yes they do. and it's a matter of preferance really. The harder the tire compund (think rubber), the lower the overall grip level will be, but it will last longer. The softer the compund, the more grip it will have, but in turn it will also heat up much quicker and therfore burn up faster too.
Hard = Slow to warm up, less grip, long life
Med = nice inbetween the 2
Soft = Quick to warm up, and very short life
it's all about pit strategy. If you don't mind piting often, and you can drive good, then soft tires is a nice optoin. It will give you a nice lead from the rest of the pack (escept others using soft) just for the fact that you will have quicker acceleration and a higher top speed (very tiny difference there though). But on the downside, it also means alot of pits. If you go with hard tires, you will pit much less, but you will also have a slower car. So you will probably be in the middle/back of the pack for a few laps untill your tires warm up and/or the twits with soft tires have to pit. And don't be suprised if after they pit that they pass you up

but in the end, if it is a med to long race, the med to hard compunds are the best way to go. Unless you drive real fast, you will end up losing more time pitting then you will being slower. i hope that made sense 😈
