Apologies to everyone I hit, I am having major oversteer under braking still...

What brake balance are you running?

Take you car in a straight line and slam the brakes on. Watch the tire monitor, which tyres lock up first?

If it's your rears, decrease rear:front brake bias ratio, If it's your fronts, you're most likely turning while still holding too much brake, i.e. you're at threshold but the extra strain on the tyres from turning, tips it over the edge.

And wet weather is a complete unknown...

Also, I'd advise people test in the wet with no ABS. You have to massively adjust your braking. (Threshold is much lower) If people don't, the first corner will be a pileup.

👍

In fairness the Mazda is only 22kgs lighter :sly:. Yeah Cars fast in anything though, I never even looked at the Focus because well its ugly :p. I know the Fords stock diff is good though and that would be whats helping it no doubt.

I had the Ford running really fast in 4.1 pre-season but I think that was down to the 2 8 brake balance which I'm not going to even try without ABS.

Ford was very good - only reason I didnt select it was because the car understeered rather than the Honda which tends to oversteer 👍

Honda handles like a dream it was the first car I fell in love with on GT5, the fact it looks similar to the Chevy Cruze was a plus too :D.

According to what Furi said last night, and looking at the posts, it seems a VW/Honda season with the other cars fighting it out for the rest of the positions.

Yup some tracks the VW will be impossible to beat and some where the Honda will be out infront but not unbeatable. Thas my view anyway the Hondas advantage at some tracks is minimal compaired to the VWs advantage at HSR (Boring oval) or Le Sarthe with its huge straights.

The ford and the Mazda didn't look that far off.

Agreed 👍

I'm not suprised that no one is talking about the Volvo this season. It's fantastic off the line and not bad on smaller straights, apart from that I'm struggling with it.

I haven't really tested it yet. But it seems like it can cope with the big boys at the top if driven right.

I think for season 5 the scirocco should be swapped for the '06 Golf and the Honda should not get the weight break.

An even closer field would result

Test, test, test Matty, the Volvo needs it mate. I'm still struggling with understeer.

You say the VW will beat us at Le Sarthe but I was the fastest during that test and I had wrong gearbox, made a mistake and had the old spec setup - so the VW might not win so easily.

Also I think the VW has too much power or not enough weight. I know I have less torque and not the quickest straight line car but from the sounds of other guys not catching up when in the slipstream it does sound to be too fast

Pretty much all of us have said the VW has too much HP or too little weight, cant something be done before Saturday surely, even if its only a tiny bit?

Even though I benefited from it in S3, I dont wanna be 2 rounds in (in the BMW for S2) and then eventually have ballast added to the 'domminant' car.

That was against Furi though Andy, Sumo will show us the true pace of that VW and then you'll be worried.

I think a big problem in leveling all the cars is the different drivers with different ABS skill...
I think that is what is hurting some cars, making others look faster and some underrated. Really makes finding the limit, at least for me, much harder. Also, FF cars have very different braking tricks, I haven't seen anyone (I don't think) using them so if someone was to start "rally style" driving them it could really make a car faster.

Sorta the same with me Car but on 2/0 all the cars seemed to be fine with the occasional late brake lock up. Some were stable enough for 3/1 just to help with rear turning.

True - forgot how slow Furi is :sly:

Also why did you have the Scirocco in? Why didnt you use the Golf like they do in the real BTCC

Its 4wd may have contributed to not getting in.

Oh yeah doh! :dunce: Great idea Andy 👍.

No worries  It just seems to hit me when I went and looked at the VW garage. I think the Golf has less torque and equal ish weight so clearly it could be more even? Its way too late to get a car change Im guessing

Extra: Golf a bit lighter with Weight 1 reduction but with only window one its weighs 1326kg compared to weight reduction 1239kg

Yeah it's too late now because the Scirrocco drivers wouldn't have a chance to change to a different car I don't think. But a 20BHP penalty would probably take away most of it's straight line advantage, and it handles as good as the other cars apart from the Honda.

Sumo does worry me for pace. But we can only see how it goes... i'll also add a future plan - for S5 maybe success ballast will make an appearence.

I agree with this :p, it was depressing being alongside Furi and watching him drive away on the tiny straight. :scared:

No, it just penalizes drivers for winning, it's like putting boost on except it's over the course of a season.

Why wait when we can do it now? :p

Im not having or go or anything like that, it just seems common sense to me, especially after the fiasco of S3.

When I tested, VW was constent joint 3rd with Ford and Mazda. And slowest 0-60 and 0-100 as well.
