty sure it's incapable, but I'd like to be proven wrong!
If the R34 can do it...

DE

The speed gain is marginal when you get to over ~265 mph, the needle suddenly moves a lot slower at around there, depending on gearing. ATM i'm trying it with different NOS setups and a way to keep it in the power band at that speed, but i think 300 should be possible.

I've also wondered about the Escudo, but it loses so much power if you're not revving in the extremely narrow power band...

It's a real balancing act with this car alright. It unhinges and picks up speed quite well until around 294 or so and flips up like a bad comb-over on a windy beach...:scared:

What I did find was that if you can take 7th out of play as much as you can it kinda takes bit off the whole wheelie problem, but that's where I got stuck on the whole 294.02 thing....👍

I have, and I got stuck at about 292. If you can throw this 1300KG 7 speed brick to 300, be my guest.

Just sayin' hey and congrats to a the new members!

If it weren't for the lack of ShadowDiabloS's video verification, we'd have a little competition near the top of the leaderboard. 👍

No new speeds on my half, sadly. Been too busy with the new ps3..... :sly: 👍

Ridge Racer 7 is not all it was cracked up to be.:yuck:

EDIT:

@ the GT-r prototype thing: I've hit 300 mph in that car, only via wheelie. I don't think it's possible otherwise, sadly.

And speaking of the new GT-r: I was reading a Road & Track mag whilst waiting at the barbershop, and I saw an article featuring it. It has something along the lines of 450bhp at all four wheels, being approx. 2800 lbs, and still rocking the ATESSA thing. And it was electric orange.....

very nice.

Back to 300 mph related schtuff!

Got to 289.46 on my last run..... It just loses speed so rapidly at a certain point, it's really strange.

So here we go...
My challenge for MasterStorm. Take your Mclaren & Ford GT to test track and beat my speeds.

BMW McLaren 309.06mph

Couple pics while going 305mph & 308mph

And Ford GT 302.77mph

And couple pics while going 302mph, Ford GT looks really sick but it's still on the ground.
Like I said before I can't make videos, so my speeds would be unverifed then. I think we just have to wait MasterStorm to beat them. Or is there any other solution ?

Are you sure that's a Ford GT, with no hybrid parts?

Do you have a MaxDrive or similar to send us a replay-file? Because Toronado tried the Ford GT, hard, and didn't manage...

I already have that same Ford GT on the leader board with a similar speed (but slightly slower), so it's definitely possible.

No need for a video verification with this one if you ask me. It's only required for class records, speeds over 350mph and speeds which seem suspicious. In this case, none of the above apply. Well done! 👍

And I got to 323.55 with my Toyota GT one -Race car-( without using NOS)

Is it OK when using Nitros ,cause I got about 359

Opendriver
I have, and I got stuck at about 292.
And in what way is this doing 300mph? :p
I said 'it's been tried a lot of times, but nobody's ever done it' - implying that a lot of people have tested it, but never achieved 300mph

Turn your camera's flash off , if it was on (looks like it was there) - this screws up the photos of the TV screen immensely, and it looks like you had it on then. Nice work, though :)

If, as an experienced driver, you reckon it's OK, then we're clear with that verification :)
Congratulations, Shadow!

Hi, shangoob, and welcome to the Club with a good starting speed :)
Did you read and follow all of the rules in Post #1?

DE

Thank you DE. And my flash was off lol i have a projection tv and it doesnt do good when taking pics with a camera.

I know this video not clear ,but that what I have, I dont have TV PCI
so I used my camera phone, sorry for bad resultion:indiff:
The video quality/resolution wasn't the problem...

...check the rules in the first post, particularly these two.

  • 2. At no point in your run must any of the car's wheels leave the ground. At no point in your run must your car make contact with any barrier, visible or invisible.
  • 4. You must not at any point in your top speed attempt travel backwards around the course.
So unfortunately, we cannot allow that run on the leader board. It also makes us suspicious that the other speeds you posted break the rules in a similar way. I'll give you props for using your initiative with the camera phone though, and for the standing 180 spin at the start. 👍

I hope this time I don't mess up like last time):banghead:

And if there any Break if rules please just PM me and I will remove it by my self

And special thanks to (MasterStorm :p)

Thank you, Thanks a lot.

Some comments about Ford GT.
Ok, how should I put this... I don't want to be labeled as some arrogant prick. (I have my problems with some cars, like Pagani Zonda, Dodge Viper & Nissan Skyline) But it was quite easy to push Ford GT over 300mph, took about 1 hour to do it and 2 days to brake record. Something just clicked with this car, I didn't use that much time for tranny/suspension tweaking. It was more finding correct driving line & nitrous timing. With my setup it was really important to get that curve right. Little mistake in the curve and you can forget 300mph.

I have tried also the newer version of Forg GT race car, the one with 960hp and 10kg lighter than old one. Problem is that, I just can't nail the curve right. I can nail it once out of 10 tries and that means I lose my patience quickly!

And about McLaren...
I had steady 308.40mph setup, so I tweaked little bit suspension settings and then took Mclaren to track. I knew that I need only to get one good run. First I got 308.83mph and then blasted 309.06mph. So I think that McLaren is capable to do 310mph in the future.

Sweet run indeed SD, nice

Something just clicked with this car,

I find this happens quite a bit, you load the car up take it out and get a great run, sometimes it just seems to hook-up other times it feels like there is a piano tied to it.

Thanks for dealing with that. Glad I've got guys to keep things in order when we get these busy spurts of activity! 👍

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - after a couple of runs you usually can tell how much work a car's going to ask of you. I thought the Skylines were asking a lot, until I eventually figured out their ways. Almost all of the cars are unique, so we keep learning :)

shangoob, I'm afraid I can't accept that video as verification for a speed that high. The quality is just too low - it's too difficult to see distinctly the wheels and the track, and the instability makes it hard to get a bearing on where things are. Sorry, but I can't allow that to go through. :indiff:

I've updated the Leaderboard database and file ready for uploading... The people running the server are going to receive a very strongly worded email before long...

Ok.

Ford GT LM Race Car '02 @ 303.15mph [screen] [video] [YouTube]
BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 @ 309.14mph [screen]

Took me about an hour to do them both. 👍

2 days? Almost makes me feel bad beating your challenge so quickly. Sorry! :guilty:

Don't worry about sounding arrogant, as it didn't come across that way. We're more interested in high speeds here rather than politics.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - after a couple of runs you usually can tell how much work a car's going to ask of you.
Sometimes initial impressions are not enough; I found a car yesterday which will only do around 270-280 or thereabouts with all the standard setup changes made and gearing tweaked to near optimum. However, I've found a way for this car to potentially break 300mph... it's just a matter of getting the run right (and I've hit 298.xx twice with bad gearing). If you thought racing line was import in cars that get the 'power shakes', then the line needed for this will blow you away.

Want a clue? It has unadjustable downforce... :)

I would have let that pass personally, from looking at the size/shape of the cars shadow as it hits about 360mph. DE's the adjudicator though, and his decision is the one that counts.

Let's have another new record too, just for fun!

Nissan 300ZX 2Seater (Z32) '98 @ 303.66mph [screen] [video] [YouTube]

After all my other high speed achievements, the Gran Turismo Federation allowed me to take a victory lap in the pace car...

...they only told me afterwards that I wasn't supposed to tune it!

Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R (PC) '01 @ 300.72mph [screen] [video] [YouTube]

I'm happy to finally push a car with unadjustable downforce over 300mph. I found some new tricks that meant I didn't have to take the bizarre racing line I mentioned earlier (which involved quick side to side flicks of the steering), and this allowed me to push the speed over 300mph.

I have no idea what the Skyline Squadron will say to this one... :nervous:

Good job  Masterstorm 👍 👍 for the last speeds

Yesterday i made a little miracle on TC ....
Let me some minutes to prepare the files

...for a new CAR in the leaderbord
